DarkSteven -> GOP rushes to criticize Obama after Libyan embassy official killed (9/12/2012 6:40:36 AM)

in spite of the facts.

1. The statement was not issued by Obama despite the GOP stating it was.

2. Obama's actual statement condemned the attackers.

3. The GOP claimed that the statement followed the attacks instead of preceding them: "It's disgraceful that the Obama Administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.”

4. While the GOP did in fact follow the commitment to keeping 9/11 free of politics, them following up by sending out a lie at 12:01 AM 9/12 is kinds disingenuous.

TheHeretic -> RE: GOP rushes to criticize Obama after Libyan embassy official killed (9/12/2012 6:57:21 AM)

The US Ambassador was murdered on 9/11, Steve. An Embassy in another country had the our flag torn down, and an al Qaida flag flag raised to replace it. Yeah. That's worth making a stink over.

I've gotta work. It will be interesting to see where this conversation is, when I get home.

mnottertail -> RE: GOP rushes to criticize Obama after Libyan embassy official killed (9/12/2012 7:07:52 AM)

Yeah, fuck the GOP, they want to chickenhawk, and they are gonna end up being shit out on a stump and hatched out in the sun on this one.

Marc2b -> RE: GOP rushes to criticize Obama after Libyan embassy official killed (9/12/2012 7:51:14 AM)

That's one of the problems with being a reflexive ideologue. You are so certain that the world operates according to your preconceived notions, you don't take the time to get all of your facts straight and reflect a little before opening your mouth.

That being said, I do find the Cairo Embassy's statement to be rather wimpy. The issue here is not the content of some asshole's speech about Islam or Muhammad or whatever, but the right of people to free speech regardless of whether or not it offends anyone. It is also about the right of people not to be murdered by intolerant religious fanatics because they are offended by what someone else said thousands of miles away.

In the Cairo Embassy's defense, however, I will grant that it is easier to be brave when you are not the one surrounded by intolerant religious fanatics.

Lucylastic -> RE: GOP rushes to criticize Obama after Libyan embassy official killed (9/12/2012 8:01:34 AM)

The statement from the Cairo mission was issued before the death of an American was reported, not afterward, a fact that wasn't clear when Romney pushed out a statement but did become clear as the dust settled on a complicated and developing international situation.

Over the top: Yesterday we noted that Mitt Romney, down in the polls after the convention, was throwing the kitchen sink at President Obama. Little did we know the kitchen sink would include -- on the anniversary of 9/11 -- one of the most over-the-top and (it turns out) incorrect attacks of the general election campaign. Last night after 10:00 pm ET, Romney released a statement on the attacks on the U.S. embassies in Egypt and Libya. After saying he was “outraged” by these attacks and the death of an American consulate worker, Romney said, “It's disgraceful that the Obama administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.”
Yet after learning every piece of new information about those the attacks, the Romney statement looks worse and worse -- and simply off-key.
First, Romney was referring to a statement that the U.S. embassy in Egypt issued condemning the “efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims.”
But that embassy statement, which the White House has distanced itself from, was in reference to an anti-Islam movie and anti-Islam pastor Terry Jones, and it came out BEFORE the embassy attacks began.
Then this morning, we learned that the U.S. ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens, and others died in one of the attacks.

Pretty desperate of our cons and typical of them too, that they`ll try to exploit a tragedy like this. Also typical....lie about it.....

The above post is from the Left alternate universe. Lots of words to spin something very simple.

The Embassy did indeed issue the statement before the attack. It was the Obama's administration response to clear threats already made prior to the attack that encouraged the attack. You see, instead of speaking of strength and a quick response to anyone who would attack American interests, Obama, through the Embassy, issued a weak response and encouraged the attack. This is what Romney said and meant. It is the left who filters this through an alternate Obama universe funnel.

Romney, nor anyone else, seperates the Embassy (The State Department under Hillary) from Obama as the Left is attempting to do now to distance Obama from the statement issued from the Embassy in order to deflect critics.

There are strong parallels to the Democratic President Carter administration's known weakness in American Power projection which resulted in Iran attacking our Embassy there under Carter's watch and like Carter, Obama's response is weak to pre-attack threats and the result will be the same, attacks on our interests and then a strong President voted into office just as Reagan was voted into office at Carter's defeat which resulted in Iran immediately releasing the Embassy prisoners.

Nice try, though.

Sure it was. The embassy is run by Hillary and Hillary reports to Obama. Obama is President. The buck stops with the President or (either) the President has lost control. You decide. The spin stops here.

Sooo, we have 2 alternate universes here. One that is based on verifiable facts and the other that is based on Acid-laced Koolaid from Mr Limbaugh.

So the President, writes every statement, by every embassy in the world?

Who`s spinning?

The only one`s who buy that are drinking kool-aid......normal folks will be disgusted by it.

Who blames themselves for not shooting off enough guns in order to preserve peace...?

Wait. Never mind. Wrong country.

Do not pretend Presidents must actually write all statements from their Administration to be responsible for them. I said Obama is President, the buck either stops there or he has no control, you decide. It's one or the other.

Simplistic expanations from a mind that isnt exactly working on a complex level today.

If you had a dog and he escaped because a kid left the door unlatched and crapped on the neighbor's porch, did you do it? Probably not

Are you responsible for it? Yes

Do you have 'no control' over the animal?[8|]

Seriously, an advanced 6th grader could see thru your spin.

Suppose you preferred the Reagan model. Claim you got the hostages released, went on to get hundreds of marines killed in lebanon and then proceed to "free" Grenada.....Yeah, that is the President I want lol

This blunder, is a big`n.......huge......

And could turn out to be Mitt`s October surprise........delivered a little early.....[:D]

Mocking our embassy staff, while it`s under fire, lying about the facts and shooting off wildly from the hip.....

The ONLY other cons to back Mitt are Sarah Palin and that RNC chairman w/ the French sounding name.

If this was Mitt`s 17th fuck-up .......it might not be as damaging.....or noticed much.....

But it`s Mitt`s 317th fuck-up..................................................and EVERYONE is paying attention and it is going to hurt him with swing voters.
