DarkSteven -> Poland's turn to get dissed by Romney. (7/31/2012 6:19:20 AM)

Four years ago, Obama did a foreign tour. He got a rock star reception wherever he went.

Romney, unoriginally, decided to replicate Obama's trip and has proved that the sequel never measures up to the original. He's has an anonymous aide make what-could-be-racist comments about how Obama doesn't share Anglo-Saxon values with Britain, almost immediately thereafter proven that Anglo-Saxon white men can piss off England by deriding the Olympic preparations, abjectly caved (to an ally) by reversing his positions, and pissed off the country again by revealing that he'd met with the head of M16.

That was his first country.

Not surprisingly, when he visited the exceptionally delicate Middle East, he managed to piss off the Palestinians and Arabs. To his credit, he didn't piss off the Israelis.

By this point, he's shut himself off to the media, which is traveling with him. Thus, he's pissed off the Fourth Estate as well.

It was inevitable that he'd piss off the Poles as well. But how he did it was unbelievable. The press corps is clamoring for answers (that's their job). They're calling out questions. His press secretary yelled back to "kiss my ass" and "shove it". At a Polish holy site.

He has no control of his own people.

How did he manage to be a CEO?

Moonhead -> RE: Poland's turn to get dissed by Romney. (7/31/2012 6:23:19 AM)

Didn't Captain Magicpants become a CEO because his dad bought the company for him, or was that some previous Republican nominee?

Owner59 -> RE: Poland's turn to get dissed by Romney. (7/31/2012 6:28:53 AM)

Get ready for the "who gives a fuck" type replies from our Mittensgroupies and other cons.....

How often do we hear our conservatives tell our non-American members pretty much the same thing?

Nope. Having George Romney as a father obviously didn't hurt him, but Romney started off at Bain and had to prove himself before he became CEO.

You might be thinking of Dan Quayle or George W. Bush, both of whom were hopeless private sector incompetents that never would have gotten anywhere without their fathers' influences. Romney seems to have been a very effective, ruthless moneymaker for his stockholders, which makes it odd that he seems so incompetent in politics after living in that world for so many years.

So, to "show rerspect".....the reporters aren`t allowed to ask questions?

Thanks for the clip Lucy

"Kiss my ass! This is a Polish holy site! Show some respect!"

I bet that SNL leads off with that Saturday.

I expect the only reason that Willard can ever look good, is he surrounds himself with bigger assclowns than he is.

Marc2b -> RE: Poland's turn to get dissed by Romney. (7/31/2012 7:01:34 AM)

I'm going to give Romney a pass on this one. That mouthy bitch had it coming. I would have told her to shut the fuck up.

Actually this makes perfect sense. There's this fantasy that ruthless cost-cutting is the key to business success, and it just isn't so, except short term. You can cut your way to a few quarters profits. You can keep merging and cutting for a few more. But ultimately, it's not a long term business strategy (short of grabbing the profits to run).

This doesn't work with countries, unless you merge with another country--and that's a messy proposition, as history has shown us.

Leadership is, say, Henry Ford insisting it CAN be done, that a small engine with more horsepower is the way to go when his engineers were telling him it wasn't possible, or paying workers far ABOVE the standard wage, getting him the best workers, loyalty, and then raising wages AGAIN, it worked so well. Or pricing cars LOWER, so that everyone could and then would buy them--knowing these were strategies for long term financial success.

Leadership is FDR's New Deal, or Kennedy's moon trip vision, or Johnson's Great Society. Things people can't imagine can really happen at the time--and then bring them into successful reality.

That's not Mitt. He wants to cost-cut his way to prosperity, while expanding the largest expense, the military. Why? Lucrative contracts. All at the expense of those left holding the bag---the American taxpayers.

I dont think its odd.. in the private sector, "bad" press didnt hurt him & he could ignore it and do what he did best,.. in politics he is a fish out of water (no flip flop pun intended [:D]).. what worked for him as a CEO doesnt work in politics.. voters dont want a ruthless Prez, appearance is everything, they want one with some humanity (or at least the illusion of that).. That said, imo, Obama is still just as much a pawn of big business & banksters as Romney would be..

I expect that aide will be sent to the back room now tho.. [;)]

Why? Why is the conventional wisdom that politicians must be perfect in all things? It is an impossible standard to live up to and if, by some miracle, someone could their words are still going to be twisted around into something stupid or nasty by the opposition (which always gives a pass to its own side). Just once I'd like to see the President or some other politician or candidate listen to to some reporter's inane, condescending, question and then reply, "Jane, you ignorant slut."

Why are we expected to play along with these stupid "gotch ya" word games?

And the Romney aides failing at it.

While I agree it was not the place to respond to questions from the press.. the aide could have and should have been much more eloquent about it.. instead of it becoming a negative, it could easily have been turned into a positive, and showing the class of a potential future President, with better wording..

eta- seriously, you want a President of the United States to act and behave like the "Ugly American" stereotype??? especially on the world stage? [8|]

What I want (which I know I will not get because the mindset is too entrenched) is for people to stop with this "gotch ya" bullshit. To stop this arrogant presumption that I'm supposed to play along with the script:

Politician (or politician's subordinate) says "X."

Opposition makes a big deal out of "X," twisting it, if necessary to make it look nefarious.

The rest of us are supposed to play along, nodding our heads like pigeons and saying, "yup, yup, that proves it. He's no good... couldn't possibly vote for him."

It is one thing to make legitimate criticisms about policy but all of this nonsense over whispers during flag ceremonies or (probably jet lagged) aides telling mouthy reporters where to get off, etc, etc, is bullshit.

imo, the aide was just as disrespectful as the news-hungry reporters (& the ignorant slut) are.. dont you think the reporters live for instances like this?? why fall into that trap? It was really very stupid, and the aide knows this or he wouldnt have apologized half an hour later (but a bit too late cuz now he has those around him thinking he isnt up for the job and he has made his boss look bad as well).. There are ways of dressing down reporters in public without making yourself and your boss look like boobs..

Well....her job isn`t to shut up.

The aid could have just said "no,there`ll be questions later".....when she asked if they`d get a chance to ask them.
