Sanity -> RE: Military cuts (8/1/2012 5:53:13 AM)

White House press secretary Jay Carney said he was unaware about defense cuts that will close an Air Force base in Ohio--where President Obama will be landing tomorrow aboard Air Force One. Here's the video, from the White House press briefing:

Yes, I am sure the white house press secretary is invited into the joint chiefs meetings with the Secy of defense and army.

Oh, no wait a minute----its teabagger lies and right wing leaning media.....as usual, without a fact.

And in Mansfield the local paper is reporting if President Obama has his way his Air Force One arrival would be one of the final flights into the Mansfield airport, because the president wants to do away with the mission for the 800 guardsmen at the Mansfield.

( from the article)

Yes, absolutely

Fuck those families, fuck the spirit of the law, the Obama campaign has a campaign to win and heres a possible loophole.

(We dont have a president, we have a campaign)

Hope and change, hope and change

Yes we can

Change we can believe in, rah rah rah

The view is correct and legal from the administration, you will not know 60 days before the sequestration deadline (remember why our credit is downgraded) that it will in fact happen, you should not send out lay off notices due to rightwing teabagging neo-conmen hysteria and ineptitude, there may yet be a chance for the realistic view to prevail.

If not, it isn't going to be Obama that will suffer, it will be the teabaggers.

Try to think realistically about this.

mnottertail -> RE: Military cuts (8/1/2012 6:27:27 AM)

We want smaller government.  We are getting it under Obama, he cannot sign legislation and making law that doesn't exist, if the teabaggers down in the house are to inept to make good passable legislation and the perfect storm comes (which has been talked about for nearly two years, this thing) then it falls directly on thier misguided and ignorant ideology.  I can see that you are frustrated that we are not going to borrow and spend and give away our blood and treasure to corporations at every turn.

Thats what happens in this country when you are a very small minority.

And a loophole that isn't illegal, like the one that your chimp used to steal the 2000 election from the candidate who received the most votes in Florida.

Do private employees get as many days off as federal?

Do private employees get as many paid vacation days as federal?

Do private employees get as much in hazard pay? In health benefits? In relocation? In housing?

Come on, think, you are smarter than this.

Military personnel don't deserve more benefits than private employees?

Hell yes they do... which is why the idea that Romney wants to cut those is pissing me off. How about you?

employees' pay could soon hit the presidential campaign.

Mitt Romney's spending plan includes a pledge to "align federal employee compensation with the private sector," and it cites studies showing that "federal compensation exceeds private sector levels by as much as 30 to 40 percent when benefits are taken into account. This must be corrected."

As far as President Obama's campaign is concerned, that means Romney is talking about a federal pay cut of up to 40%.

"To pay for tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires, (Romney) drastically cuts pay for the men and women who secure our borders and skies, enforce our laws, inspect our food and search for better treatments and cures," said Obama spokesman Adam Fetcher.

Obama's debt reduction plan, he said, "requires federal workers to do their part through eliminating wasteful spending, streamlining government and freezing federal pay for the past two years."

Romney aides and supporters said they are not proposing a 30% to 40% pay cut, and federal compensation involved more than take-home pay, including such benefits as health coverage, retirement, paid leave and student loan repayments. According to the Romney plan, aligning federal compensation with the private sector will save $47 billion.

Really? Is this the route we want to go now? Is Romney and his precious buddies pockets more dear to them than the men and women fighting in the trenches?

The more I hear about this, the sicker I get.

Now there's a guy who's talking my language!

Are you aware of something called the Davis Bacon Act?

It's a federal law that states that when federal or state money is involved in a project (typically, road projects, but as often, federal and state buildings and such), labor is required to be paid "prevailing wages".

Do you know what those are?

Union PLUS wages.

Now I'm sure I'll hear from all kinds of union members who will state that it "only evens the playing field".

BULLSHIT.

I'm one of those guys that competes against these fucks....and they pay about 15% "more" than I do, but that's incredibly deceptive.

The feds require me to match the union scale (even though I already pay health care, 401K's, state industrial, etc.)...so....I have to pay all that I already pay....PLUS their assumptions....which adds about 23% to my costs...and that's the intent.

The intent is to get the non union guy (since we're not allowed by federal law to deduct the expenses we pay for comparable services/benefits on a "prevailing wage" project) from the Davis Bacon act wage program, ergo....oh.....how about that....the union guys are "cheaper".

They're not...but as importantly, you, the taxpayer (and me) are paying on average....19% more for the same exact quality of work.

How is it possible, my guys (or anyone's guys) who are getting paid 85% of these guys wages are less effective at doing the same job when that's what they do every day?

Now add this in.....

My guys stay with me for decades....and when they leave, whether in 1 year or 30....they take their 401K with them.

What happens to the union guys?

I'm awfully glad you asked....

They don't get their pension (401K equivalent) unless they stay for 5 or more years and then it's a declining scale.

My guys get 100%

If they make ONE payment....they get it.

Unions....don't stay 5 years.....you're fucked.

A 401K....it's managed by a federally mandated policy and agency.

Unions.....imagine that mini bar at that deluxe hotel you stayed at on your honeymoon....and you took a few bottles of Vodka that will cost you 5 bucks for each sip.

Unions....they just grab what they want and there's never a fucking bill.

Coach? ROFLMFFAO....they don't travel coach.

(Trust me).

The Davis Bacon Act is the unions way of getting the average contractor to fight for a job and guess who pays the premium?

Yeah....that's right....you.

Wanna keep that going?

Vote for Obama.

A vote for Romney....I honestly don't know enough about the guy to say if he's got a brain large enough to fight this kind of crap....but if you want to pay 25% more for everything you buy, including city and state pensions, road work and everything else the feds write a check for.....Obama's your guy.

tazzygirl -> RE: Military cuts (8/1/2012 8:11:14 PM)

Do you honestly believe anyone is talking about giving the military a pay raise?

I would give every enlisted man below the rank of e6 no less than a 100% raise.
They are the ones who do the most bleeding.

I agree. That isnt the premise that Sanity declared here.. or the one that Lookie is trying to support.

No, the davis bacon act keeps low ball scumbag contractors from cheating workers out of their wages.

Absolutely yes.

For some all that counts is how much money is in their own bank account and could care less about what it takes to put it there.
What would they do if they threw a war and no one came out to play?

FR

Back on dear old Hoover: I read recently that Romney is the first presidential candidate since Hoover to run primarily on his record as a businessman. I wish I could remember where I saw that, but alas the heat has melted my brain.

They forgot Ross Perot. Unless they mean major party candidate.
