heights.

cicadas (there are some around work right now, ICK ICK ICK!!!)

spiders that startle me (I'm ok, as long as I know they're there, but if one startles me... *shudder*. Once I had been working as a stagehand in Atlanta, got home and went to take a shower. turned on the water, got nekkid, pulled the curtain back and had my leg over the edge of the tub before I saw the BIG FAT HAIRY SPIDER in the tub! I levitated across the room, shrieking )

heights.

I used to be terrified of heights once, then I got talked into climbing. It was going well, just focused on the next bit to grab onto before I knew it I was at the top. That's when things rapidly deteriorated!
Had to look down, was about 50 feet off the ground, and let go so that the guy belaying me could lower me down. However, he managed to drop the rope. I fell most of the way down, banging my back off the wall before I managed to grab a old of something about 3/4 of the way down. Never have I screamed so loud in my life.

But on the plus side, heights are not so much of an issue now lol :)

What does scare the life out of me though is glitter. Don't know what it is about it, I think just the way it sticks to you and you can't get it off. Oh I've goosebumps thinking about it. urgh!

GreedyTop -> RE: What Are You Afraid Of? (7/11/2012 4:05:16 AM)

so, no pink glitter combat boots for you? LOL

I like rapelling (I think I spelled that right) as long as it's from a made made structure (when I was working as a stagehand, rapelling from the catwalks to the floor was AWESOME!!!), but I don't think I could ever do it off a cliff.

the first time was rough though... I had someone holding my hand as I was first going over the edge. took 20 minutes or so before I could allow myself to start dropping...

pyschosubmission -> RE: What Are You Afraid Of? (7/11/2012 4:11:55 AM)

ohjesuschristwhywouldyousaythat?!?!

lol

AWww sweet I would love to do that! Singing the James Bond theme in my head while I dropped down

I just saw a guy on a tv show jump off a low cliff into the beautiful clear ocean.

I am terrified of jumping into water.

How about you?

2 things:
1- you.
2- the maya thing about 2012.

Dearest Ash, even though we hate one another I am going to help you with one of your fears. Per the Mayan Calendar and 2012. Realistically, that date has already passed. We are still here.

There was no such thing as a leap year when the Mayan calendar was created.

pyschosubmission -> RE: What Are You Afraid Of? (7/11/2012 7:47:18 AM)

and I was all set up for an apocalyptic fun time too.

Damn!

I was thinking about this, trying to think of things that really terrify me.

Now, there are things that are kind of ick, or 'only if I absolutely have to'. There are things that are scary, but I might do anyway, if common sense said it would be okay. Just to push myself past a fear. I am weird like that, I like goading myself past comfort levels. The idea of jumping out of a plane is scary as hell, but given the opportunity, I'd do it for sure.

The things that actually really terrify me are not concrete. More than anything, I think I am just terrified of running out of time.

kitkat105 -> RE: What Are You Afraid Of? (7/11/2012 11:25:02 AM)

I'm a total scaredy Kat. Pun intended. Grab a cup of coffee.

Falling from a height. I think this relates to having terrible depth perception and having night terrors as a child where I was falling. I particularly dislike those glass balustrades at malls.

Water over my face. I can only just handle the shower or jumping into a pool. Refuse (can't) swim under water.

Any creepy crawly that can bite or sting. Whether it's a bee or a jellyfish.

And in my spare time, I am a high-functioning agoraphobic. So open places & social settings can induce epic panic attacks.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: What Are You Afraid Of? (7/11/2012 11:43:27 AM)

When I could go underwater I was a fabulous underwater swimmer. Now I am better at bobbing like a cork! I love jumping and that falling through space feeling...

My mom is the bravest person in the world, I have to live up to her example, so yes, much pushing-past. I could absolutely jump off a cliff into water if I had to. Or dive, it's not like I didn't LEARN HOW.

Actually I like doing things that frighten me. I feel like I'm becoming too old too quickly, and it keeps me alert.

kitkat105 -> RE: What Are You Afraid Of? (7/11/2012 11:46:00 AM)

Oh, I agree. There is most certainly good fear and bad fear. As cliche as it might be, as a newbie, pushing through those boundaries has happened a lot in the last 8 months.

GreedyTop -> RE: What Are You Afraid Of? (7/11/2012 11:47:18 AM)

PS, darling.. just for you:

Hillwilliam -> RE: What Are You Afraid Of? (7/11/2012 11:56:08 AM)

I used to be afraid of heights so I took up skydiving. Big hairy spiders. yuk. Lil ones are really cute tho and if I'm really drunk, I can let a tarantula crawl on me. Skinnydipping at night. (dangly bits, meet big predatory fish n turtles) Night diving is fun tho cause you're wearing something.
Losing my mind (dementia)

pyschosubmission -> RE: What Are You Afraid Of? (7/11/2012 12:01:26 PM)

well where should I post them?

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: What Are You Afraid Of? (7/11/2012 12:05:20 PM)

Using FR:

Heights, spiders, rodents, dementia (good call Hilly, your'e not *just* a big white cock).

Growing up, my kids of course knew I feared rodents, and took great glee in hiding fake rodents in places where I would find them. The hysterical laughter as I startled and jumped away let me know I birthed two at least partial sadists !! Either that or kids with a sick sense of humor. (Now where'd they get that from?)

Forgot to add, first time I met Himself's niece and nephew, I handled the pet rat and let it crawl on me. They decided I was "way cool."

I surprised myself on that one. No, I'd never have a pet rat, it was one of the few pet restrictions in our house. Well of course, except for the live mice that had to be fed to the snake.

How about snakes? I love them, but many people fear them.

GreedyTop -> RE: What Are You Afraid Of? (7/11/2012 12:08:00 PM)

PS, you could make a kilts thread, or just email them to me ;)

LaTigresse -> RE: What Are You Afraid Of? (7/11/2012 12:11:02 PM)

I know my daughter has a small sadistic streak and my utterly sick sense of humour.

My son in law has a thing about bugs. My daughter, his loving wife, bought these totally realistic plastic cockroaches. Every now and then, when he least expects it, she leaves one where it is bound to scare the shit out of him.

I am not afraid of snakes.........my boss is. I love realistic looking rubber snakes........[:D]

GreedyTop -> RE: What Are You Afraid Of? (7/11/2012 12:11:51 PM)
