Other than a lack of motivation t o do much of anything, I don't think I am depressed cause I'm my usual happy bubbly self, but Daddy thinks my lack of motivation or interest in doing anything is depression.

I am pretty much a shut in, I don't go very many places or see very many people and have been for many years now so that part is par the norm for me. It doesn't bother me to much most days.

i dont know you.....but maybe you,re just being lazy? no offense.

if you would feel low in energy and couldnt physically want to get up to do things, now i would call that a sign.....

i often feel that way, i dont know if it is depression, but the lack of motivation to do anything at *all* may be a sign.

Do you feel like just staying in your bed all day long and only existing instead of living?

Can be for a whole host of reasons, from biological, environmental as well as psychological

I know that's not much help though

No offense at all. I've been known to be lazy. Totally. And not knowing me it's a valid question.

Yes most days I just lay in bed and watch tv and I am on the pc a lot. Sometimes I want to get up and pick up my room or go outside and get some air but I just feel so lethargic or something I just stay there instead. I am totally just existing for the most part.

I am quite happy to be at home, among family, and not be a social butterfly.

If you are indoors a lot, I hope your doctor keeps tabs on your vitamin D levels. When mine fall low I am tired all the blessed time.

Are there hobbies and things you used to do that you have stopped doing? If he sees your life as out of balance in some way, he might be interpreting it wrong and yet have a point to make all at the same time. Is there something he would like to see you doing?

My home has everything I want. My favorite movies, books, hobbies, pets, companions. Even internet to cover times when I want to socialize with other people and not have to endure cigarette smoke or whatever.

I do know that one time the dr put me on abilify on top of my bipolar and adhd meds and then I really was depressed. All I felt like doing was sleeping and crying. It was the most annoying thing ever, and he didn't believe I was depressed cause every time I went to see him I was manic, cause going to the pych med dr's appointments tend to do that to me, or did when I was going regularly. I ama lways made nervous by going.

Yes. but my interest in my hobbies wanes and waxes normally. I can go 2-3 months with out sewing or crafting a thing and then get back into it for a while then go 2-3 months not touching a thing again.

I'll have to mention my vitamin D levels to her . Daddy recently found out his were super seriously low, and he had no idea they were.

lathary can be brought about by staying in bed, too much sleep, junk food, high short chain carb intake (processed carbs, sugars etc) and so on.

force yourself to get up, and get yourself outside. you have a dog so what is she doing while you are in bed all day? i would have thought you'd want to take her for a walk at the very least.

i'd say that a poor diet and lack of exercise are more likely the cause. depression usually carries more symptoms to be honest.

She's in bed with me. She hangs out with momma and has a dog door so she can come and go as she likes. So mostly she's in here, and sometimes she goes out and runs around and she rolls in the dirt, has a good time patrolling the yard, and then comes back and lays with me.

Okay, I am not clear, you are on bi-polar meds?

Is this correct?

I'm not an expert, hopefully one will chime in shortly, but from what I've heard, they are very difficult to calibrate correctly. So it might be you need a bit more or a bit less.

Diet is important, most especially if you ingest lots of empty sugar and carbs. Spends some of your net time researching diet, and try to understand how what you eat effects how you feel.

A body in motion stays in motion, likewise, a body in bed, stays in bed. At your age, seriously hun, it's a death sentence. Your body was engineered to move. The thing is, if you haven't for years, it's going to be hard to rush into a major exercise program.

Can you take doggie for a 5 min walk once a day? Try doing that for two weeks. Then slowly build up.

I think if you got yourself moving, improved your diet, and your meds were calibrated, you would feel much better. I have personally never viewed you as depressed.

It may just be the medication. Mood stabilizers often have some "zombifying" side effects. Maybe try a different one, or lowering the dose you're on, or try adding an anti-depressant if you don't have one already for more energy. You could also try checking your blood levels for thyroid, iron and b-vitamins, but I'd bet it's the medication.

Yup. Trileptal for bi polar and I take it 2 pills a day twice a day. I'm doing pretty good on them. it was 1 pill in morning and 1 at night, and then we switched it to two a morning and 2 a night . It's working good.

I can try to take her out for 5 minutes, yes, Just a quick up and down the road. And maybe even go out with her in the yard for a bit, in addition to walks, get some fresh air and sunshine,

Okay, does your doc know you don't move at all but spend the day in bed? If not tell them. Then see if they still think your meds are well calibrated.

Go very slow on the walks. Just five minutes once a day, til it seems normal and fun and it's not hard. Then try and go for six or seven minutes. Really take it slow, b/c with an exercise program, you want to go into it with win, not fail. If you try too much, you will fail.

If you go into it slow, you will win.

And you have such a pretty dog, she should encourage you to try for the WIN.

Yes, she knows I am extremely un mobile, and she is always gently scolding me that i need to be up and out of bed and walk more, because i will certainly get to stiff to move more than I already am, and she cares a lot about that not happening.

You are stiff b/c you do not move. I know, I get this too, but I am twice your age and have some medical issues.

Take it one day at a time, just five minutes a day. You can do it. It may take a few weeks, but you will feel better.

Some meds will zone you out, lull you down,
make it very difficult to work up the energy
to do much of anything.

You need to talk to your doctor about it.
There could be a physical problem to
of some kind so check that out.

But don't do anything with your meds
without talking to your doctor. Don't
quit taking them or try adjusting them
on your own.

Okay lethargy can be side effects of both bipolar and ADHD medications... that and diet is what I would look at first. Just my
opinion. I was on add meds for a short time and they made me so fucking tired I would almost fall asleep at my desk at work. My doctor kept
playing with times and levels and finally asked if the add was really fucking with my quality of life, when I tx him I didn't feel
it did, he took me off. I had antideppresants for awhil on top.of them for a short time for situational depression but he stopped
those because of suicidal ideation which I recognized because I was planning how to do it constantly. I feel the least amount of
prescriptions one can get by on the better...

The less refined carbs and more veggies I eat, the more energy I have, and then I exercise, which gives me more energy.

You can get stuck in a negative or positive loop.

Chris, you know that you are surrounded by fat people that eat the wrong food and don't exercise, and just enable your lifestyle. I am sorry about all that, but you will have to create your own motivation.

I am stoked to the gills on antidepressants, my brain chemistry doesn't EVER work right. My entire life is mood management. It's really exciting now, with menopause messing with me. If it helps, write down how you are feeling when you get up, and a few times during the day. Maybe you can find a pattern of how your mood goes up and down at various times, or maybe when you eat certain foods.
