Pfft.....as I said many posts ago,I will post according to my conscious ,and TOS,giving a shit about your opinion doesn't enter into the discussion.
For instance it would probably be a violation of TOS were I to tell you just what you can do with your opinions at this point.....so I won't do so.

Hunting is almost a given here. Yet no one here hunts with automatic weapons. Many hunt with bows.

The deer just aren't that tough. Even the bear hunters manage OK.

This is not the politics forum. Keep politics and political issues out of this thread.

On the one hand, it was a political decision - or rather many of them - that led to the widespread availability of such armaments across the USA, therefore the ability of this psycho to do what he did. On the other hand, it will take a community decision regarding policy of *some* kind or another (whether that be focused on gun laws or not) to help prevent such slaughters in the future. That will unavoidably involve politics.

There's also the point - and perhaps the most crucial one - that one of the neatest tricks of any conservative force in politics is to re-define a matter as somehow 'beyond politics'. Gun-fans seem to have done that very well in the USA, from what I can see. So even to argue that this matter 'is not about politics' is itself to make a *very* strong political point.

In short, the subject of this thread is unavoidably steeped in politics, I'm afraid. If no politics are involved, it'll be about not much more than hand-wringing, which the nearest and dearest of those killed or injured almost certainly won't know about nor care about if they did know.

Well, whatever, I'm happy to put my boot in elsewhere. [;)]

A post more on point than any I have read from the self appointed guardians of prudence that abound on these pages.

Tell me, then -- why do we have laws at all?

We then enforce the laws.

After all, only criminals speed, only criminals steal, only criminals abuse others, only criminals drive drunk, but they don't follow laws, so tell me how having laws against these things helps?

We have laws as a crutch for sociopaths and narcissists and other folk that are born without a conscience to give them an innate morality. It provides them with boundaries and direction and enables them to lead a somewhat constructive life. Most of them keep to the law/religion. Some of them, though, cross over and decide to not follow the law, but to do whatever they want, and then begin destructive, criminal lives.

He followed the law, his guns were registered, legally , he got his ammo thru an online store, he wasnt a "criminal"...by which I mean, he didnt have an arrest sheet, he had a speeding/parking ticket...., ...until thursday night..Bit late then

"United States". Fifty sets of gun laws, pick your poison.[&o]

And that's why we have law enforcement.

Even more selction, delightful!

ModTwentyOne -> RE: 12 killed, 50 wounded at screening of Batman movie (7/21/2012 12:14:13 PM)

People can surely express their opinion about the incident and loss of life without bringing politics into it. At least, some people can. Others, obviously, cannot. We're done here.
