DarkSteven -> Why is Romney's campaign so lackluster? (8/6/2012 3:22:39 PM)

While I fault W for his governance, there's no question that his campaigning style was deadly effective. Karl Rove got much of the credit, but he didn't do it alone. There should be a bunch of sharp GOP campaigners. But I'm not seeing them! Romney's campaign has been anything but stellar. As his GOP opponents pointed out, his winning primary strategy was to smother them by outraising and outspending them. Now it's the general campaign and Romney's looking lost. He's been on the defensive due to Bain and his tax returns, and hasn't been able to get any traction, even on the economy. During his overseas tour, he quit talking to the media except for a few soft interviews, and his latest promise was that he would do "something dramatic" to better the economy but wouldn't say what. What happened? It looks like Romney isn't using any of the battle-hardened GOP campaign veterans. Santorum and Gingrich are barely supporting him, and Palin and Bachmann are pushing their own agendas and couldn't be bothered to support Romney. Cain, Perry, and Hunstsman have pretty much dropped out of the process. The party that once said its goal was to make sure that Obama is a one-term President seems to have decided not to fight him. What happened? Did Romney make that many enemies? Or did the GOP fragment to that degree?
