The few times I have bothered to look at profiles on the other side lately...yes. It seems that all of them are huge fans of that flipping POS.

I sure have. And in general, I laugh at them and move on. Hell, I was even contacted by a C. Grey. That was...interesting. Every single thing he said was along the lines of excerpts that I have read from the book on Amazon, even though he maintains that C. Grey was his name before the books came out. Yea. I start to like the book, I still think the writing is piss poor, but yesterday morning after a long dog walk I sat down and had an espresso, one table further a bunch of women (not teenagers, they were very well dressed 30 somethings) were talking about one of the spin off soft BDSM books openly and wondering where to get blindfolds and handcuffs from... I don't think they will every be BDSM players, but if the general public read the book and tried a bit themselves, they possibly don't view us as those dangerous perverts, and it will be a lot harder to arrest people for consensually whooping each other's behind.

Oh yeah, and I had to bite my tongue to not turn around and say "Just use frickin' scarves, improvise..."

I REFUSE to read those books. I much prefer the Millenium Series and like to think about tasers and hammers.

I hate fad books like 50 Shades - except I like to think about all the people that are out in fantasyland and then get whipped or flogged for the first time - and realize that it doesnt get them horny like they thought it was going to. (unless of course they are a masochist - and then .. well ya know)

I also wonder how many relationships have split up because of those books - I would probably guess quite a bit.

Do a search for:

Username: Fifty
Sort by: Joined

And every thing else left blank...

You'll get a list of 10 users who have started their nick with "fifty" in between '04 and '10; and 27 users who have started their nick with "fifty", most often even "fifty shades" starting in late '11.

And those are just the ones who don't have enough of an imagination to figure out a nick unrelated to the damn book...

Lately I was messaged by a guy with a Christian Screen name and he couldn't tell me why it was screen name, while messaging me he didn't tell me why he was a dominant, what he wanted so basically I took it as him thinking he wants to be dominant because of the book Trilogy. While its great people are being introduced to bdsm by the books, I disliked the portrayal of bdsm in the books -smirks- looking forward to see if any other Christians message me with not knowing what they are doing.

Absolutely. I'm really just waiting for how hurt some people will get thinking BDSM is like that book. It wouldn't surprise Me if we end up with a thread someday, from a crying OP, that the Dom she met got exactly what she didn't expect from the "got three holes" line. Somebody is going to be dumb enough to believe fiction, and it's going to change their life in a bad way.

Just a (mildly) interesting aside - when I first got into bdsm I was sure I was a service sub. No freakin' WAY was anyone gonna smack me with anything harder than a feather.

Then my first Dom turned out to be a sadist. I discovered I rather enjoyed our sessions, and he described me as a 'seriously freaky masochist'...I was so proud!

Maybe reading 50 shades of shite might actually push some people to trying out pain play and bondage and all that good stuff, and realise it's what's missing in their lives?

No, but I read an article about a month ago that claimed that the is a huge increase in women signing up for SugarDaddy dating sites, as a result of 50 Shades.
