The problem is, the GOP thought that the war against the ACA would prove so an issue, that the offer to repeal it alone would win votes. I see why some are upset by the "requirement" to have insurance, but in many ways, they already have it. A hospital, by law, can not turn you away of you have a life threatening issue. All this new insurance does is make sure people can get the rest of the care they need. If you didn't require it, then emergency room treatments for the common cold would still be as poppular (and expensive) as today. In effect, making sure everyone has insurance, is a cost save. It increases the size of the overall pool of people, and guarantees healthcare, not prevents it.
