Sorry the U6 numbers dont prove your case. the numbers have decreased...
and I used the basic numbers not a spin.... Im sure you can find proof for me from the BLS site not some "conservative market website"
as I have done for quite some time.... and they are the "numbers used by "your link" (thanks to MsTazzy for the edumacation three years ago)
BTW Krauthammer, is for your side, I dont give a rats ass what he has to say, he has as much "credibility" with me as rush limbaugh, ann coulter and glen beck.

This reminds me of the joke about the blond who, upon being told she has a negative bank balance, states that's impossible as she still has checks left.

What's even funnier is the 'conservative market' site linked above, he voted FOR Obama in '08. How conservative.

The reason the unemployment rate "edged down" is that 1.483 million people gave up and exited the workforce! The Department of Labor Lies doesn't count anyone who gives up any longer, so the "unemployment rate" is claimed to have decreased.

I never understood that. How does the DOL know that people have given up looking for a job? Do they go down to Washington waving a white flag? 1.483 million white flags? And exited the workforce? Where's the door? Or do they just throw themselves on their swords? 1.483 million bloody swords? I'm beginning to think the "give up" is a myth. No, I believe people don't EXIT the workforce until they retire, hit the lottery, or die.

servantforuse -> RE: President Obama's speech (9/7/2012 8:24:05 AM)

In August 96,000 found employment. 368,000 dropped off the charts and are no longer looking for a job. Those are not good numbers.

If anyone thinks that these numbers are good news, tune into either CNBC or FOX Business. These two ( very credible ) business stations are not suger coating these dismal numbers.

No insult at all. I'm just not going to spoon feed you your way. It's neither my obligation nor my responsibility. I noticed though that instead of where his numbers are wrong you merely stated Im sure you can find proof for me from the BLS site not some "conservative market website" as I have done for quite some time. I've found his math to actually be quite good.

But hey, if you prefer strictly the BLS numbers, have at it. Enjoy. Rejoice. Unemployment dropped to 8.1%.

Colbert: 'Human weather balloon' Limbaugh thinks Obama controls the weather

Thursday on “The Colbert Report,” host Stephen Colbert talked about the Democratic National Convention’s decision to move President Barack Obama’s speech accepting his party’s nomination indoors because of the threat of severe weather.

“Folks, tonight is the last night of the ‘Democratic National Stroke-Fest,’” joked Colbert. “The highlight tonight, of course, is President Obama’s big speech where he will accept his party’s nomination for a second term. Now, I haven’t seen this speech, but I can tell you that it’s a failure, not because of what he said, but where he said it.”

Because of the threat of heavy rain and lightning, convention organizers made the decision to move the third night of the celebrations indoors, rather than in Charlotte’s Bank of America stadium. Anti-Obama pundits immediately began to claim that the Democrats moved the speech to the much smaller venue because ticket sales have been disappointing.

Fox News mainstay Charles Krauthammer went so far as to claim that the Democratic party has “known for months what the weather would be.”

Colbert agreed, “I mean, anybody can go online to weather.com,” he said, “and see the 100-day forecast.”

Dubbing the hubbub “Avoiding Water-Gate,” Colbert pointed out that this was not Obama’s first run-in with the weather.

“Radio host and human weather balloon Rush Limbaugh blew the lid off of this last week when Hurricane Isaac threatened the GOP convention,” he said, then played a clip of Limbaugh saying, “The National Hurricane Center is Obama,” and accusing the administration of colluding with weather agencies to drive people away from the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida.

“Just connect the dots, folks, okay?” Colbert instructed, counting off the points on his fingers. “One: Obama can make and/or is a Hurricane. Two: He can predict the weather months in advance. And three: I already had this finger up and I can’t put it back.”

http://portalseven.com/employment/unemployment_rate_u6.jsp

U6 numbers are in, Lucy (you are welcome, btw)

14.7 for August. Down from 15.0 in July.

And, for those who dont know what numbers the U6 actually include.

The U6 unemployment rate counts not only people without work seeking full-time employment (the more familiar U-3 rate), but also counts "marginally attached workers and those working part-time for economic reasons." Note that some of these part-time workers counted as employed by U-3 could be working as little as an hour a week. And the "marginally attached workers" include those who have gotten discouraged and stopped looking, but still want to work. The age considered for this calculation is 16 years and over

This is the only number that truly counts.

Tea party hero Rick Santelli predicts lower unemployment under Obama

CNBC analyst Rick Santelli’s Wall Street friends didn’t sound very happy Friday morning when he predicted that America’s jobs outlook would only improve between now and the election. But that’s what he said, and it sounded like he’s sticking to it.

“Hey, I want to make a prediction for the Friday before the election number, right now,” Santelli said, reacting to Friday’s jobs report. “7.9 on unemployment rate. I wanna make it right now. Right now.”

“Oh come on,” CNBC “Squawk Box” co-anchor Andrew Ross Sorkin said. ‘That’s such a ridiculous silliness. That’s silliness.”

“I didn’t give a reason!” Santelli yelped, seeming to realize he’d just stepped on a few toes. “Don’t put words in my mouth!”

The anchors spent the rest of the segment discussing whether the improving jobs figures are part of a conspiracy to help re-elect Obama, which former Obama economist Austan Goolsbee objected to.

“Remember 2004?” he asked. “We had month after month of not very good numbers, and then the Friday before the election there was a huge positive number of job growth, and everybody said, ‘What does this mean? How did this happen?’ That’s the closest thing you’ve got to evidence.”

Santelli seemed wary of suggesting the Obama administration has anything to do with the improving jobs outlook, real or fabricated, even though jobs always weigh more heavily on a president than he should be blamed or credited for. And for good reason: his prediction is especially interesting given his stature as a tea party hero.

...For Santelli to predict that unemployment will continue to improve under Obama may come as a bitter pill to many tea party enthusiasts, but his words still ring of relief to most American workers. Unfortunately, that relief isn’t entirely born out by the numbers: while the Bureau of Labor Statistics says that more than 4.5 million jobs have been added to the private sector since the recession hit bottom and began rolling back, that hasn’t driven down the total unemployment rate because just about as many government jobs have been lost.

But with every marginal improvement, political hay is made. If Santelli is correct and the unemployment rate hits 7.9 percent right before the election, it will be the exact same rate the nation faced the day Obama took office — and that’s likely to be seen as quite the accomplishment considering the circumstances he faced.

The U6 numbers don't take into account those who have aged out of the insurance. They only count how many checks they are sending out each week. There are thousands out there whose benefits have expired.

tazzygirl -> RE: President Obama's speech (9/7/2012 9:59:32 AM)

Does that truly matter since all everyone screams about are the U3 numbers? I prefer U6. However, if the right is going to yell about how unemployment is rising or not falling, then they should accept those numbers based upon the same measures.

quote:

U5:
This augments U4 by including marginally-attached workers to the unemployment rate calculation. Marginally attached workers are potential workers who have given up seeking employment for various reasons. One of these reasons is that the workers believe such effort would be futile, which places them in the discouraged worker category. Those who have other reasons for not seeking employment are placed in the broader marginally-attached workers category. The addition of marginally-attached workers adds a few more tenths of a percentage point to the official unemployment rate.

Now, U6 includes U5 numbers.

Unless you are seeking work, you dont get a check.

I'd be worried if you liked it.

We don't seem to communicate well, F.  First you thought I didn't like Clinton, when I do, now you seem to think I didn't like a speech where the President failed to accomplish something I didn't want him to accomplish.

I liked it just fine.  [;)]

When it's ALWAYS someone else who misunderstands/miscommunicates perhaps it's time to start looking at home.
But it's all good. It's not like you bother me or anything like that.[:D]

Joe Scarborough On Obama's DNC Speech: 'Game, Set, Match' For Democrats

Joe Scarborough is declaring Barack Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention an overwhelming victory for the president and the Democratic party.

Obama accepted the 2012 Democratic nomination Thursday night. His address received mixed reactions — most agreed that he gave a solid speech, but were not ecstatic as they were after Michelle Obama and Bill Clinton spoke.

On Friday morning, Scarborough had nothing but positive things to say about Obama's performance. "We were 10 minutes into the president's speech last night... and I just sat there thinking, 'game, set, match, the Democrats have trounced the Republicans in these conventions,'" he recalled.

He said that "Obama connected himself with the American Dream for the first time" at the convention, and that his speech was "obviously so much better than everybody at Tampa."

Scarborough continued to take shots at Romney while praising Obama's speech. "As far as substance... [Obama] said nothing but he said nothing so much better than Mitt Romney said nothing," he remarked, to the applause of the live audience.

He also threw in accolades for Michelle Obama, Joe Biden and Bill Clinton at the DNC.

"I mean how overshadowed does Mitt Romney look right now? How terrible, how flat, how dull does the Tampa convention look right now?" Scarborough said. "Republicans blew it... in part it has to do with the fact that we nominated a candidate... that our base wasn't excited about."
