FR
The US had pretty much come out of
the Depression by the time we entered
the war in December 1941. What the war
did in terms of manufacturing and the
military was to waken a sleeping giant as
a Japanese general put it.
The postwar boom was aided by the
industrialization of the country because
of the war. Before the war America was
still a largely agricultural country.
And yes it's foolish for both economic
and security reasons for a nation to
export it's manufacturing base.
But some if not most of the manufacturing
jobs shipped out are on their way to
being obsolete. America needs a new
manufacturing base built on skilled labor,
high tech, new tech, innovative tech.
I still think for the most part the companies
that took the jobs out of the country
are rat bastards, greedy rat bastards.

true, but a civil war, besides being an oxymoron is generally not economically sound. Perhaps another adversary would be more productive.

One more prediction. Hillary becomes president in 2014 or 2015.

Well the circumstances would be particularly grimm, considering just how far down the Secretary of State is in the succession order.Someone help me out, just how many untimely deaths would it take ?

4, actually (president, VP, Speaker, President Pro Tempore of the Senate, then Secretary of State), or a bit of a mix of events.

of course i am pulling everyone's chain. No way this would happen. Joe Biden would not step down, and Hillary get offered the VEEP position, grooming her for a 2016 run.
Then Mr Obama might leave in disgrace over something like Fast and Furious or the Birthers being proven correct, or some yet to be named fiasco. There would never be 3 or 4 apparently separate attacks perpetrated on the same day by a group of enemys, foreign and/or domestic. Even an attack during the state of the union by an inept attack could present that outcome. Why do you think Hillary never was offered or seriously considered for vice president. It will, of course, all work out to be a vast right wing conspiracy.

A wartime economy brings things back to the homeland from a National Security as well as supply line logistical point of view. This is quite in context. If you don't like the potential conclusion provide alternatives and
more hopeful outcomes.

Also brings about a great deal of death and destruction. The destruction we can undo; the deaths are difficult to remedy.

Plenty of infrastructure projects can be used to build a new economic base without enhancing the great killing machine.

There's a show that I used to watch (when it was on) and I own all the discs called: "The West Wing"

In one episode, they're gearing up for the SotU and the chief of staff tells the deputy CoS's secretary to remind him to "pick a guy".

The secretary asks the deputy CoS if he knows what that means. He says: "Yeah, I have to pick someone from the order of succession to be absent from the speach, in case a devestating tragedy happens."

She says: "Oh! Pick me!"

He says: "Where do you fall in the order of succession?"

She says: "I'm thinking I'll move up a few spaces if someone blows up the capital building, tonight."

I guess I'm kind of making a joke but kind of not. While we may think it unimaginable, I think most of us thought the same thing about the WTC falling.

Hillary, becoming president, woud be a disgusting turn of events but, I am sure she has publicly stated that she's stepping down, after president Ofailure's first term is finished.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Hillary to step down

I'll accept your apology for calling me a liar, now (unless you are dishonorable).

Peace and comfort,
