So, if my dad gave me a nickle to go to the store, I would inherit the earth?

Romney's old man had bigger nickles.

Romney's old man had bigger nickles.

Romney supported himself and his wife through college, Harvard business/law school and the birth of 2 of his children with that "nickel."

In todays dollars we're talking abut something in the 500k range at least.

Call it a gift it certainly looks like an early inheritance to me. It certainly made possible his giving away his official inheritance years later.

One thing you have to admire about Romney is that he received a large inheritance from his father which he promptly gave to charities. *All of it!* Not too many in "Washington " that would do that!

Which he didnt recieve until when? After he made his millions?

Nor was there any information about George Romney's financial legacy in the many obituaries for the Michigan luminary, who died in 1995 at age 88.

By 1995, Romney had already led Bain Capital for more than a decade, where shrewd investments made him millions.

Even if Mittens told Pops and his "informed friends" straight to their bare faces, that he`d flat out export more and more American jobs (to make a few millionaires into to billionaires).....weakening our economy further.......they`d STILL vote for Mitt.

There`s really not that much to discuss with folks like this.

"Even if?"
I don't believe he's ever said that, has he?

A loan.. a gift... a present. Inheritance means someone died.

The Romneys were NEVER poor, or even middle class. That is a fallacy. Their meager little first place was a private residence in Cambridge one of the most expensive cities on the east coast at the time.
But that stuff is unimportant. What is important is the claims he made about his tenure as Governor. Sure he headed off a 3 billion dollar deficit. And here's how he did it. He cut the budget for education drastically. And he cut off much of the state aid to cities and towns. The result was a stabilized income tax rate (I didn't say LOW) and an out of control firestorm of property tax hikes which continued to skyrocket until Gov Patrick started an easing program.
Oh, and some of the loopholes he encouraged out of state businesses to come and take advantage of were close so he could carry the banner of a fiscal reformer, which meant businesses left right behind him.
Coming from a state very much interwoven with Massachusetts, it is a puzzlement to me these very clear and simple truths about Romney are not held up to the national voter for scrutiny. We heard it on our local news nearly every day he was in office. Massachusetts voters had deep regrets about Romney very early in his term.

Funny, when the delegates voted "NO" overwhelmingly on a voice vote to to add God to the platform Bill Clinton didn't say anything about it in his speech. (You only do a voice vote when you know you're going to lose in hopes that "your guys" can make more noise than "the other guys".
So,.....they *don't* believe in God but,.....they *do* believe in "global warming" ( or whatever they're calling it this weekl).
And that O' Malley guy who was on a few speakers before Clinton was trying to get the crowd to yell out some of his key phrases. He sounded like one of those late night salesmen trying to sell you some Korean knives; "and how much do they cost? "THREE EASY PAYMENTS OF $9.99!!!"
And a few people have tried to compare job creation of Romney with others but you have to realize that for many years Mass had a *very low* unemployment rate of about 3-4% so it's hard putting people to work in that atsmophere when things are basically running at "full employment."
In those days you could walk in off the street with little to no experience and get a job paying $80 k per year.
In the 80's and 90's ALL my friends and family were making big bucks in Massachusetts.
And Bill Clinton presided over a roaring stock market!

Hmm, respect the office. Interesting thought. When the office was used to give the go ahead for water boarding and other tortures, it lost my respect. When the office was used to not even investigate the previous tenants concerning the water boarding and torture it lost my respect.

Respect needs to be earned, and shouldn't be blindly given. It's generally when people are just blindly following orders when atrocities happen.

Dissent does not have to be accompanied by disrespect.
In truth dissent is more effective when delivered by thoughtful intelligent, and yes respectful, language.

Fast reply

Stay on the topic of the OP and not each other. I am trying to be nice here but it looks like a few may need to have their posting privileges inhibited to get their attention.
