The worst ever moment of my sense of humour causing trouble. Riding horses in November in Iowa, with a group of friends.....out through the woods and so forthish. We were crossing a creek when a horse misstepped and both horse and rider went down, under water. Cold water. Horse pops back up, then rider. Rider's hair is hanging in her face, glasses askew. Everyone is asking if she is okay. (cuz it coulda been a real bad situation) I was behind her when it happened and from where I sat, it looked bad. Like smash that little woman into the creek bed by a half ton animal bad. Well, she is sitting there, wet and bedraggled, glasses crooked, hair dripping in her face. "I'm fine!" she says and jumps up. Now keep in mind this woman is 20ish years older than I am. Bible school teacher type. Always all tidy and put together. After the shock of scare that she was badly hurt, then the vision of her sitting then standing there in that creek looking like something the cat drug in, then the realization she was okay after all of that......I lost it. Now, I did manage to back my horse up and behind a tree, hiding the fact that I was bent over my horse, tears running down my face, nearly suffocating to hide my laughter. Then her fucking teenage son and husband saw me and busted on me. They started laughing because I was laughing. Needless to say my condition was not at all appreciated by the uptight bible school teacher. I don't think she spoke to me for weeks.

Sooooooooo, whatever the hell that has to do with anything. right there with you on that one LaT another here who just doesn't get what is funny about it, or any film similar. but your friend in the creek, yep i'd have laughed too once i knew she was ok. i know i can say that because my old stallion, and i had a horrid swimming accident that resulted in me retiring him from the show ring as my Horse of the Year show horse. we fell in the water, and rather than smash my knee to bits he ripped his mouth very badly with the bit. it was an either or situation, and i could do nothing except encourage him to get up only knowing he'd smash my knee if he did. i didn't know his reluctance came from the fact that if he saved my knee he'd rip up his mouth. all i had to show was a horseshoe bruise on the inside of my knee that actually happened as he tested getting up a couple of times. when he did get up he put no pressure on my knee at all. i was exceptionally lucky, and forever greatful to him for what he did. it was a very horrid accident, but in the end we both ended up being ok. he just couldn't be ridden by heavy hands again because of the scar tissue in his mouth. so i did the right thing and retired him rather than take the risk. all of my family were well aware of just how bad things had been, and what he meant to me. however, when i was thirty my SIL made me a cake with me in the lake, and my stallion on the bank looking down at me dripping wet. it was a very funny, and fabulous cake. she was very worried that i'd find it in very bad taste, but i thought it was wonderful! needles

About a week ago Master and I were out hiking and somehow I tripped after only being on the trail for oh, I dunno...a minute? I tripped head first, splat down on the ground. At first Master was a little worried and I had to sit down to regain my composure and because I was a little dizzy. Anyhow, I was fine..just dirty and a few scratches. But after that, yeah...Master was having a ball at my expense the rest of the day. [8D] ppfftt.

Okay.... Littlwonder, are you related to Holly, perchance? [;)] I am very strongly conditioned against falling, and for me fall = injury for some reason... but once I was trying to get out of the back seat of my dad's Mustang and somehow the front seatbelt attacked me and I landed right on my butt in the parking lot!! OH!! Coming home from the ER with my leg all splinted, and HOPPING up the very tall two steps into the house, I fell over sideways RIGHT on to my crutch. It was a total keystone kops moment. I laughed hysterically, my parents said I wasn't taking this seriously enough. COME ON PEOPLE!! Most accidents occur at home!! Left the COOLEST bruises on my thigh in the pattern of the crutch.

My favorite fall: I was adjusting my stirrups. So, I had my right leg up in front of the flap and my left foot out of the stirrup. Snow slid off the roof of the riding arena and startled my mare. She went sideways, right out from under me and I landed in the dirt sitting perfectly on my bum. It was funnier than all get out.

One of the funniest horse falls I have ever had involved Generic Dude freaking out. Mo, my youngest horse, is a bit of a freak. Basically harmless for a very experienced rider but not a horse for a relaxing stroll....EVER. When I was first working with him, I wanted to take him for a spin out into the field. I was having issues with getting him to stand still while I climbed aboard. So I asked Generic Dude to please hold Mo's head for me. I wasn't careful enough and my right foot accidentally brushed Mo's butt, he jumped forward, scaring the shit out of G.D. who let go to jump back. I sat down.......right on the ground behind Mo's back feet. That was the last time I asked G.D. for horse training assistance.

Sadly, I don't even remember. It is possible. Horse poo is such a constant part of my life I don't even much notice it anymore.

LaT, I've had a few silly ones before and after (nearly always my fault), but my best, and least pleasant, horse fall (tho' technically I don't think it can be called a fall) was on Belmont Racetrack in '75. While in the saddle getting ready to warm up a TB that had just arrived from FL, he started acting flakey. Instinct had me drop the irons, and I gently urged him on with light leg. Like a shot, and without warning, he reared up and flipped completely over backwards, crushing me beneath him. It was SOOOOO bloody fast, there was no time to react or dismount, and centrifugal force kept me in the saddle. So, there I am, flat out on my back with my knees up to my shoulders, with him (1200 lbs.) still between my legs, and flat out on his back on top of me with all four flailing in the air. Naturally, there were a few snaps, crackles and pops (multiple pelvic breaks), tho' at the moment I didn't realize they meant bone breaks. The horse managed to roll himself off me, upright himself, and went hell bent back to the barn. My girlfriend saw the whole thing, and the first thing that came to mind was to advise her to get back to the barn and let them know I'm alright, 'cause on the track a riderless horse stirs things up, and I didn't want anyone to worry. The beauty of accidents is one usually doesn't feel any pain right away, so I, like a fool, told her I'd be right behind her, and that as soon as I caught my breath (Lawd knows it sure had been knocked out of me), I'd get up and follow. I tried, I really did, but the legs and pelvis just wouldn't work! I started laughing pretty hard, 'cause it seemed so ridiculous not being able to get up and walk when there wasn't a lick of pain. Thank heavens racetracks ALWAYS have an ambulance on watch and ready to go during workouts. Before they even got me on the stretcher, the pain kicked in bigtime! They whisked me right off to the hospital. Dontcha know I've had neck, pelvis and legs issues ever since. Can't imagine why! Actually I was pretty damned lucky. Most riders are killed in that kind of accident.
