Hate and intolerance is human nature.

No. I disagree.  Hate and intolerance are learned. You are not born hating, you are not born intolerant. They are learned in the walk of life.

Lord, as for the cheese steak sandwhich and "immigrants" in the news lately, I think people aren't so much angry at Immigrants but the sheer number of Illegal Aliens in the country and the absolute failure of our govt. to stop it because of corruption.
I have no problem with "Immigrants" but I have a lot of problems having 11-20 million Illegal Aliens here.
That's not a "tolerance" issue it's a Law Enforcement/Government issue and President Bush is guilty of Dereliction of Duty for not dealing with this issue.
Our country is being invaded by millions of people from foreign countries who are not supposed to be here and people have the right and duty to be hostile towards not only them but our govt. which has allowed this situation to get so out of control.
The guy in Philadelphia who owns that Sub Shop is, I think trying to make a statement with his store's policy of English Only.
He has the right to do so under our system.
One thing is for sure; we can simply not "tolerate" millions of Illegal Aliens in our country just because our (present) government in Washington can't or more likely will not, do it's job.
People out in society (are) noticibly edgier these days because their incomes are under pressure from so many people willing to work for cheaper wages than them illegally. That is totally understandable.
What is not is that we have a President who refuses to enforce our laws and as a result is hurting working people throughout the U.S. I'm really starting to wonder if he should be impeached myself.
If he either can't or won't do the job he shouldn't be in office!
Bush has taken that even one step further by telling us "we "can't" deport millions of people who are here illegally" His type of thinking leads to wholesale breakdowns of law and order.
"Can't?"
Didn't we land a man on the moon?
Didn't we find a cure for Polio?
Didn't we invent the internet?
One thing for certain, Bush is REALLY putting a Hurting to Working People in this country, I don't think anyone would  argue against that.
You mentioned "Immigrants". Those who are in our country Illegally are not "Immigrants" they are Illegal Aliens.
That is under our system of laws two seperate and distinct groups or classes of people.
I'm fairly new here and I haven't really noticed people being intolerant or unfriendly.
I don't go into all the posts however, too many.
Any interactions I've had on here have been very cordial and friendly.
Lord, Cheer up! If we were in China or Iran or a lot of other countries there'd be no arguing or edginess at all!
Just boring compliance.
We DO need to fix this government so that it starts listening to the People.
I know I'll be very cheery after the next two elections!

Bush? this is all Bush's fault?
How about we blame CONGRESS, you know the assholes who run the country via lobbyists & special interest groups. Bush is a lame duck, with a 28% approval rating, he has no capitol to spend on Immigration.

It may be stress. The evil in the world has been on the increase for a long time now, and as a consequence so has the level of stress. Those form a positive feedback loop.

Alternatively, those who are evil may be manipulating the media with the intent to stimulate hostility between different parts of the population. One way to do that would be to start and stimulate flame wars on forums.

As has been remarked by someone else, there are also people who twist the words of others into something that was never intended. On another forum I asked someone a simple yes or no question, but instead of answering it, he harried me with a long analysis about why I asked that question. At that moment I gave up on him. There is no use in trying to communicate when the message is not understood as it was intended.

The world is over populated and taking up the breathing space we all eed. The rain forrests anf wild life are fast dissapearing and thus the whole planetary balance is off centre so why isn'y it suprising that the human animal is off centre too? How to fix?? Remove between 50% and 75% of the humans from the face of the earth. Stop all clearing of natural forests and jungles. Allow the world to recove and whilst it does allow the human species to grow up nd become responsible.. Failute to do any of this will see us after a holocast reverting back to either a tribal system (I can live with that) or to a feudal system (I can live with that as long as I am a feudal) but remove all mordern weapons and lets get back to basics so you can resonle issues with hand to hand combat sword on sword....... But then I dont have any faith in the human race ever maturing enough to manage things correctly .....

I agree with that for the most part.  I often say that I was born in the wrong era.  I'd have been happier when nature was wilder, despite the hardships.  At least when nature is in control, the idiots die young and don't breed!  [;)]  Sorry... that was a little snippy.  But the overpopulation and destruction of the ecosystems to everything's detriment does severely try my nerves and patience.  And as IB said... there will never be enough people who can see past their own comfort and money to the heart of the problem.  Much less be willing to do what's needed to start to fix it.

Subrob, I stand corrected, it's not "just" Bush's fault it's the U.S. Senate as well.
There is plenty of blame to go around in Washington.

The World isn't overpopulated, it's nowhere near overpopulation.

If the entire population of the world were put into the land area of Texas, each person would have an area equal to the floor space of a typical U.S. home and the population density of Texas would be about the same as Paris, France

Rule -> RE: Why are people so angry and hostile? (6/9/2006 5:40:23 PM)

IronBear is correct. The world is overpopulated. His sword against sword solution also is sensible.

The population ideally should be between thirty and three hundred million. The problem is caused by the many wars and other stress factors that the world has experienced during the past three hundred years.

In 1800 the population of The Netherlands was two million. In 1945 it was ten million. Now it is sixteen million.

Well, they've just made road rage an official diagnosis.  So, what about 'net rage, or chat rage, if you prefer?

I've been on Collarme for about two years.  Some people have been on here longer than that.  I have about 3,500 posts.  A few people have more than that.  But I've been here longer than most and have posted more than most.  And I've observed something lately.

People seem to be fucking ANGRY.  I don't understand it.  Why is everyone so angry, and where is all the intolerance coming from?  Every other thread seems to be about race or immigrants.  When it's not about that, it's usually some soap opera about a couple or a threesome that no one actually knows, but how they're doing something that's atrocious and horrible, and why they all need to be hanged by the balls for it.  Yeah, we always had people who thought their way was the only way; we always had people who went out of their way to offend everyone--but lately it's just gotten out of hand.  The threads go on and on, and eventually they just become mud-slinging contests.  Thirty pages about a household that no one even knows personally?  (That thread was finally pulled, thank God.)  Now page after page about political correctness?  Immigrants ordering in Spanish in a cheese steak joint?  Whether Jews are better lawyers or Chinese better wholesalers?

Look, if people enjoy arguing about this stuff, God bless, I'm not trying to start a revolution.  I contribute to those threads too.  I'd just like to understand where people get all the time and venom to expend condemning others on an ANONYMOUS INTERNET CHAT BOARD?  Why is everyone so upset?

I would like to see a bit more civility too; but I want to say that some of the frustration may come from being made to feel having a certain view-point or opinion makes them intolerant or even stupid.

Very good point, Level.

KatyLied -> RE: Why are people so angry and hostile? (6/9/2006 6:38:44 PM)

Yes, they are calling it "intermittent explosive disorder".  Will it be added to the DSM?

FelinePersuasion -> RE: Why are people so angry and hostile? (6/9/2006 6:58:16 PM)

I'm not angry I am down right cheerfull and happy about 95 percent of the time. bad moods are extreamly rare for me, let alone anger.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Why are people so angry and hostile? (6/9/2006 7:09:53 PM)

Well, those are a lot of interesting responses, and I'm hearing from a few people that the way the world is being visibly mismanaged must have something to do with what's going on.  That was my suspicion too.  There are always going to be differences of opinion; there's always going to be hatred and intolerance; but I've noticed that just coexisting peacefully seems harder today in the U.S. than it did ten years ago.

I think any time the populace is constantly deluged with : The long war on terror The long war on terror- Terrorism Terrorism Terrorism - Al Qaeda Al Qaeda Al Qaeda - and three bucks a gallon for gas, with the reciprocal effects of inflation, people are going to be hella uptight. And regardless who is to be blamed for the current state of being; the outcome is still the same: we're all being uncomfortably squeezed.

Sasy -> RE: Why are people so angry and hostile? (6/9/2006 8:14:19 PM)

It isnt just collarme it is all over several boards I am  on are like that ... And honestly I dont com here much because I cant tell most time who is cattier the males or females... I am  very  opinionated but I try.... when not with people who understand my  passions ... to  keep the majority of my thoughts to myself. Last year when posting about Rita Expereince I got some of the SWEETEST letters Dom and sub, Master and Slave alike  But then there were those dick heads telling me they  had heard enough... and  maybe they  had... But for the most part ... Angry  mean harsh ... What  ever you  want to put to it  boils down to  who pissed them off before they signed on I  think .... I have to much  going on in my  real life to  come here just to  fight with some one  Hmm I  think  I  got off topic a bit  but I think  it all blends in ... I  understand many  of us think differently  but if we can not discuss or debate without  becoming enraged ....... I  would first wonder why they were here .... to me ... this lifestyle is based on self discipline

ROFLAMO!!  I heard about that!  Yes, let's blame our lack of self-control on mental disorders!  I wonder how the psychologists and others will handle THIS one?  If they medicate those with road rage, will they even be able to drive? LOL.  That's so sad, I have to either be amused or scornful.

Of course, Pup and I've discussed the occurance of road rage before.  There's also a noticable difference between attitudes in the city verses the country.  I suspect this too is a symptom of over-population.  In a small population people know each other and give a shit.  In a city, the people in those other cars?  They aren't people, they're either jackasses or obsticles in your way.  When it's all about me, me, ME nothing can go perfectly and frustration occurs, which then ignites into insensible anger and then sometimes even violence.

Good post!  I for one would shuttle a link.... when they do dog rescues there are volunteers- that handle links to get it say from NYC to Nebraska.

Good points on how we can do things if we wanted to.

It is the whole package as you later post. Yes.  Well thought out. Keep tuned in. However- we gotta soon shift into solution mode. Lou Dobbs in on voting machines now------------------ hmmm

Lordandmaster -> RE: Why are people so angry and hostile? (6/9/2006 8:36:00 PM)

What are all these viewpoints and opinions that people are wrongly labeling as intolerant?

marieToo -> RE: Why are people so angry and hostile? (6/9/2006 8:42:15 PM)

Hi Everyone:

I have an off the subject question and I wasnt sure where to go with it, so dont all crucify me for sticking it here, please. [:)]

Is there any way to delete your own posts off of certain threads??? If so, how??

Thanks

Lordandmaster -> RE: Why are people so angry and hostile? (6/9/2006 8:46:45 PM)

No.  For about two hours after you make a post, you can go back and edit it.  You can't delete it, but you can wipe out what you wrote and just write "deleted."

After that, there's no way you can change what you've written.  If you really want something to be removed, you can e-mail the mods; usually they'll remove something if you ask them to.
