~FR~ He spoke out against the wars but for indefinite detention? Did I miss a flip-flop, or did Clint go off-script? I liked it when he said "We own this country!" Paul Ryan's eyes got bigger than dinner plates, then Clint clarified the statement. He meant We The People, not We the Rich White Republicans. Whew! That was a close one.

The Veep candidate got a thread here about how he "electrified" the Convention. Eastwood's double act with a chair got its own thread too. But the star of the show, poor hapless Mittens couldn't even get a thread of his own here. If Ryan electrified us, then Mittens desensitized us. Excuse me while I yawn.

Anyone would think he was emulating Eugene Ionesco. I think some people are missing the major point here. Did it engage the audience and make them laugh throughout the performance? To me it did, therefore it was successful. The guy is in his eighties, he's a dramatic actor, and the pauses could have been down to not getting the timing exact. Very easy to criticize it from the comfort of your computer screen, but I'd like to see some of you pull off something similar.

I would have actually aimed a lot higher, for "COMPETENT" and "PROFESSIONAL". First, I would have hired an actor who was able to deliver the speech as written with the emotion and inflection specified by the event's production designer and director. Second, I would have fired the Production Designer the moment he suggested the nitwitted faux-Miller/faux-Kafka/faux-Beckett/faux-I-don't-even-know idea of having Eastwood play to an empty chair.

A link for text and video of the Romney speech were posted in there, along with an advance invitation for the thread participants to watch it for themselves on CSpan (broadcast with no commentary at all). Unfortunately, and as I noted in that invitation, it seems too many people, again, have chosen to focus on what they were told to talk and think about, rather than watching, and forming their own opinions.

Damn you whine a lot. I read the speech (on Fox's site, actually--they had it up first). 2/3 yawn, 1/3 what's here is evil, 0/3 workable plans or solutions. Same old. I never watch those things, no matter who's giving it. I can read it in a tenth of the time.
