This silly poll was directly inspired by a conversation I had with my Dad while he was visiting about the evils of cilantro. In the rest of the world it's called coriander.. and we both hate it. It tastes like a cool soap to me. Apparently, it's genetic to dislike it.

Ew. EWWWW.

But, like so many EW flavours, I am working on it. In minimal amounts, I am able to interpret the taste as 'brightness'.

I gather that how the taste is perceived is genetic, so I'll never know what it tastes like to the people that LOVE it. It must be spectacular.

Oh it is terrible.. and I swear, ALL Californian food must be carefully inspected, because the cilantro sympathisers try to sneak it in everything!!!!!

IT IS A CONSPIRACY!

I LOVE cilantro.

Picture a burrito stuffed with tofu (or eggs, I suppose), black beans, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, and a fabulous cilantro paste.

Cilantro sprinkled on chili. It wouldn't be the same without it. Or a pasta salad.

Big hunks of it are a little hard to take, but a little bit goes a long way for me.

I like it fresh on foods cooked that day. In salsa over night... get that shit away from me!

Mexican foods are one of my specialties... and I don't often use cilantro as we like left overs.

I stopped at one of those mexican chains after work one night...EVERY salsa but one had cilantro, the rice had cilantro, it was endless! Thank goodness I could get carnitas with hot sauce. Because even both varieties of beans had flippin cilantro!

Why not just offer liquid dish soap as a condiment?

It makes me sick. Someone had brought a dip with it in it and I loved the taste, but my stomach did not like it. Went home early that day.

Lizard loves it in her beans.

I used to hate it. Now I love it. I wonder how that factors in with genetics.

Funny. I didn't even know it. Then moved to a place they used cilantro in EVERYTHING. I hated. After a few years, I learned to love it. Might be an acquired taste.

I love cilantro. There are a ton of authentic Mexican restaurants all around me and cilantro is in every single dish. But I don't mind.

Fucking hate it. Won't allow it in the house and won't eat anything with it.

Vile weed.

Okay, I am surprised how vehement people are that dislike cilantro, I never realized what a polarizing herb it was.

I love cilantro. It's the seed of the plant that is coriander.

I grew some this summer but due to the to hot, dry weather we had, most of it went to seed. I'm not sure how to separate the seed from the leaf. I have what I harvested drying somewhere. . . .

Coriander is so yummy... not even my guinea pig would eat cilantro when I bought it by mistake.
