First time poster. I cannot imagine facing this horror. Fortunately I've never had to. I don't really know if I'm on the gun control side or the guns for everyone side. I know I've never heard of a tradgedy such as this at a, say, shooting range. So it must not be the proliference of guns in our society that makes these senseless crimes. Guns have been around for centuries but only the past 20-30 years have we seen such horrific tragedies. Mental breakdown of some sort? Certainly. If I was the defense attorney for this individual, I would stand up and say, he walked into a theatre and blew away 12 souls and tried to blow away another 50 or so, and I would sit down and say "the defense rests. Anyone who would even think of doing this kind of thing is surely insane." Why has this kind of violence arisen in these last 25-30 years? Seems most who perpetrate these attacks are teens and early 20's. Is it because the ability to grasp consequences of one's actons doesn't fully develop in humans until around age 25?. Also seems that those who perpetrate these crimes have some level of intelligence. From what I've read all who have gone on these killing sprees are "loners." Maybe curtailing access to guns would reduce the possibility of these horrendous events from happening. Perhaps access to guns should be limited to those over age 25. There is enough research on human brain development to know that the frontal cortex, which is the area of the brain that holds the keys to action consequences, is the last to develop fully. Who/What IS to blame? Video games featuring shoot-em-up themes? Movie and television violence? Lack of parental bonding, or lack of self discipline? All probably play some role but most who play violent video games do not kill in real life. Most who watch violent movies and television do not kill. Where are the answers? Senseless is after all ..... senseless. I have no desire to take the right to bear arms away from the citizenry. The second amendment to the constitution of the United States of America was put in place to protect the citizenry from it's own government, as well as as any threat to the home and/or family. It has become so twisted now though. On the other side it is righfully argued that guns do not kill people, people with guns kill people. I've never heard of a gun going on a killing spree all by it's self. This is a serious conundrum. Weapons policies only keep law abiding citizens in check, not criminals. People who are much smarter than I can't figure out how to stop this. There are now 350 million people in America. The number of "killers' in this sence of the term can be counted on hands and toes. Is it societal? NO. It is individual. It IS sad that one individual can cause so much destruction. I find some solace though, as a believer in Heaven, that those who were murdered are in a better place. My heart just aches uncontrollably that these kinds of things happen, with seemingly greater and greater frequency. I have no answers, I just had to comment. Thank you for reading.
