Over the years I've spoken to many women in situations like yours behind the scenes and it's my consensus that those sincerely seeking this kind of arrangement are the exception not the norm. Most women are not wired for this brand of relating nor do they take comfort in the idea of entering a relationship that's already been established with another woman in the picture. Some can fathom it if they're first and will be the alpha female so to speak, but the secondary role is a hard one for most to swallow including those that publicly acknowledge their never-ending bliss in these arrangements.
I don't view the opposition as a bad thing. It would be foolhardy of you to entertain a situation where the other party is contemplating your removal. On the other hand, you must be realistic about the likelihood of playing intermediary as is often the case and your willingness to assume that role long term. I don't feel the forums shine light on the nuances that come up and the emotional issues that many hide that they're willing to disclose privately. I understand your willingness to proceed at the behest of your partner, though I don't believe you should do so blindly. It would probably be advantageous for you to speak to individuals that have successfully made this work.
Lastly, your weight will not deter a woman that wants to be with your partner. Do you understand? She will make it work for him because she desires him and you're a part of that connection.
