Those on the 'left', and there are many here on collarme, don't see it that way. marie2, you are exactly right..

It is because he made fun of Obama. You are not supposed to do that. After all, those on the left LOVE old people. Until they ridicule Obama.

BTW, do you know if any of the fact checkers have claimed that, “We all know that Biden is the intellect of the Democratic Party.” is a lie yet? [:D]

I don't see that he made fun of Obama. I see that he was attacking Obama's policies and inaction. (that's the job of the speakers at the RNC).
My concern is that he looked disjointed and at times confused. They might have wanted to go over his bullet points ahead of time but I have a feeling he was ad libbing which makes this impossible.
He's an actor/director. He is an artist and over the decades, Ive enjoyed hell out of his work. This was an attempt at performance art and, properly done, it would have knocked it out of the park.
Unfortunately, the reality was more like the aging quarterback with ripped up knees and shoulder problems strapping them on one last time only to throw an interception as he gets buried under 300# linemen.
I'd much rather remember "Dirty Harry" or the "Pale Rider" or "Gunny Highway" than what I saw the other night which was a disjointed, confused performance.

This.

The general implication that he's gone senile and didn't realize he was actually talking to an empty chair is preposterous.

Would you care to point out someone who has done that?

Did you read the op or the thread title?

It says nothing about "not knowing he was talking to a chair" which is the claim I asked for clarification on.

That's how I took your question to me. And I think I gave you the clarification you were seeking.

You ever read about a mormon prophet who dreamed of becoming a king;
and didn't become one?
Well except for the name and a few other changes, Willard's storys the same one....

I adored Clint.... watched every movie, loved him until he split with his first wife to get off with the dumb bitch sondra locke. Still he had the charm, I didnt care about his politics.
Watching him last night, I almost cried for what was, and how far he has gone..
It was almost as creepy as watching a reagan hologram would have been.
Rich angry old white man, trying to cling to the glory days.
He fit in perfectly

Watch an old man talk to an empty chair for 10 minutes.

http://youtu.be/hRsfCteQxCE

This Clint Eastwood appearance is embarrassing, and I wonder if his agent is looking out for his interests as is his fiduciary duty...

"Invisible Obama: Every Which Way But Lucid"

@InvisibleObama had 30,000 twitter followers in an hour.

He wasn't talking to the chair, he was using it as a prop in his speech. Now I will agree that there were moments wher he seemed to be at a loss of what to say next but he is 82. I wonder how coherent you will be by that age?

I doubt I will be addressing a national audience.....so if ,as I suspect,I'm drooling on myself hopefully no one will notice [8|]

Yeah I did/ and am doing so.....I still haven't come across a single post that indicates a belief that Clint actually thought there was someone in the chair.
If you could point me to just one post wherein someone suggests this I would appreciate it

This just in
Clint Eastwood has just announced he'll be traveling across America taking on rogue Swedish furniture at all IKEA stores.

Is rogue a brand of Porch rockers?

The Veep candidate got a thread here about how he "electrified" the Convention.

Eastwood's double act with a chair got its own thread too.

But the star of the show, poor hapless Mittens couldn't even get a thread of his own here.

If Ryan electrified us, then Mittens desensitized us. Excuse me while I yawn.

Start a thread on cults if it concerns you.
It seems by the criteria you laid out. he would have had to sdo something noteworthy to get his own thread.

First sentence in the OP "Watch an old man talk to an empty chair for 10 minutes. "

Lucylastic -> RE: Did the RNC take advantage of a senile old man? (9/2/2012 4:49:27 AM)

"The general implication" , would suggest more than just the OP.
"Didnt know he was talking to an empty chair" is different to "Watch an old man talk to an empty chair for 10 minutes"
but that could just be me[;)]

Well, yes. And since nothing he has said or done has managed to rise to "something noteworthy," I'd think that a concern to his campaign.

All that's left is lies and money. Lots of each.

Finally. Someone comes along who understands that the word "general" means general, as opposed to specific.

quote:

I agree, it is different...which is why the situation was described by me as a general "implication", rather than a "claim". I hadn't even seen the specific statement that Thishereboi pointed out, but I'd say that fits into the implication catagory as well, especially when you couple it with words like "senile" and mocking puns like "Any which way but lucid".

At any rate, I was remarking more about what I was seeing everywhere, not just on message boards, but in the media etc.

There was another poster on the thread...I believe his nick is DaddySatyr, who also stated similar observations about the media and things of that nature....And how no one was coming right out and saying it directly, but there has been an undertow eluding to it...Read an "implication"

How refreshing to see that a few people on this thread (regardless of political views) understand the basic vocabulary of their native tongue.

Musicmystery -> RE: Did the RNC take advantage of a senile old man? (9/2/2012 8:21:03 AM)

So in other words, you're backing off so completely that really you weren't really saying anything, and people mistook you as saying something.

Bill (the bigot) Maher also seems to be aware of the position under discussion, and has his own take on Clint's performance.
