I closed the other discussion on this topic in this forum because the participants refused to keep the political discussion in the similar thread found in the Politics Forum.

We're going to try again. This thread is to discuss the incident - to share reactions, to grieve, to have an outlet for emotions. Someone may add a news article and appropriate link if they wish.

There will be zero tolerance of politics in this thread. If politics enters this thread, moderations will be administered. If you have never been moderated, your moderation will be one week; otherwise, it will be double your previous moderation.

OK. I can do this.

(I appreciate your grace.)

Already too soon, it reminds Me of Columbine.

The expression, "The gnashing of teeth" really does happen.

I do really think that people should put their political bullshit aside and let families bury their dead.

The parents.... The siblings....Let them bury their dead.

I'll debate with you sixteen ways to Sunday about circumstance. But not yet.

This thread is for grief.

Give your condolences here for the lost.

Tomorrow will we bicker about bullshit.

But not today.

Today we will mourn for families.

What say you?

It's weird. It's abstract for everyone else. Here in Colorado, we're kind of dazed. The theater is maybe 10 miles from where I live.

Lots of us kinksters checked in with each other right after. I don't know anyone who was shot. But it still feels too... close.

I know one Dom whose sub was going to a movie theater in Aurora for the midnight screening. Her phone ran out of juice and just died. He was frantic, not knowing that she'd gone to a different theater and was blissfully unaware.

Without going over any old ground, I'm wondering at this time about the apartment. What was the point of setting all the elaborate booby traps, if he blurted out to the cops that his apartment was rigged?

Sorry, Rich, there WAS no point. You're asking what his motivation was, and the easy answer is that he's batshit crazy.

Certainly crazy, Steve, but this was entirely too planned to meet the batshit standard.

Not only did I live In Tucson but I worked where Rep. Giffords was shot... the effect to a community when such a tragedy happens cannot be explained, properly expressed. Not knowing anyone involved, you still have a sense of loss, disbelief.

I send out positive thoughts to those effected by this absurd act... none of us can know your suffering of grief.

People in CO appreciate this grief.

I was on the other end. All of the people whose phone didnt'die. One of My worst days in My entire life.

I feel for these people. Pretty much in the way that most don't.

I shouldn't have asked for this thread. I just wanted the families to have 24 hours before somebody tried to shove agedends down their throats.

This thresd is about grief. Feelings. The chance for people to cry about the waste of life.

I know My intent is futile. I had to ask f0r it anyway;.

I strongly disagree, as you know, LP. It isn't 'political bullshit'. What I say is that it is only by means of politics that this kind of atrocity will ever find a solution. And the argument about it has to happen straight away, not after the emotions have dissipated. Clearly, I have a lot more respect for the potential of politics than a lot of people.

That registered, I won't be adding to this thread.

Forgive me if this has already been discussed…Does it strike anyone else as strange that it seems to have taken 20 minutes or more before police showed up on the scene? I would think within minutes of the start of the mayhem people were dialing 911 on their phones?

Here in my town response is always less then 5 minutes anywhere in town. I am not criticizing just wondering. I may have the facts wrong and there may be good reasons for the response time.

No politics, peon! This thread is to cry for the lost!

Is it so hard to give them a day?

I may have figured out why. See post 94 in the Political Implications of the Colorado Shootings? thread.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but from some partial info I heard on the news...

I think he had set some music in his apartment to turn on automatically and be very loud so as to draw the police and have them burst in, setting off the traps.  Something happened and it didn't work, but it was supposed to have happened just a few minutes before his rampage so as to draw the police away from the theater.  When he mentioned it to the police he was gloating and didn't realize that his trap had not worked and that he had just warned the police of the trap instead.

As I said, I'm not real sure about it, but that is kind of what I understood to have been the situation.

AND I believe there are two threads in Politics and Religion addressing the political side.

The problem, LadyP, is that all people don't just set everything aside to sit and cry. They reach for answers, and solutions, and ideas so that something like this can never, ever, happen again. They try to imagine that they would have been able to do something different, if they had been there.

This too is part of the grieving process.

I have already shed a few tears today reading in particular about a young lady who was 25, had a 6 year child and just got accepted into med school. She's in a critical condition due to be shot in the neck, the doctors think she MAY get some use of her hands back.

Reading about these young people who have had their lives cut short really breaks my heart.

That's just way too coldblooded.

This will always happen... it always has. Again, the point was to recognize the grieving, to derail this thread and to claim it is part of your "grieving process" is just selfish and immature. I know nobody involved with the current situation... but I have known people involved with the Tucson shooting, I had friends, co-workers who were trying to aid those shot and injured before the first responders were on scene... I saw how they suffered, grieved, felt guilty after the fact. So I can empathize... I think all this was, was an attempt to allow people to feel, empathize, reach out.

I think it was an honorable attempt... to allow people to communicate, to feel, to recognize the common mortal coil we all experience.
