slvemike4u -> President Obama's speech (9/6/2012 8:49:13 PM)

In a shocking development President Obama accepted his parties nomination to run for re-election.
He followed that with a soaring example of Presidential oratory ,presenting a compelling case for the job he has done,the work that remains to be done,the stark contrast of choice offered to the electorate....A great speech,a great end to a successful convention.

Clinton was much better.  Of course, the President had to get his girls home on a school night.

I don't think he accomplished what he needed to do.

I'd be worried if you liked it.

We don't seem to communicate well, F.  First you thought I didn't like Clinton, when I do, now you seem to think I didn't like a speech where the President failed to accomplish something I didn't want him to accomplish.

I liked it just fine.  [;)]

Of course you don't.but that's okay....he would have had to turn water into wine to sway you [:)]

TheHeretic -> RE: President Obama's speech (9/6/2012 10:10:33 PM)

There was never a question of him swaying me, Mike.  He did that 8 years ago, and lost me again in the '08 campaign.

I'm a bit of a speech geek though, and I have watched a good number of his speeches over the last 5 years.  He gets lost without the script, and commits awful (you didn't build that) gaffes when he's off it.  Tonight, he hugged the script, and delivered it well, but he needed to soar, and didn't.  He needed a message that would resonate in the disillusioned, and I don't think that wasn't there either.

Funny how no one can remember any gaffs.....

The president was spot on with his "you didn`t build that" comments.....

Speech geek maybe.......comprehension geek not really.

Winterapple -> RE: President Obama's speech (9/6/2012 10:54:20 PM)

I thought it was a good speech, well delivered,
made the points it needed to make and
closed the convention well. I think the
convention was a success and offered
real stuff for the viewer to think about.

I think Clinton's speech was better and
doubly effective. Bill was at his most
glowing and no one outglows Bill at
his most glowing. Bill was making the
case for Obama and the party and he
did that. That's what he was there to
do.

I thought it was wise Obama didn't
soar to the highest rafters. I was
hoping he wouldn't. A more grounded
speech was needed and that's what he
gave.

Rubio gave the best speech at the
Republican convention. I thought
Mitt did a good job with his speech
though it lacked anything of substance
for the most part.

LOL.  I dunno.  Comparing his 129 bowling score to Special Olympics was pretty good.

tweakabelle -> RE: President Obama's speech (9/6/2012 11:51:33 PM)

I've neither read nor heard the speech, but the muted tones of TH's remarks tells me that Obama did everything he needed to do.

subrob1967 -> RE: President Obama's speech (9/6/2012 11:54:52 PM)

Fourth and inches and Obama fumbled in the backfield... Amazingly even the woman on ABC's World News Tonight said it was a ground rule double, and not the Home Run she hoped for.

Today Obama can try to once again explain  another dismal jobs report.

Lucylastic -> RE: President Obama's speech (9/7/2012 6:36:45 AM)

jobs were created! not lost, rate is 8.1..now I havent seen the U6 numbers yet, but what would make you happy???
LOL forget it, I know what would make you happy
Have you wondered how Romneys claims to add 12 million jobs in 4 years will work should he buy the election??????
Just seen the U6 number is under 15%.(14.7% ....yseasonally adjusted)
which is ALSO a DECREASE
Edited to add u6 numbers
I agree Tazzy.*to your answer below*

tazzygirl -> RE: President Obama's speech (9/7/2012 6:38:48 AM)

From reports, the numbers will improve again next month if they stay on the pace set.

What utter bullshit.

The presidents aides understood they could never re-create the power of the past but hoped to convince voters that more has been done than commonly recognized. The “promises kept” theme was intended to address the same swing voters Mr. Romney sought last week to win over.

Mr. Obama directly acknowledged the disappointments. “While I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together, I’m far more mindful of my own failings,” he said. But he added, “I have never been more hopeful about America, not because I think I have all the answers, not because I’m naïve about the magnitude of our challenges. I’m hopeful because of you.”

The NYT article even stated that Mr. Biden was left to take the tougher shots at Mr. Romney, the former head of the private equity firm Bain Capital and former governor of Massachusetts.

I was stunned. This is a man who gave one of the great speeches of our time in 2004, and he gave one of the emptiest speeches I have ever heard on a national stage. Yes, it had cadence, and yes, there were deceptions in it, but that is not what is so striking about it. There was nothing in it. - CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER

There isn't any way to spin this one; I looked, I studied, I read it twice, three, four times.

The reason the unemployment rate "edged down" is that 1.483 million people gave up and exited the workforce! The Department of Labor Lies doesn't count anyone who gives up any longer, so the "unemployment rate" is claimed to have decreased.

But what's worse is that there were a net 868,000 fewer people with jobs in August over July, despite there being 212,000 more people of working age in the population. That's right -- net-on-net over one million fewer people (adjusted for population change) were working last month.

If you were wondering why President Obama looked like an elephant had rammed him last night while he was on the podium and his usual "nose in the air" attitude was a bit more-subdued than usual, this is probably the reason.

Here the charts.

Also, Zerohedge reports that the employment rate for men is lowest since 1948 at 69.9%.
