As you know Politesub we agree on Israel... at least when it comes to the settlements and peace negotiations…But please don’t tell me you agree with Tweak and her racists views on Jews and this silly bit about Zionist lobbies and AIPAC controlling US policy.

I would hate to loose the respect I have for you.

Butch

AIPAC dont hold control over US policy Butch. That said, they do hold huge amounts of influence inside Washington (Both parties) and have done so since the 70s.

It will be interesting to see some of my supposed "racists (sic) views on Jews". Perhaps some evidence can be produced to support this wild allegation.

Of course it is impossible that any such evidence will be produced - I have never expressed any view - positive negative or whatever - on Jews, the Jewish race or the Jewish religion. Apparently kd knows more about my views than I do.

So I'll be very interested to discover what my views are supposed to be.

never mind

Always good to have a list of items to avoid mentioning.

^^ This.

Hate is generally born of ignorance. Spending a few million on BBC Arabia (or whats left of it since most staff got head hunted to found AlJ) would save far more lives than a new carrier or bombing some village or sending our troops to a foreign land to risk life and limb for a badly lead and conducted war.

I certainly think that making a much greater investment in communication in the middle esast would help in the long run. what kind of timeframe would you say it would take to develop sufficient trust?

Ohhh, about as long as it would take to bring our troops home, I think.

As long as it would take to bring our troops home, convert to Islam, adopt sharia law and bomb Isreal into the stone ages.

Yes. Getting Western armies out of the ME is the first and most critical step. Until this happens, it doesn't really matter what else is done, it's not going to deliver any worthwhile results.

My experience, from travelling in many parts of Asia, is that people want to like the West but we make it very difficult for them. Many aspects of Western life are valued and respected eg. our freedoms, lack of corruption, democracies, rule of law, quality of education, technologies etc.

However, as long as Western armies continue to occupy Muslim lands, and the people there are confronted by nightly images of carnage and bloodshed from Palestine to Afghanistan, this issue will remain front and centre in their minds - just as it would in our minds if the roles were reversed.

Just maybe the western armies are there BECAUSE of the carnage and bloodshed not the cause of it.

Ya, just maybe not.

Could be...maybe somewhere in between as is usually the case....nothing is ever simple when it comes to a clashing of cultures.

Maybe there is hope after all...at least Here
