Blackwater employs four or five times the troops the US Military does in fact

So Romney CAN compare military pay to the civilian counterpart.

No

Blackwater is more rent-a-cop than superpower military force

Don't you think

Moonhead -> RE: Military cuts (7/30/2012 8:40:11 AM)

If they're doing a superpower's military work for it because the superpower in question is too cheap to increase its military spending instead of hiring out to contractors, then that isn't much of a distinction. They're technically a uniformed force serving your country's national interests in Iraq, even if they can't be arsed to act like it...

Sanity -> RE: Military cuts (7/30/2012 8:41:46 AM)

You don't understand how capitalism works because under that scenario ("wild ass guess") recruitment rates would suffer

Youve proven to yourself that this is a lie, and yet you persist in it?

Why... ?

You are right... the businesses associated with the military wont feel a single cut... the men and women will.... under this proposal.

What I am thinking is that as always in the country with such great values, the defense industry will suffer cuts in low-level employees so as to always...always protect the return on capital for investors.

Sanity -> RE: Military cuts (7/30/2012 8:50:08 AM)

And another here on the far left constantly rants in favor of huge military cuts... But that's okay, nary a word is heard about that from the resident smear Romney committee

So we have one lefty here that claims Romney would be worse than Bush as far as military spending and conflicts, and another who believes the Obama spokesman when he spins a Romney statement about adjusting the compensation of federal employees to match the private sector to cutting military spending.[8|]

And you guys wonder why the majority of America doesn't buy into this shit?

What happened to you guys, I thought you were all about fairness and shit. You should be embracing Romney and his plan to make everything "fair", isn't that what you want?

"The rich need to pay their fair share" and all that? How about federal employees, shouldn't they have to pay their fair share too?

And since when is a soldier compared to a civilian public sector employee? Does a soldier get three weeks of paid vacation, holidays and weekends off? Do they get to go home tho their families every night, or make overtime pay?

Are they allowed to speak out against the President?

Did the President's staff have to go through boot camp? How about that clerk filing papers in the basement of the federal building in Bumfuck Nebraska, did they have to deploy out of country, and fight a war to earn their compensation package?

Make up our minds, on one hand you're screaming to know Romney's "plan" and in the other hand your whining about Romney's unannounced plan. Which is it, do you know the "plan" or don't you?

the idea isn't the cut by itself, like any cut and gut is worthwhile.

They could dump at least half the brass, it is awful topheavy for no reason.

Among other things.

employees' pay could soon hit the presidential campaign.

Mitt Romney's spending plan includes a pledge to "align federal employee compensation with the private sector," and it cites studies showing that "federal compensation exceeds private sector levels by as much as 30 to 40 percent when benefits are taken into account. This must be corrected."

As far as President Obama's campaign is concerned, that means Romney is talking about a federal pay cut of up to 40%.

"To pay for tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires, (Romney) drastically cuts pay for the men and women who secure our borders and skies, enforce our laws, inspect our food and search for better treatments and cures," said Obama spokesman Adam Fetcher.

Obama's debt reduction plan, he said, "requires federal workers to do their part through eliminating wasteful spending, streamlining government and freezing federal pay for the past two years."

Romney aides and supporters said they are not proposing a 30% to 40% pay cut, and federal compensation involved more than take-home pay, including such benefits as health coverage, retirement, paid leave and student loan repayments. According to the Romney plan, aligning federal compensation with the private sector will save $47 billion.

Really? Is this the route we want to go now? Is Romney and his precious buddies pockets more dear to them than the men and women fighting in the trenches?

The more I hear about this, the sicker I get.

Complain all you want about military and other govt. pay but...you're paying for it.

Yeah, I'm in agreement, military, police, fire...all should get paid a healthy salary....but more than "90% of similarly trained/educated non govt. citizens"?

I don't buy it.

You understand that government sucks money out of the economy, that its a net leech? a drain on the private sector, which is the only thing that keeps government going?

A leech, huh? interesting image. I'm guessing it owes more to talk radio than economic analysis, though. It seems to me the government aids the economy in three ways: (a) direct expenditure (lots of private-sector folks make their livings selling rockets or computers or paint to Uncle Sam), (b) creation of physical and societal/legal infrastructure that smoothes the path of commerce (roads, patents, etc.), and (c) indirect expenditure through the consumer spending of governmental employees and contractors.

Why should bureaucrats, public servants, be paid like royalty...

Dwelling where I do, I know a fair number of federal employees, none of whom comes anywhere close to living like royalty.

When I go to a hospital to work, I dont go with a gun strapped to my back... I dont go with the potential of being called up into service to enter into a war zone... I dont go with the training of both a nurse and a soldier...

I think they are well paid for the risks they take and I have no issue with that.

tazzygirl -> RE: Military cuts (7/30/2012 10:53:06 PM)

Because someone has to feel sorry for him from time to time.

slvemike4u -> RE: Military cuts (7/30/2012 11:41:33 PM)

Where is that written ?
Are we to feel sorry for everyone guilty of self inflicted ignorance,or simply sanity ?
