KaleidoKenlyn -> It's not THEIR job. It's yours. (6/30/2012 4:07:15 PM)

If you took my yearly salary and doubled it, I would still be considered "poverty." However, I still pay all of my bills by myself. I've fully furnished several homes since turning 18. I've traveled fairly well and fairly regularly. Never to Europe, but all over the States. I've never taken a handout from my friends, my family, or the government. In fact, when someone needs money, they have a tendency to come to me first. Mostly because, I'd rather have to eat Ramen for three months straight than see someone else lose their car or house or whatever.

It is because of this, that I have a HUGE problem with people who do nothing but complain. You complain about money. You complain about taxes. You complain about extra fees at the airport. You complain about rising gas prices. You complain about the cost of your insurance, your water bill, your groceries, hell you even complain about the price of a Big Mac! And somehow it is always the government's fault.

Sweetheart, the government isn't responsible for everything ya know. And they can't fix everything. Get your priorities in order, make a damned budget for yourself, stick to it, and, for the love of God, STOP COMPLAINING! If I can make half as much as the cap for "poverty" and still be doing alright, you can too.

It so happens that was meant specifically for YOU. No one else. It totally wasn't meant for the population as a whole. It was directed wholly and completely toward YOU. ^_^

The irony is, if he actually wanted someone to do it for him in reality, he'd probably have to pay.

Edited to add: Barring Kenlyn being handy (pun totally intended), apparently.

kalikshama, I love how my original post was about people who complain about things, and all you've done is post pictures of people holding signs, in which they are bitching.

erieangel -> RE: It's not THEIR job. It's yours. (6/30/2012 7:23:10 PM)

Kenlyn, I'm pretty much like you. I don't make much at all. But...

My house has no mortgage.

I just bought a new car (ok, I do have a loan for that)

No credit cards or other loans of any kind outstanding.

My property taxes, school taxes and all other tax bills are paid in full within 30 days after I get them.

My auto insurance is paid on an annual basis. (Sadly I don't have home owners insurance because I can't find a company willing to insure by somewhat rundown house until after I do certain upgrades--electrical being the major one)

When my hot water tank went this past week, I realized that I had saved over a grand in just three months. I bought a used tank with a 6 month warranty and got an estimate on upgrading my plumbing. By this time next year I should be able to replace both the plumbing and the wiring.

I didn't realize how much I had saved because my bills get paid, I live on $100 a week for gas, food, entertainment, etc., and when that is gone it is gone. I shop for clothes and shoes every 3 months and limit that spending to $100. Any other purchases, loans, or anything, I think long and hard about. In fact, I almost didn't buy the new car because I had enough to pay off the old used car I had purchased a few years ago and was thinking it would be nice to be out from under a car payment. But I was putting so much money into repairs that I wasn't saving anything and figured the factory warranty would save more than the extra few dollars a month in car payments would cost me.

A grand in 3 months--sounds like its working.

The only time I bitch about the government is when they give huge tax breaks to largest corporations and cut programs to schools, social services and programs for the truly needy. My tax dollars going to people in need in the form of welfare is fine. My tax dollars going to multinational corporations in the form of corporate welfare, not so much.

KaleidoKenlyn -> RE: It's not THEIR job. It's yours. (6/30/2012 7:30:02 PM)

You, my dear, are a gem. Kudos to you for being self sufficient and not a whiner.

I really can't complain about where "my tax dollars" go to.. Because I do get it all back every tax season. Well, almost all of it. I probably could get it all back, but I don't go out of my way to get every penny. I do my taxes every year in about 15 minutes via TaxAct. But yeah.. As I get almost all of it back, I really cant complain about what that gets spent on.

tazzygirl -> RE: It's not THEIR job. It's yours. (6/30/2012 7:46:44 PM)

Ah so you make enough to get all your taxes back... possibly a tiny bit extra with earned income...

I have furnished more than one house... www.freecycle.org is amazing

every car I have owned I paid cash for

I own no credit cards

I owe no loans.

Brave, strong words from a 22 year old. Never get sick.. never have cancer... never lose a job to downsizing.

You, my dear, and walking around with your holier-than-thou attitude.. never hit rock bottom through no fault of your own.

This is what everybody does (makes the budget for themselves) being bound by actual conditions and restrictions. You still need to complain and rebel. Otherwise, the crooks (the government corporate complex) rob you blind. The governments are totally out of line, broken.

erieangel -> RE: It's not THEIR job. It's yours. (6/30/2012 7:49:12 PM)

I do get every penny of my withholding back. But since I pay a slew of other taxes...

school, local, state, county, sales, etc., yeah, I'm gonna complain when I think my taxes are being used unwisely. And that complaint is going to culminate on election day when I vote against the people who voted for the spending plans I disagree with.

That would mean you're making less than $5,585/year.

Bullshit.
