Master has no problems with other people's cats, however, he says that he refuses to own a pet that won't obey him. (And yet, he married me....go figure)

This made me chuckle...in a great way!

I'm man enough to admit that I'm slave to my cats.

Maybe that's why I'm dominant... only room in my life for so many twue masters (and mistresses).

SailingBum -> RE: Do Dominants like cats? (9/25/2012 1:22:00 AM)

I miss my pet rock...

I lost it in a HORRIBLE driveway resurfacing incident....

.... I'm sorry, it's just too painful to talk about.

AVegasMaster -> RE: Do Dominants like cats? (9/25/2012 2:36:25 PM)

I like cats. I have two. I also like dogs and have owned three.

DesFIP -> RE: Do Dominants like cats? (9/25/2012 8:10:27 PM)

I'm a dog person. The Man's more of a cat person simply because they require less work. You can go off for the day leaving the cat food and water and a litter box. Dogs require more time.

He misses his old cat which used to wander around the house looking in the windows and when it found which room he was in, would scratch at it for him to open that window and let him in.

You know GT, I honestly cannot tell if you're being serious or not! [:D]

You need to get you one of those 'dry sense of humour' aka 'serious sarcastic inner voice' filters. It is my default. Nearly everything I read, or type, goes through that filter.

(That said, if your cat is aggressive, you need to deal with that, and that has nothing to do with d/s).

My cats are all docile and loving and friendly. But I consider them dominant because they would never obey an order from me...., unlike a dog. They will only do something when they want to. My cats cannot be bribed by food too, and they choose who like or don't like. One of my cats who hated my x-husband from day one would rather starve than eat if my x-husband fed her. I wanted my x-husband to get into her favour and gave him her feeding duties, and she was practically starving herself and refusing to eat unless I did it. See that is totally dominance over me. I know maybe she will submit if I dragged out starving her for a week, but..., okay, did not have the heart to. 2 or 3 days with refusing to eat, she has no issues. And that's as far I was willing to test it.

More importantly... do cats like dominants?

I have one cat that I got as a kitten who is 13 now and I have always been momma to her.
Her idea of dominance is trying to snuggle with me all the time.
The other one pretty much does her own thing.

However, they both come when I whistle for them, and mostly behave when I wish them to not enter or leave a room or get off a surface...just by making a disapproving sound.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Do Dominants like cats? (9/27/2012 8:35:45 AM)

I do love cats, but I don't have any. My feathered husband is my final companion animal, the cavies stole my soul.

My husband doesn't like them cause ... they're boring he says. I agree, and I'm a slave. I hate cats.

The bolded part. Cats need attention (on their terms). Letting out? Well, yeah, if you're inclined to let them out (mine are strictly indoor, since I don't want them exposed to cat-killing neighbors or other animals. Not to mention the diseases they could be exposed to outdoors, cars, etc).

Yes, they DO demand a portion of your time, as does any living creature you take into your care.

My girls never get outside. I live in the city and it would crush me if something happened to em. Plus they're declawed(You should see what's left of a one time very expensive leather couch)so they can't really defend themselves so letting them out wouldn't be nice.

As for time, the rule of thumb I've always heard is that you have to give twenty minutes loving a day minimum...but the more the merrier

I don't think it applies to just city living. I worked with a guy that lived in the country and had outdoor cats. He told me he had several cats over the years that had been shot by neighbors. There was also another coworker who told me she was trying to poison the cats in her neighborhood. People are nuts, no matter where I live my cats will always be indoors. Sure most cats would love to go outdoors but my job as a responsible pet owner is to keep them safe not give them whatever they want.

Okay off topic enough! I love cats and as cliche as it sounds I find men who love cats very attractive.

Another cat quote, this one is by Julia Child "a house without a cat is like a life without sunshine".

BoardSurfer -> RE: Do Dominants like cats? (10/6/2012 5:01:53 AM)

I like cats. I have two, mother and daughter. Both have been spayed but not declawed. They have pets doors through the garage and can go out anytime they want. They spend most of their time inside though. I think for me it sort of gives me a sense of controlling the wild. I see the "big cat" in them and it's like having a link to nature.

They usually get what they want but thats because I like them. They have been trained fairly well having only one bad habit, they scratch my door frames when I'm not home. I stopped them from doing it while I'm here but they know I can't yell at them when I'm gone.

I'm more of a Dominant by nature but I don't feel I need to "control" my cats. I have had dogs but they are too needy for me. When the cats want attention it's much more relaxed and low key. I think that may be what I like best. My job is stressful and the cats help create a relaxed environment at home (most of the time).

Someone made a comparison between cats and Women and I can see the reasoning. I think there are some commonalities. Especially when it comes to giving them attention, when they want it give it to them, when they don't just let them be...

Hillwilliam -> RE: Do Dominants like cats? (10/6/2012 5:33:41 AM)

I like cats.......if they're prepared properly. I just can't finish a whole one at one sitting so there's the problem of either finding a dining companion or having leftovers.

Not mine. They know who runs the house.
Now they get dominant with each other, but none of em challenges me.
Hell, I have those suckers trained. They know where to go to eat, get pets, snuggles, the lot.
