Complaining about the 16 trillion dollar deficit and then a few posts later supporting group troops in IRAN is indeed some spin.

I do suppose my sarcasm is wasted on someone that envisions themself in the soup line or someone that isn't really concerned about a soup line to begin with. Which are you? Just how do you see my snide little comment as “support” for troops in Iran? Do you work on the Hannity writing staff? Just making shit up as you go, aye?

Listen, I'm just going to say this one last time. The Senate Dems knew this was a no-where bill at this time and that is exactly why they introduced it. It was all about the politics. Harry Reid is a Con-Artist and that's it. There is a thousand ways you could do this very same thing and not have to introduce News Wire Fodder and Fluff. Adjust the Parks Services Budget and mandate they hire only Vets. Ohhhh wait a minute, how long before the ACLU comes out and challenges a law or mandate that is only set aside for a certain few. More money spent defending that I guess.

Here's the easiest way to help a young Vet, I used to counsel my troops getting out at their ETS. Make sure you have a job before you leave one. Don't ETS to a home front that is jobless or has no jobs below your skill level. No career is perfect everyday, but life is what you make it.

If a person quits working in the Police or Fire Services we don't fabricate make believe jobs for them. Don't they matter? Aren't they "hero's" as well?

Once upon a time, one of the few segments of young American males that was able to stand on his own and didn't except a nanny-type to hold his hand was the American Vet. You Liberals won't be happy until you've managed to guilt the entire country into thinking they owe you a vote as opposed to actually earning their vote through your own merit. I'm a Vet stop trying to bribe me.

I notice you bleeding heart types have completely blown off my reasoning for the excess Vet Unemployment. Even for you few here it's more about making the GOP look bad than it is about helping the Vets. Shame on you, hypocrisy looks good on no one, left or right.

This country is broke. It's time we stopped spending the money the frivolous ways we do; and you know it, I know it and to ignore it to garner support where you had none before is disingenuous and I'm offended that you think I'm dumb enough to buy your shit.

FFS, Vote Libertarian.

I countered your anecdote about young vets not wanting to return to factory work etc with my own anecdote about indeed returning to factory work, and then provided an article that sourced Ryan Gallucci, deputy legislative director for the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Washington.

I need to clarify two things above:

1. Group troops was a typo - I meant ground troops.

2. I used "support" not as "support the troops" but "support the idea of sending ground troops to Iran" which is what you appear to be doing here:

quote:

We've got tons of Truck Drivers, Engineers, Infantrymen and other capable types that can get out and clean up these federal and state properties and when Iran wigs out we don't have to worry about a draft, we just have them trade in their shovel ready projects for combat operations.

How's that for some spin???

The (lack of) feasibility of a ground war in Iran is the subject for another thread.

Regarding soup lines - I do not envision myself in a soup line but in the kitchen chopping vegetables.

And you are chopping those vegatables a little fast, gonna have to cite you for that.

My church does an extra push to help the homeless during the five coldest weeks of the winter. I signed up today to help cook meals. Thanks for the nudge.

When my husband went into the reserves, he changed specialties into CE (Civil Engineering.) Cross training is already an option. These people want OUT of the military. Throwing a reenlistment bonus at me would not have kept me in. I also wouldn't have been fooled by "maintain parks in the US" because I know the same skills transfer to maintaining flight lines that are under fire.

So YOU wanted out, just not off the teat.

Why do you feel that serving in the military is "living off of the teat"?

quote:

Really, so your answer is turning our troops into dependents of the nanny state.

Please define this "nanny state" that you so despise.

quote:

You do realize that a great many successful businesspersons have a military background and they earned their own way and are damn proud of it.

Well as long as you are playing the "horatio Alger" card how about some validation?

quote:

Our troops are taught resilience, self-worth, uncompromised determination and a greater degree of intestinal fortitude than I see in vast majority of elected officials, and yet you think you need to pamper and hand carry them because you pity them? Am I really supposed to buy that?

No one is asking you to buy the false analogy you are proposing?
