I participated in a scene like that... it's not that unusual. (Did you know that dental floss is really, incredibly flammable?) I am guessing that the participants in that scene didn't have bottles of water, wet towels, and wet hands?

SMH. FIRE BURNS!

Yeah well I'm paying the price , met Sat with a Master an still can't walk!
Been to doctor an if I got anything from this person I will release the name .
At least it hopefully won't happen to anyone else!!!!!

Oh, was this the guy you were posting about on multiple threads who was ignoring you and not replying back to you who you were concerned about standing you up on your first meet

I guess it all worked out.

Alltiedup57 - I see on your profile that you say "need to take this slow." Next time, listen to yourself. In fact, I suggest you spend a year reading non-fiction BDSM books, and going to munches and BDSM events before you meet with a "Master" alone again.

Some people learn the hard way. Silly, when you can look it up. I was into wax play for a while, more of an experimental or learning stage than anything else. I learned through several discussions before doing anything, or I wouldn't have known the difference. Beeswax is nasty, and scented candles are just asking for a trip to emergency, but that's not common knowledge outside of the "community" unless you look up burning temperatures.

If my girl ever wanted to try something I wasn't familiar with, I'd have her make me familiar with it; and if she didn't know we'd look it up together. I don't take unnecessary chances with the people I love.

Lucifyre -> RE: Why does this happen? (8/8/2012 9:02:01 AM)

Sadly I believe BOTH parties are responsible.
let me explain:
I am in charge of what happens to my person at all times. If I put myself in a risky situation, it is MY job to be aware of my surroundings and to the best of my ability protect myself. If I scene with someone I do not know well, then I assume the risk that the person I am letting do nasty thigns to me knows what they're doing...and if they don't, it's MY fault for not making asure they did in the first place.
I won't even get into the side of what the tops responsibilities are since I can only speak for myself.

Mistakes happen, usually due to human error and carelessness. I saw the pictures of the scene you described LadyP and all I can say about that is BOTH of them, the top and the bottom are at fault. The bottom for not making sure that the candles used on thier body were of the safER variety and not making sure there are wet towels or water close by in case of an accident the top for the same damn things. There is no way to make a fire scene of ANY kind 100% safe. Those burns are nasty enough that the bottom should be in the hospital for a few days just to ensure there is no infection which is EXTREMELY common in burns). But my bet is, they got treated and went home.

You can't fix stupid. The gene pool needs a bit more thinning I think.

LadyPact -> RE: Why does this happen? (8/8/2012 10:14:36 AM)

I do have the link, but I do not have permission from the individual to post it. If I can obtain that permission, I will put it on this thread. (Only with the Mod's blessing, of course.)

I was still pretty much in shock when I wrote the original. I heard this story over the weekend while I was at the camp out. At first, I really thought it was one of those 'let's freak out Lady Pact' things because, while I'm not a safety nazi, I am very adverse to stupid shit. Yes, accidents absolutely can happen. However, stuff that didn't have to happen is a whole other ball game. This is not what I would term an accident. This was a blatant case of lack of education. In this day and age, there isn't a good excuse for that. If a person is competent to do needle play, they should have the brain in their head to research wax.

I have no comment on the pictures on the other site or the thread that discusses the incident. The pictures have a disclaimer on them about not chastising the top or bottom involved. I'm not quite sure I would be able to live up to that standard.

Why are there the ubiquitous "Don't try this at home" warnings on tv? Because people see things or get an idea into their head, and it appeals to them, they're excited about doing it and they don't take the time to think things through. It's nothing new.

I honestly think that those disclaimers are somewhat to blame for shit like this happening. Of course it would still happen even without the disclaimers, people will always do stupid stuff.
But at the same time, the fact that there are warning labels on EVERYTHING now has helped to create culture where the personal responsibility people should have about thinking things through is shifted to other people and the warning labels. It's gotten to the point that when certain people are NOT specifically told they shouldn't do something stupid, they not only go ahead and do it, but also blame whoever didn't tell them to do it as being the one responsible when things go wrong.

I'm so sick of the fact that people have given up thinking for themselves to the point that we need warning on candles that say: "caution, may cause burns when applied to human skin" when that warning label in and of itself will make people think even less...

Agreed.

Himself and I having a running joke about not putting the baby in the plastic bin and then putting the lid on. Or not letting the baby play with the plastic wrapper.

I mean, really? That there are people so clueless they need to be told not to put their baby in a plastic bin and then closing the poor kid up is just well, sad beyond reckoning. Not to mention people so ignorant they need to be told plastic wrapper is a suffocation hazard.

So many of these kinds of mistakes are brought on not so much by lack of knowledge, we all have lack of knowledge in some areas, but by an inability to learn. When you don't know how to acquire knowledge, you are well and truly fucked.

Which segues perfectly into my next line, which is, when you don't know how to learn how to make Rice Krispy Treats, your life means nothing, NOTHING !!

Slightly off topic, but my daughter got given a book last week that has printed on the back 'Warning: no part of this book is intended for consumption'
Honestly never occurred to me that people would think a book was meant to be eaten.

I recently bought a jar of peanut butter that had a label "Caution: contains nuts".

Master maintains that we should just stop doing caution labels and let Darwinism take it's course.

TNDommeK -> RE: Why does this happen? (8/8/2012 11:29:54 AM)

I think Kana said it best. Darwinisms. Some people on this planet really just make Me drop My jaw. I cannot believe some people sometimes.

I approve of Oside and K's posts.

tj444 -> RE: Why does this happen? (8/8/2012 11:48:41 AM)

Imo, it starts early.. like in elementary school.. imo, kids are taught not to think on their own.. I remember sitting in class as a child, there was a multiple choice question and 4 possible answers.. except I thought there was another answer but not one of the 4.. which of course automatically made my answer wrong.. after 12 or more years of being taught to be myopic and think narrowly, to think within the box, that (imo) is how some people end up if they dont develop further.. someone else has to think for them.. school tells you how to think, your parents tell you how to think, friends tell you how to think, your bf/gf tells you how to think.. your boss tells you how to think.. etc, etc.. commonsense is drummed out of them.. The fact that there needs to be a warning label on pretty much everything seems to indicate that there are plenty of brain-dead people out there.. Now are they born that way or made that way??? Nature or nurture??
