Gauge -> RE: Why are people so angry and hostile? (6/10/2006 6:48:45 PM)

I try to keep a level head at all times. I am not always successful, or diplomatic in the process. I could sit here and blame the world for why I sometimes get my ass up in flames with a topic, but I won't and I will own my responsibility in that. I have strong opinions, and I have admitted that I have been wrong and will continue to do so when I feel that I am wrong. I do not act any different on here than I do in person, when a deep discussion is going on and the passion for the topic rises things can get heated... it is human nature to want to be heard. Most of the reasons why I start a thread is because I am really interested in what people think about something. I have been called a homophobe, a racist, a bigot, intolerant and lastly, angry. Want to know the funny part? While I do have some anger issues (but I think we all do sometimes) I am not intolerant, a bigot, racist, or a homophobe. I think that the era of political correctness has allowed people to sling terms like this around in order to attempt to discredit someone. I do not like petty debates, I do like debates with some raw, blood dripping meat on it to sink my teeth into. Why? Because I am passionate about my views. I want others to be passionate with their views also. I don't think I have gotten into too many areas where I have called names... I have used sarcasm but that is just me. I learned a long time ago how to use words and to make them say what I want them to say. If this offends someone, I make no apologies for that except to say that if you really knew me, you would know I am a very sensitive person who loves people and wants to have fun with a group of people that I feel a bond with. I come here for intellectual stimulation... not because I do not get it in my daily life, but because I don't get enough of it. I come here because there are interesting, informative and brilliant people here that make me think about myself and my stance on some issues. I will read almost every post and find something about it that I can respond to either to challenge or to agree with. I am not an intolerant person. Some of my best friends are people. All I want to do is have some discussions with someone other than my neighbor who just doesn't have much to say. I have enough stress in my life... I don't come here to create more of it. This forum gives me a place where, from time to time, I can unload and vent about things that bother me. This is why I am here.
