OK. I know I'm going to get nailed for this. I don't have a question and this might not even be a discussion.

I am opening this subject about the difference between BDSM and leather. What is the difference, you might ask. Well, here is the place to bring your questions. I will answer them to the best of My ability. I'm not the end all, be all on this subject, but I will do My best.

What do you want to know about the difference between leather and BDSM?

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Coming for the slaughter (7/6/2012 9:36:44 PM)

You are a brave woman, my sister!

LadyPact -> RE: Coming for the slaughter (7/6/2012 9:38:57 PM)

Yours in Leather,

LP

Oooooooooo. I have

Why is BDSM in capital letters and leather is in small caps?

Too easy, Dear. It is because BDSM is an abbreviation and leather is a concept.

On a personal note, I met several folks from Edmonton recently. I've been meaning to send you an email.

I hope you will give My regards to your girls.

From my perspctive, I really couldn't give a shit about the semantics between leather and BDSM. I am more interested in why you are even asking the question.

ResidentSadist -> RE: Coming for the slaughter (7/6/2012 10:01:37 PM)

Awesome topic, glad you are at the helm.

I think some people are a little confused about the nuts & bolts of it. Where do you feel the leather community fits on the flow chart? Is it a parent of BDSM, a subset or does it stand alone on separate branch under the big kink umbrella?

LadyPact -> RE: Coming for the slaughter (7/6/2012 10:06:50 PM)

Because I would hope to educate. Because to a leather person, it obviously means more to Me than it does to you. If you don't give a shit, then you have already told Me about your perception.

I wish you well.

catize -> RE: Coming for the slaughter (7/6/2012 10:09:05 PM)

My starting questions are pretty basic.
If a person is interested in joining the leather folk, what would be the process?
Does one apply to join? I remember you saying one needs to be recommended by a leather member, but what would a person need to do to get that recommendation?
Does previous experience matter?
Would you address the protocols and what they mean?
I have more questions but will stop for now. Thanks for giving me a chance to ask!

At the helm? Oh God! That would scare the shit out of Me.

Frankly, most people don't know what the leather folks did to open up this world. They enjoy the benefits, but most don't know what it took to accomplish that.

On the flow chart, I feel we are four out of five on the B. I would prefer 7 out of 8 on the bell curve, but Meh.

FrostedFlake -> RE: Coming for the slaughter (7/6/2012 10:21:05 PM)

Thank you, Lady Pact. I have occasionally wondered if my cycle jacket is kinky. Is there some way I could find out?

Thanks again.

These days, it is terribly easy.
Go to any leather fest. People will welcome you.

We will be more than happy to teach you our ways.

If you walk into a leather event, and feel it in your blood, we will do everything we can to help you understand our mindset.

Come. Attend one event. If this is not for you, we will wish you well.

However, if you feel the spirit of leather, we will try to help you tap into that.

I am not in the mood for you to be a tool on My thread. Go fuck off somewhere else.

DarkSteven -> RE: Coming for the slaughter (7/6/2012 10:38:16 PM)

I don't know squat about the leather scene. So my question is, is there a website which you'd recommend that explains the basics?

If I had my druthers, I would rather see Leather capitalized when talking about the concept as opposed to the material but viva la difference! [;)]

What has surprised you most about Leather protocols? Were some of the protocols harder for you to accept than others? If so, how did you overcome any difficulties? How would you recommend others overcome struggles either during an apprenticeship or afterwards? How has Leather and being involved in Leather enhanced your life? Specifically, what has Leather given to you as an individual that you might not have discovered in some other way?

Websites? No. I'm kind of old for that.

I would suggest, however, "The Leatherman's Handook". Believe it or not, it's still in print.

DeviantlyD -> RE: Coming for the slaughter (7/7/2012 12:30:14 AM)

I am far from an expert on anything but me. ;)

But I have met some leather folks...my impression is that leather is more structured, formal, with protocol...while BDSM can have that, it doesn't have to be and oftentimes isn't.

Would you say that is a fair generalisation?

Kana -> RE: Coming for the slaughter (7/7/2012 12:30:49 AM)

This is one of those little questions with lots of depth...and no, I'm not kidding, I'm really serious....

"Why leather?"

Why, Kana? Because I was home. Because I felt with every fiber of My being that it was where I belonged.

My heart and soul yearned for it. I knew it was where I was supposed to be.

There was something. In the material, in the fabric, even the smell in the air that I knew I was supposed to be.

This called Me.
