Owner59 -> NAACP Boos Mitt Romney (7/11/2012 12:03:56 PM)

"Mitt Romney spoke to the NAACP conference on Wednesday in an attempt to convince African-American voters to vote Republican in November. Unfortunately for Romney, the majority of African-Americans support President Obama.

After Mitt ‘The Flipper’ declared his intention to cut any and every program he deems “non-essential,” which in Romney-speak means every program that helps the middle class and the poor, Romney yet again promised to repeal the Affordable Care Act. The NAACP audience wasn’t thrilled by Romney’s plan to kill President Obama’s signature achievement and roundly booed Mitt for 15 seconds. Mitt forced a smile and then claimed that Obamacare kills jobs.

ROMNEY: “I’m going to eliminate every non-essential, expensive program I can find, that includes Obamacare, and I’m going to work to reform and save…”

[BOOS]

"The fact is, the US Chamber and Mitt Romney represent corporate interests. They have zero interest in the small business community, which is where the majority of jobs are created. According to Romney, businesses supposedly don’t support Obamacare because it will cause them to not hire workers. But that’s not true. The majority of small businesses actually support the new health care law. A new study recently revealed that over 50% of small businesses support the Affordable Care Act and that percentage rises for individual provisions in the bill. Only one-third of small businesses oppose the law.

Contrary to what the US Chamber and Mitt Romney claim, Obamacare actually benefits small businesses because of various exemptions and tax credits that will save small businesses money in the long run, especially after the law is fully implemented in 2014. Such money could be used to pay higher wages or expanding which means hiring more people. And that’s a great thing for the American economy, but it’s a bad thing if you are Mitt Romney or a conservative corporation supporting organization like the US Chamber that opposes President Obama no matter what.

Mitt Romney’s obsession with repealing Obamacare is strengthening the perception that he is a hypocrite. Keep in mind that Obamacare is modeled directly on Romneycare, the health care law Mitt Romney instituted in Massachusetts as Governor."

My esteem for Mitt grew a millimeter or two that he would stand up there and fire that shot.

I still think Mitt is all about Mitt, not what he could do for (or more likey, to) the country.

mnottertail -> RE: NAACP Boos Mitt Romney (7/11/2012 12:18:17 PM)

Well, he's been ducking everywhere else, I imagine some of his handlers forced him to go there.

joether -> RE: NAACP Boos Mitt Romney (7/11/2012 12:30:40 PM)

'Non-essential' stuff? Why should we the taxpayer pay for Mitt Romney's secret service protection? He's rich enough to afford his own bodyguards. Yes I know its a law. But still, in light of his comments, is he paying the secret service what it really costs to give him proper protection? I doubt it. Why should a rich 1%'er pay when he has the middle and poor classes to do it for him?

Isnt there alot of blacks in the middle and poor classes in our country? (not to mention every other skin color....including white)

Moonhead -> RE: NAACP Boos Mitt Romney (7/11/2012 12:55:20 PM)

It'd be interesting to know what proportion of the "1%" are black, now you mention that. There's quite a few successful entertainers, obviously, but any CEOs (or CEOs turned politicos) of comparable status to Romney? All that springs to mind is that oaf Herman Cain...

servantforuse -> RE: NAACP Boos Mitt Romney (7/11/2012 12:58:07 PM)

If he doesn't show up at that convention they would say he is disrespecting them by not coming. So he goes and they disrespect him.

hlen5 -> RE: NAACP Boos Mitt Romney (7/11/2012 1:07:32 PM)

I don't think that was disrespect, they didn't drown him out, they let him keep speaking and they kept listening to what he had to say.

It's not as if he was giving the State of the Union address in the full Congress and someone shouted, "You Lie!!".

JanahX -> RE: NAACP Boos Mitt Romney (7/11/2012 1:08:23 PM)

Houston doesnt like him. They applauded the loudest when he left the stage.

Google is your friend.

Blacks comprise 13.6 percent of the U.S. population according to the 2010 Census, but account for only 1.4 percent of the top 1 percent of households by income. Whites are the overwhelming majority of the top 1 percent of households by income, comprising 96.2 percent. (Results were calculated from 2007 data from the Federal Reserve’s Survey of Consumer Finances and the Tax Policy Center’s tax table, The income cutoff to be a part of the top 1 percent was $646,195.)

“The income gap between black and white 1 percenters is much smaller than [the gap between] blacks and whites in the 99 percenters,” according to William Rodgers, Professor of Public Policy at Rutgers University and former Chief Economist at the Labor Department. “The chasm still exists in assets among the top 1 percent,”

While you're playing with google, try looking up: "rhetorical question".

servantforuse -> RE: NAACP Boos Mitt Romney (7/11/2012 1:44:38 PM)

That wasn't being disrespectful ? On a side note, if I were an NAACP member I would be pissed that the first black president dissed their group.

Musicmystery -> RE: NAACP Boos Mitt Romney (7/11/2012 1:45:45 PM)

Don't be silly. That would be racist.

And I know how you hate racist groups.

servantforuse -> RE: NAACP Boos Mitt Romney (7/11/2012 1:49:40 PM)

You are right, I do.

Heard that exact same N double A C L P on Rush this morning. I had missed what the L was for. Thank you

subspaceseven -> RE: NAACP Boos Mitt Romney (7/11/2012 2:01:22 PM)

they udibly laughed when he suggested he would be a better president than Obama for the African-American community. Also notable was what was left unsaid. Romney failed to address voting rights, which is a major theme of this NAACP gathering

So maybe unlike you they listened to what he had to say and did not fall for the same BS the GOP party is falling for with him...

Hell he is even losing the support of woman in Texas, as they are opposing all the anti abortion BS and the GOP taking away women's right protected under law
