America, FUCK YEAH!

Sorry leeches, the well is dry, the vault is empty, and the printing press is out of ink... Gonna have to move to Europe if you wanna keep feeding off of the tax payer.

If the well is dry, then how come GE and Westinghouse and Newport News Shipyard and Boeing and Lock-Mart and GM are still getting paid?

GOP Senators blocked a vote on the Veterans Job Corps bill proposed by Democratic Senator Patty Murray on the grounds that it violated a cap on spending agreed to by Congress last year, even though the bill's cost was fully offset by new revenues.

What a bunch of ingrates those veterans are! We, the American taxpayers, gave them three meals a day, housed them, gave them free medical and dental care, gave them free international travel to and from exotic foreign locales, gave them free weapons and ammo instead of deducting the cost from their over-inflated monthly paychecks, gave them artificial limbs to replace the real ones they lost in battle - and now they want more of our tax money to help them get civilian jobs? They should be happy we gave them the opportunity to serve their country - hell, they should have done it for free!

While we're at it, we should close down all those Veterans Administration hospitals and clinics - after all, they're just a drain on the Treasury and a waste of taxpayer's money. And those wasteful military pensions - after all, those military retirees are just moochers and not job producers.

My god that is truly disgusting. A new low for them. I thought Romney had capped it off......Was I ever wrong...

Sorry, but I'm not automatically for this. We need to start considering which expenses are absolutely necessary and which are nice to have. This one isn't absolutely necessary, so it should be back burnered until a comprehensive bill comes together which restrains discretionary funding.

So, you are basically saying "sorry dumbass, you signed up for the Military, not me. Don't ask me to offer you anything until I can make sure I am ok?"

That about sum it up DS?

SpaceSpank -> RE: GOP Senators take stand against moochers (9/20/2012 5:43:56 AM)

I agree with what I believe is DS's point.

There ARE programs that cover this already. That they don't work as they should doesn't mean you should add another one on top of it, just adjust the one that is there already. So adding something that is already covered is not going to fix the underlying issue, and it's not going to help our real expenditure issues paying twice for the same thing.

They should be looking to overhaul things that don't work in general, not just this one. Adding, removing, and changing parts as needed. I'd be all for passing this if it was going to help and there was a stipulation that they would look at more comprehensive review of all relevant aspects in the not too distant future. Maybe that way they could start fixing things.

Of course that doesn't mean they would. It could still get blocked, or back burnered into oblivion till it suited the political fancy of the day to dust it off and start talking about it again.

It points out the great divide doesn't it?  Bush was president for 8 years and started the wars with his republican colleagues in the legislature, they could have solved it since 2001.

Why are they ignoring it now so close to the election?

SpaceSpank -> RE: GOP Senators take stand against moochers (9/20/2012 6:14:04 AM)

Unfortunately it's an artificial divide.

If there was real sentiment behind it compromise could be reached. But when policy is dictated on the basis of "be against what the other guy is for" it means there's not really a chance to work things out until they all get their heads out of their asses.

Makes me wish I could take the whole lot of them and throw them in a pit and start rationing down supplies as time goes on. Either they sit down and start seriously looking to fix the issues... or they can all kill each other. Either way the country comes out better.

fucktoyprincess -> RE: GOP Senators take stand against moochers (9/20/2012 6:50:44 AM)

Yes, well you realize that veterans are part of the 47% Romney was referring to....

So I will bite. What is already there that covers this? And, don't we owe them to try everything we can even if it is duplication? Or are you fine with our heroes coming back to being told to go fuck themselves if they need help......Typical Conservative attitude

To bad the GOP does not take this train of thought when it comes to giving multi billion dollar corporate donors new tax breaks, as there are already tax breaks in place

subspaceseven -> RE: GOP Senators take stand against moochers (9/20/2012 10:08:21 AM)

Really, last time I checked the President cannot give away one penny, the purse strings are controlled by the GOP led House, so it appears Boner just likes to take it, maybe that is why him and cantor can't get "behind" anything together, they both want to be in front on the receiving end

Thank you for not pandering for votes and political favor. It's time America start viewing the way we behave a bit more adult like. As noble a cause as ourvets, who I am one of, if we default and in a sense go bankrupt, we'll loose a lot more than a Vet program or two.

This bill served no real purpose other than to create political cannon fodder, imho.

This veteran spoke with the Veteran Advisor at the state career center and the only (marginally) useful thing he had to say was to sign up on the state job site, which I already knew from the career center orientation.

Additionally, there are more programs for brand new vets than older vets, and there are a lot more of us.

Also, getting medical care for female-specific issues has been really fucking difficult.

I read the text of the bill. I'm for it. That said, I'm not at all suprised that the Do Nothing Congress, once again.. did nothing except obstruct a bill that both sides agree is a good bill and goes a long way to helping our vets. I hope that others understand it's not the bill which got knocked.. it was technical procedure. The GOP is considering this a revenues bill (it's not) and as such it was supposed to initiate in the House. It did not, so the GOP blocked the ability of anyone to vote on it via a .. dubious technicality.

I hear a few more post offices got names though. Good on them. [8|]

Yanno, teabaggers, you can fuck with the teachers and insure your kids recieve a substandard education....that loses their future.

But fuckin with veterans, and starting wars by low bid with disgruntled workers defending your country who know they are gonna get fucked............well let me put this another way  you better get them illegal mexicans rounded up and size them for jump boots.

Airport bathroom mouthing strong defense teabaggers aint just a matter of throwing money at generals.

subspaceseven -> RE: GOP Senators take stand against moochers (9/20/2012 7:14:31 PM)

Them dam post offices needing names...top of the list of what working Americans are concerned about, not the war, not the economy, not our public education, not healthcare, not jobs...NAME those DAM post offices ...yea that is the job we elected them to do way to go GOP run House..cause you have only been looking out for the people...not what that one speech saying "the only thing we care about is making Obama a one term president", way back in 2009 no you have been voting for what is best for the country, not yourselfs

Nothing about *ending* all foreign aid?

Lucylastic -> RE: GOP Senators take stand against moochers (9/21/2012 7:28:30 AM)

Here's what it would have done, via The Hill:

The Veterans Jobs Corp Act would have created new job-training programs to help veterans find work in targeted fields such as national park conservation, historic preservation projects, police work and firefighting, among others.

Those are jobs we need, and jobs veterans need. But the Senate fell 2 votes short of the usual Senate supermajority they need to pass anything these days, despite Senators Snowe, Brown, Collins, Heller, and Murkowski voting with the Democrats.

The galling part is that the budget isn't an issue. The bill was fully paid for and didn't initiate new spending, and once again included Republican ideas. Still, no dice.

Jon Stewart goes after Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) for blocking veterans jobs bill

Last night, Jon Stewart went after Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) for his role in successfully filibustering the veterans jobs bill.

The unemployment rate for veterans, 11%, three percent higher than the general population. Luckily, the Senate today is taking up a bill that would help get jobs for the over 700,000 veterans currently out of work.

WILLIE GEIST (9/20/2012): On Capitol Hill, legislation aimed at putting the nation's veterans back to work has been blocked in the Senate.

Oh, right! I forgot, it's time for our recurring segment, Oh Right, Because Doing Something Would Have... The... Ugh.

Yes, the Senate voted on a bill that would provide a billion dollars to veterans to help them get jobs in law enforcement, fire departments, and/or federal lands. The bill was affirmed by 58 Senators, rejected by only 40, thus failing to pass, because apparently in Senate world, 58-40 is a losing score, and you eat out of your anus and shit out of your ears.

Leading the charge against America's fighting men, Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn, who opposed it on grounds of fiscal responsibility

SEN. TOM COBURN, R-OK (9/20/2012): If in fact we're going to start addressing the bigger economic problems of this country, you gotta quit playing felonious accounting with what you're doing, which is exactly what that bill did. ... It's exactly the same kind of — pardon my word — crap that Congress has done for years.

That's right, this bill is felonious crap. By the way, also the name of my jazz fusion band back in high school.

The Senator and some of his colleagues felt that the proposed methods of paying for this bill — imposing penalties on Medicare providers who'd been delinquent on taxes — was a less than solid fiscal foundation. Just out of curiosity, I'm just spitballin' here, how did we pay for the actual wars that made these individuals veterans who now need jobs?

NEWS REPORT (2/23/2009): ... engaging in accounting gimmicks over the years, leaving big ticket items like war spending out of official budgets.

Oh right! By not paying for them! At all! We didn't even put the wars on layaway, and pay them down a little bit at a time, only taking the wars home when we're done with them. Of course we could have funded it, but that would've been wrong for America.

Obviously, Senator Coburn was not in the Senate when the war began, but I'm sure the minute he got there, he brought the fiscal integrity he's famous for to even the supplemental war funding bills.

SEN. TOM COBURN, R-OK (3/30/2007): The Congress has taken a vacation ... while we haven't passed a supplemental for our troops. The American people ought to be outraged that we would leave here before we've taken care of our troops. I think it's unconscionable.

What kind of felonious crap...?

So once again, $800 billion dollars, unfunded, for war. A billion dollars, but paid for in a way you aren't crazy about to help the guys who fought the war get jobs afterwards? We're not made out of money, people. And that's why... Oh Right, Because Doing Something Would Have... The... Ugh.

There are already SIX Veterans Jobs/Retraining Programs that NOBODY can say how well they work. This Program is modeled on the Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Projects Authority and would consist of make-work jobs picking up trash and planting trees and taking care of Veterans Cemeteries (which is already being done by the Veterans Groups themselves) and some "Helper" jobs in Hospitals and Firehouses. Mind you, all this is Funded for ONE Year with more of the money going to Federal Employees than to the alleged "Workers". AND the Funding is coming out of the Veterans Administration Budget for other Programs.

Thank You, but NO Thank You.
