Hate is generally born of ignorance. Spending a few million on BBC Arabia (or whats left of it since most staff got head hunted to found AlJ) would save far more lives than a new carrier or bombing some village or sending our troops to a foreign land to risk life and limb for a badly lead and conducted war.

Yes. Getting Western armies out of the ME is the first and most critical step. Until this happens, it doesn't really matter what else is done, it's not going to deliver any worthwhile results.
My experience, from travelling in many parts of Asia, is that people want to like the West but we make it very difficult for them. Many aspects of Western life are valued and respected eg. our freedoms, lack of corruption, democracies, rule of law, quality of education, technologies etc.
However, as long as Western armies continue to occupy Muslim lands, and the people there are confronted by nightly images of carnage and bloodshed from Palestine to Afghanistan, this issue will remain front and centre in their minds - just as it would in our minds if the roles were reversed.
