Multiple selection should be allowed.

There was a time when I thought moderation was too heavy handed, but after stepping back, depersonalizing, and filtering what I had done through the rules, I realized that the rules were just being enforced. I made a few changes to my posting style and gold letters slowed to a trickle.

Just because I see other drivers speeding, doesn't make it right for me to speed. I know the mods don't read every post so I started using the report feature more. For the most part, the mods agreed with my tickets.

Re the option "The problem is that personal attacks are allowed to remain" - does this refer to personal attacks for which one has made a report? I don't think it's fair to complain about something that hasn't been reported.

Fair enough.

I care, I just don't see the major problems that others do. However, so many people have had problems that it makes me wonder if I'm missing something. I may be beating a dead horse here, but I was curious.

Yes, that's what I meant. I'll see if I can edit the poll.

ETA: Okay, I edited it. My apologies to the one person who had already voted on that option.

Fast reply

Being able to research when and why a post was pulled is the reason Alpha has instituted the policies that us moderators must log these. It allows for review and research. Facts always seem to be different than perception when most go on hear say, while the moderators can see the facts.

Perceptions will always be what they are, but I applaud Alpha in her diligence to continue board policy based on fact, and not on inaccurate perceptions.

Thank you all for your input and being a part of CollarMe,
Gamma

P.S. The statement above is the personal opinion of this moderator and is not official forum policy.

I have weighed in. As to LP's statements about being off topic, I regret she has that opinion, but I don't for the life of me know why. In the last week, ONLY 7 posts(not including P & R) from ALL USERS have been pulled for being off topic, and NONE were thread drift, and this is NOT thread drift. This is very germaine to the topic of the thread. As I said in another post, I would address thread drift, the Collarme team in all the different departments are putting in their opinions. Also, the last post that LP had personally pulled for being off topic was MARCH 22(over 6 months ago).I know, we checked, because it really floored me that she is stating a problem with posts being pulled due to thread drift or Off Topic, especially since she has not had any personally pulled over 6 months, and also in light of how much she has been involved personally with the site in the past.

Gamma and Alpha addressed perception vs reality recently:

Yes, they did, and it seems as though that offering from them is perhaps somewhat inaccurate going by some of the responses to that post in various threads. I don't keep copies of everything that has disappeared on my own side in recent history, or from other posters, all I have to go on is my perception, and it does not match what the official answer that was given out said. That's just me. I could surely be wrong, but it seems as though I'm not the only one wondering how the official answer is so different than the consensus. That many people are on a bandwagon or pointing fingers...? I don't think that's the answer. I don't think posters are on a witch hunt, I don't think that they're getting upset over nothing and it's a tempest in a teapot, and I also don't think things are represented accurately in that particular posting from the mods.

Do I care so very much? Not too much. This isn't a crusade for me. I've given an objective answer, as objective as I can make it anyway, and there seems to be some major unrest over discerning what the 'rules' are and how they are handled since the lines on them seem fluid. What I do feel at times is disinterest, it's not holding my interest as much to be here. The last couple of days my interest has picked up some as it seems like the moderating is a bit less heavy handed. I also feel frustration as I don't like not knowing where things stand, but finding out afterwards that there was some line there that wasn't apparent all this time and suddenly made an appearance.

I didn't fill out the poll, the problem is you
can't lump all the mods/admins in the same
boat, some times from my point of view the
left hand dosen't know what the right hand
is doing.
Some are doing a great job, some just think
they are.

I think that by and large the mods do a fucking fantastic job.

Yes there are times when I feel that something should be moderated when it isn't, and others when I feel that something has been moderated that shouldn't be... but since I'm not the person giving up my time to do what is on one hand a vital job and on the other a shitty one, I'm inclined to shut the fuck up.

Only one thing... if I were king of the world, I'd only ever actually remove posts if something illegal has been said in them.

In my opinion, there have been a few proper sea-going fuck wads who've managed to last far longer than they needed to because their raving bollocks had been deleted, leaving a very very unrepresentative record of their assholishness.

I'd propose that if a post is encountered that would be removed under the current rules, the rule should be that it stays in place, and the offender given a chance to make an apology on the same thread, or be banned. That would get rid of some of the real tosspots.

I see Off Topic and Thread Drift as two related issues that appear to have been blown way out of proportion, and fluid rules as a third issue.

One time I got a letter for something that wasn't spelled out in the TOS, but upon reflection, I should have known better. I am always safe when I stick to "I" statements.

LadyHib,since it is well known you are friends with Mod21 and you seem to dislike the current Mods,I have to wonder about this mysterious bunch of Team21 Mods that Mod21 alluded to a few months ago and that show up on a search for VideoAdmin.I have to wonder exactly what Team21 is doing for the site...or to it.

Alpha has stated the posts pulled for being off topic doesn't quite match the amount of threads complaining about moderation. And remember,Alpha said for being off topic...not pulled for personal attacks or quoting other posters that had went off topic.Like I have stated before,if the Mods were really evil and trying to stiffle free speak on the boards would they keep allowing all these Mod bashing threads to stay and all the ones that are complaining to not be [Awaiting Approval]? Spin indeed.

i think it's great that people give up their time to moderate sites. however, as i've said before, they could make their job alot easier. if it isn't a virtual fist fight, or illegal then leave it be.

some people really do deserve the snarkie comments they get, but instead they get all butt hurt about it, and whine to the mods. if you come on a site and make a stupid remark expect sarcasm for it just as you would in the real world. for some strange reason people come online and expect to be treated differently than they would be in the real world.

Unless you think she was wasn't telling the truth, which, I'm sure, some people do.

I don't have a dog in this fight. I'm not trying to suggest anything or influence anyone. I think moderation is fair. I've pretty much always thought that. However, there have been a lot of comments about this recently. I was curious to see the breakdown of people's opinions on an anonymous poll.
