What I watched of the convention, was on PBS. Some of the speeches I heard on the radio, with the right wing commentators following up.

I tend to use to web to read opinions, and to spot the biases that slant each story, but I don't believe most of what I read online, and the newspaper/ news magazine business is dead, they just don't seem to get it yet.

I have a question Rob. I have recently started watching PBS and find it has some great stories on it. How accurate do you, or anyone else come to that, feel they are ?

I have been watching some recently that are 4 x 75 minute broadcasts, the last was about Clinton. I found the content pretty much tallied with facts available via the media etc.

I find it better than everyone else. Their news coverage is actually very good, and they cover world events much better than any of the main stream news networks.

But their commentators like Charley Rose, Gwen Ifil, Judy Woodruff, and Travis Smiley are obviously biased toward the left. But they're nowhere near as bad as Hannity or Maddow, and don't talk over or scream down their guests.

The convention coverage was very fair, and the commentators actually showed the speeches and broadcast them, and saved the commentary and panel discussions for the breaks in between speakers.

I enjoy the programming over all, and tend to think they do a good job of showing the subject of the program in a fair and unbiased manner.

Easy test of their leanings...how many times did they allege (not just report what others said) or intentionally leave the impression that Ryan's speech wasnt factual?

I listen to the speeches and watch the debates.
As far as television and this campaign
I've relied on PBS for the most part.
I watched their coverage of the speeches
and then followed up with Charlie Rose
and BBC World News, which on my local
were shown back to back after the
convention. I regularly watch both
programs and think they are balanced
and thoughtful.

On the radio I listen to NPR and the BBC.

The newspapers I read regularly are the
NY Times, The Washington Post, and
the British papers particularly the Times
and the Guardian.

I subscribe to the New Yorker which
does some political coverage.
I regularly read but don't subscribe
to the Nation, the National Review
and the New Republic.

I really haven't followed a lot of blogs
or online sites for election coverage.
I do check in with the Daily Beast and
the Huff Post and I like Slate and Poltico.

And I try and read books about issues
I'm interested in or that I recognize I
need to know more about. History and
biographies to. I've got Chernow's
biography of George Washington on
the nightstand but it's a bit by bit
experience reading it.

During the speech, they shut up and let Ryan talk... After the speech, they never said anything about the content, other than it was a very good speech, and did fired up the base.

It wasn't until Charlie Rose's show after the speech did the left leaning commentary appear.

Gewn Ifil did a great job hosting the coverage for PBS. She left the bias at the door and provided balanced coverage of the convention.

Charlie had Republican strategist on his shows
to. I didn't think it went extreme in either
direction. The guests were thoughtful
and there wasn't any rancor or one
upmanship like you see in other places.
Everyone was civil that I recall.
And Charlie himself is very civil and
is generally a neutral observer.
Before the convention he did hour
long interviews with both Ryan and
Rubio and I think he was very fair
with them and both came off well
especially Rubio.

How can anyone provide balanced coverage on Lyin Ryan and Willard R Money?

For international news I like Al-Jazeera and the Economist...one's a somewhat left-leaning TV network based in Qatar, the other's a free-trade-evangelist magazine based in Britain, but both cover news from many different countries, not just the ones the US is at war with.

I also recently discovered the Economic Hardship Reporting Project, which has some really hard-hitting stories about America's economic problems and is a good antidote to NY Times silliness.
