I like all animals, even though I've been bitten by a wide variety of them, so it's almost inevitable that I would vote both here.

Why do I like dogs? Well there was a time when I was homeless and in the middle of the night a dog came barking into the churchyard where some of us were skippering (i.e. sleeping rough). It grabbed the sleeve of a coat of a guy and started tugging at it, hard. The guy had to get up and trying to fight the dog off he ended up swinging it round but the dog didn't give up and tugged and barked until some of us followed it to its owner, who was having a major asthma attack.

This is what I admire most in dogs, their tenacity, loyalty and their compassion.

But I admit that cats have a slight edge. I'm getting close to adopting another cat, now more confident that my circumstances are more stable. I lost two cats in Warsaw and even today I miss them. Cats to me are the ideal animal for survival through evolution, they have claws, they have teeth, they have sharp minds, they are psychic, and they are funny.

I love cats, always have and always will. My current feline is Ruby. She's a 3 year old black tortishell classic tabby Maine Coon. She is honestly my baby and helped me get through quite a few rough spots in the last 3 years.

However, I do like dogs, have owned dogs as well. But I'm a bit more particular about them.. don't like dogs that are too big or misbehave (due to lack of training).

Allergic to almost all cats. The step daughter's Himalayan however is welcome here any time. Don't know if it's the breed or her though.

But I'm a dog person. Always have been. Dogs and horses. Golden retrievers and quarter horses.

My kids want a new dog but I'm not over the loss of the last one. And not sure if i can handle losing another.

I want a cat, but I doubt that will happen. We have three dogs here, and a snake, and two hamsters. I think a cat will fit in nicely. But I am definitely a god person.

Dog person here. Period.
My parents got a 6 week old Shepherd pup when I was 8 weeks old. I was an only child and one or the other of them was almost always off with the other one putting them thru college. I probably learned to speak 'dog' before I learned to speak human.

Probably why my motto over the years has frequently been "If you cant eat it or fuck it, piss on it"
I learned that from my dog.

I love both. I used to be strictly a dog person and never paid attention to cats. Then I moved to an apartment where no dogs were allowed and I really wanted a pet so I thought I'd try a cat.

Enter Viktor Petrovsky. He acts like a dog. Coolest cat in town. Greets me at the door, sleeps at the foot of my bed, sits on or near my lap and watches TV with me, constantly interacting. First real love of my life.

(Edit - I think I added picture wrong, trying again)

All my adult life I was a cat person until R brought home the Baby, who sadly died young of cancer.

Aren't they the best? There isn't anything more comforting that a big headbutt and purry smooch from a Coon.
