Come back when you have a Masters in Economics. Till then, you wouldnt know the difference between Kool-Aid and real fruit juice.

Say Georgie has 100 apples. Each year, he gets 40 more. That's good, because he owes 30 in return for people helping him run the joint, and he uses the other ten to pay back people he borrowed from in the past. In fact, he has that surplus because the previous guy, Billie, set it up for him. 100 + 40 - 30 = 110, -10 to retire debt, = 100. A sustainable system.

Now Georgie decides he doesn't want to collect so many apples. So he decides to collect only 20 apples a year now. Shortly thereafter, he decides to start two wars, which means he'll need, in addition to the 30 apples a year he owes to people running the joint, another 10 apples per war to reward the people running those shows.

So now he has 50 apples going out each year, but only 20 apples coming in. That means 100 +20 - 50 = 70. Oops. That's what's called structural deficit. That means Georgie has put in place a repeating shortfall. Since he can't pay on the past debt, it starts growing again instead of shrinking. And next year, he starts with 70 apples: 70 + 20 - 50 = 40. Oops. And the year after that, 40 + 20 - 50 = 10. Uh-oh. What's going to happen????

Georgie figured letting apple growers keep more apples would mean they would grow even more! But Georgie skipped Econ 101 the day they talked about marginal utility. Alas, since he doesn't know this, he keeps waiting for everything to get better, by magic! But it doesn't, because he hero, St. Ronnie, quadrupled the national debt in just four years--fucking things up, proving magic money is bullshit. He missed that Billie actually understand economics and helped turn things around. But now Georgie has mucked it up again, and committed us to two wars. What to do?

Well, Georgie could devalue the apple with monetary policy. And he does. Yay! But in so doing, interest rates go very low, and since Georgie, who believes in magic money, doesn't do anything about his dismal fiscal policy, he's got nothing. Nowhere left to go. Recession.

Ooops.

So he begs Congress for a large stimulus, and runs from office, never looking back as Barry surveys the mess and rolls up his sleeves.

Apple flavored Kool-Aide...

That makes more sense to me than the report I saw that Clinton would be in the Eastwood slot before the President, on Thursday.  Bill will be the star of his night instead of an opening act, and if he should go off message, maybe with a suggestion that success or personal achievement shouldn't be a liability in America or something, the Obama staff will have time to adjust the text, rather than forcing the President to think on his feet.  The reverse is true as well.  If Bill puts in an angle that really resonates, it can be carried forward.

Just to be clear,no one on the left is against success or personal achievement....not that I am suggesting that this is what you are trying to sneak past us.

You don't put two stars of similar stature
on the same night. Bill isn't an opening
act and Obama wouldn't want to directly
follow Bill. Bill gets his night to work his
mojo and then Obama closes the convention
with his speech.

I'm not trying to sneak anything past, Mike.  Are you denying that Romney's time at Bain, and the personal wealth he built in that time, are held against him?  That resentment of the wealthy is part and parcel for many on the left these days?  Surely some on the left are still fighting the damn bedbugs they brought home from the Occupist campout, and cursing the Koch brothers for causing it all?  No?  Ok.  Cheaper than therapy.

Rationalize it to your heart's content, disagree with my statement all you like.  Maybe enough time has passed that the subject won't automatically get the thread tossed, and I'll link you up to the video of the President dissing brains and hard work as the core of success, in his, "you didn't build that," speech.

This election should be about a view that Americans need opportunity and jobs vs one that says not only do we need to rob Peter, to give Paul a handout, but that Peter deserves to get mugged anyway.

No,what I'm pointing out to you is that while Romney's time at Bain IS held against him it is more for the nature of that success, hence the "vulture capitalism" tag that I think his new pal Newt hung on him.
The left isn't upset with wealth per se...just wondering where our slice of the pie is.Or will you be arguing that the working mans slice hasn't been getting smaller and smaller when it is measured as a percentage of the whole ?
This election is about jobs, what the right doesn't get is that it is about what sort of jobs though.....folks are getting a little fed up with the crumbs that guys like Romney feel we should be grateful for.
No one denies a Steve Jobs his wealth,or a Zuckenberg his....or Buffet his...but that trickle down shit just isn't working Rich and only a fool could look at the growing wealth gap in this country and think everything is a -ok.

I completely agree with you Mike. If you look at the census data from table H-3 which gives the data for "mean household income received by each fifth and top 5 percent, all races", and you divide the amount earned by the top 5% by the amount earned by the bottom 20%, from 1967 to 1984, that amount is no greater than 17x. Meaning that the top 5% earned 17 dollars for every dollar the bottom 20% earned. During some of those years, it even drops down to 15.5x

After 1984, that multiplier starts to shoot up.
18x in 1985
19x between 1986 and 1992
23x between 1993 and 1996
24x between 1997 and 2000
25x between 2001 and 2004
26x between 2005 and 2006
25x between 2007 and 2009
26x in 2010.

This data is easily be found, just google the following key words:
census data table H

The gap just keeps getting bigger and bigger.
There is indeed class warfare going on Rich.....and we are getting creamed around these parts.
What I have never, ever(even when I was voting your side myself) been able to figure out is.......how does your side keep convincing large numbers of folks to cut their own throats by voting Republican.
It's the party of the rich......and seemingly a bunch of fools who think they are thisclose to being rich

I find it rather amusing that the NFL caved into the DNC request and moved the opening game of the 2012 season from Thursday to Wednesday so it wouldn't interfere with the President's speech... Wonder how Clinton likes that.

Obama? From what I read, yeah he's a fan... Clinton? No clue, but I can't imagine he'll like losing viewers to a football game.

Well, unlike some of people here. the NFL gets that competing with a US President. Honestly. As a party you say you undestand business, yet you habve to contemplate why advertisers don't want to spend an ineffective agvertising dollar like it's some dark mystery?
Now if you'll excuse me. my Governor, Linc Chafee is telling the Convention why he quit "Today's Republican Party".

Bill is good.  It almost makes me wish I could vote for him again.  Sure enough though, he got right off message, talking about working well with others.  CSpan did a cutaway shot to the First Lady, as Clinton was speaking a little praise for George W. Bush.  She didn't look happy.

I thought it WAS a good speech. And you are totally entitled  to the opinion he went off track. But I think you'll find some substantial difference with your opinion.

But I am glad you liked the speech.
