What are your expectations and crystal ball predictions?

Settle for the old Magic 8-ball?

Stagflation, and malaise.  Increasing dependency, and an expansion of the entitlement culture.  A nice surrender ceremony in Afghanistan (I say we just leave, and cover the rear with B-52s, btw - there is no such thing as "victory" in Afghanistan).  More legislating by executive order.  Another wave election for Repubs in '14.  Scandal.

Same economists that said that unemployment would not go above 8%

It's Bush's fault. Weve heard it a thousand times. What ever happened to 'The buck stops here"...

It happened under Bush's watch... and not just at the end. When are you conservatives going to stand up and take responsibility for that?

Economists stated it would take 8 - 12 years to dig out of this mess.

Dont know... you will have to chase down the economist who said that and find out.

Obama's new campaign slogan. " forward".. Good luck with that.

This is the point, we live in some form of a Democracy.

The people vote and they decide.

It really doesn't matter if you are EVER happy with the President or not, the people get to decide.

Some people around here are starting to sound, UnAmerican.
I don't like it!

Psst it's a representative republic.
They decide on their reps, the reps actually make the call. It's like being married with the rep being like your spouse who may or may not follow your wishes.
That is American.
The people have a right to speak up, voice their opinions and their objections, and the hope is that they will educate themselves, listen, evaluate, and make informed decisions.
I served the country for a number of years to defend my right to voice my opinion as well as your right to voice yours.

Let me be more specific, Which economists have said this, and how long ago. I need to know how long this will continue, and what will keep it on the 8 year rather than 12 year side, or were they just blowing smoke?

Of course you have that right atursvcMaam, I listen to right wing/conservative talk radio from time to time, and I get a kick out of calling; Republicans/ those leaning right/and conservatives, "UnAmerican".

Those of us on the Left have heard it for years, so if the shoe fits, anyone can wear the shoe.
If/When President Obama is re-elected, I think many on the Right are going to go berserk.

This may not apply to you at all, but it applies to many on the right these days.

Many on the right seem to be really poor sports, and I am hearing things that sound UnAmerican.

...And Up To 12 Years
And here’s one more depressing forecast from the Brookings Institute (Chart below, click to enlarge, the thick line shows the actual net number of jobs lost since the Great Recession began.)

….If the economy adds about 208,000 jobs per month, the average monthly rate for the best year of job creation in the 2000s, then it will take until July 2023 to close the job gap. At a more optimistic rate of 321,000 jobs per month, the average monthly rate for the best year of the 1990s, the economy will reach pre-recession employment levels by May 2016.

http://seekingalpha.com/article/251018-u-s-economy-12-years-to-fill-the-12-4-million-job-gap

Here is just one.

How does an economy absorb 17 trillion dollars in losses?

What else, what other event do we have to compare this against?

This didn`t just happen all by itself and it won`t fix itself all by itself.

Don`t underestimate the capacity and talent and depth that republicans have for fucking up.

They can easily make things worse......much worse.

Imagine if we had let the republicans "privatize" social security.

How many more billions or trillions would have sucked down that rat hole?

If Obama wins.. the war on the poor, elderly and ill, will be dealt a serious setback.

I dunno.. that sounds like Obama will just be holding off the Republicans but that isnt actually moving anyone's rights forward at all, thats just keeping things where they are.. That isnt progress, imo.. just sayin'..

its gonna be interesting to see how it works and how much it costs when the dust settles.. especially with the boomers' increasing health care needs..

tj444, we went through something called The Great Depression in America, that ended about 72 years ago.

We entered into another Depression around 2007, the last Depression lasted a good 10 years.

What helped to end the Last Great Depression here in the United States was World War 2, FDR and his "New Deal/Economic Bill of Rights", as well as the creation and the RISE of WELL PAYING manufacturing jobs.

Since we have managed to outsource most of the well paying/manufacturing jobs that were created after the last Depression, common sense will tell you it's going to take a long time to get us out of this one.

Mitt Romney has no magic wand to pull us out of this crap, in fact Romney represents the face of why we have lost millions of jobs in the first place.

What country outsources most of it's well-paying jobs, and then replaces them with low paying service jobs, and expects to be prosperous?

We did not dig ourselves into this hole overnight, and we sure as hell are not coming out of it overnight.

My post was not about Romney, it was about what people think Obama will accomplish (or not) in the next 4 years..

Starting the war in Iraq and the cost of that contributed to govt debt and this lastest depression.. the money blown invading a country under false pretense could have instead been spent on subsidizing solar on every rooftop in the US (or as many as possible) and not just reduced the US dependence on oil but created many jobs too.. not to mention that whole PC green thing...

We CAN'T get out of this mess/hole quickly, period, and point blank.

President Obama is not GOD, and only GOD can create miracles.

To expect a miracle from any human being is nuts.

To answer your question, I feel that President Obama will CONTINUE to get us out of the hell hole of an economy that he INHERITED, and he will accomplish a lot!

To bad he can't run for a 3rd or 4th term!

since your big buggaboo is outsourcing.. what has Obama actually done about that, exactly? He has gone on to sign a few more free trade agreements and is trying to get one signed with China (last I heard).. arent all you anti-outsourcers also against free trade agreements???

The last time I checked, the President does not have the power to do "whatever he wants", in this country.

Are you aware of how the United States was created?
The Constitution and the 3 branches of government?
It's 2:00am here and I don't have time to teach a civics class.
Here is an informative and educational website, it teaches how the President does not have the power, to just "do whatever he wants".

Congress for kids

After you read the site, you will learn that our government was created so that the President would have to work with the Legislative and Judicial Branches of the Government,

I checked the White House Blog, and President Obama laid out his plans to fix the economy last week.
President Obama on the economy/time to make tough choices

I like playing with you, I will be back tomorrow.

I never said he needed to do whatever he wants but what he has done is sign new free trade agreements (he certainly seems to have the power to do that) which anti-outsourcers equate with outsourcing even more.. So in actuallity he seems to be doing exactly the opposite of what you want him to do (meaning ending outsourcing).. Under his watch, China was recently approved to have a bank in the US now too..

I looked at that whitehouse blog and nice speech but nothing concrete or very specific there that I could see..

yes, initially but once his plans were made clear it would disappear.. but the health care plan has been uncertain under Obama since its inception too, with the court challenges and some states fighting it.. but yes once Obama wins again, its a done deal..
