I think we got the message,  what I think we missed was the point.  Unless you have an online relationship your feeling touchy about.

And you need not worry about anyone avoiding you, if LA has something to say she'll say it.  I may not personally always agree with her opinions but you will find she generally gives good information and is more often than not very helpful to those with questions and I respect her for that.

I spend a couple of hours on here over the course of the day, except on weekends when I generally have alot less time. I am currently recovering from surgery and have to take frequent breaks during the day. I'm one of those people who has a hard time sitting down for very long though and have to stay busy, so I stay logged in sometimes and check back and forth throughout the day. I have to have another major surgery in September so I guess that I will have this much free time for another 6 months at least....or that is what they are telling me for right now. I've developed lots of other hobbies in my down time though that have nothing to do with the computer.

I'm also one of those who stays invisible on the user list. Has nothing to do with cagey. One simple reason. When I discovered you could do that it immediately  cut out 90% of the one liner emails....you know the ones that just say "Good Morning" or "Hello" and go on to them wanting to have a one liner chat conversation through your email. I still get a few of them, every time I check in on the other side of the site it will generate a few, but I don't check in over there very often.

I truly wasnt talking about LA - and I truly have no care for your impression of her.  There  are good people here and ther are intollerant gits.  I have noticed that the regs here are mainly intolerant gits to newbies.. especially if they are online, and the regs want to boost their superiority complex about being real, by spending all their so called 'real' time online bashing them.

Does it bother me?  Nope.. not in the slightest - because I am happy and secure where I am - but I have seen other newbies duck for cover with the reception they get from the so called experienced ones.

Personally, I generally prefer to read through threads that are at least somewhat helpful, inspirational, or educational (Or at least amusing!).  This one falls into the 'none of the above' category as far as I can tell.  Does it really matter how much time any one person spends on here?  In most cases we don't know anything about anyone else's real life anyway, so assuming things is rather pointless.  Every forum has know-it-alls, boasters, jackasses, moderators, peacemakers, mentors, comedians, and nice guys.  Most people with experience on forums know that.  Best thing to do is just ignore those you can't stand reading and enjoy those you do.  Complaining about it isn't going to help anything at all.

I'm still relatively new myself, but I've had very little in the 'bashing' department.  Probably because I only take offense at a direct assault, and I typically don't do anything that stirs those up.  If those with working RL situations want to offer advise, that's fine.  But this is a forum, so they can't shove anything down any newbie's throat if the newbie has enough brains to realize that they don't have to take anything they don't want.  Ignorance is one thing.  You can come in completely ignorant about BDSM (actually, most people do at some point or other) and if you're polite and actually learn, most people will be nice to you.  An obnoxious attitude or rudeness is something else.  If you poke a wasp nest with a stick, expect to end up stung.  If there is someone who is acting irrationally rabid (or is that rabidly irrational? )... well, there's always the block button.

Just my 2 cents.  You can take or leave them as desired.

I'm lucky that my job allows me to hang online a lot while I do stuff.  And I've been online at home in the evenings more because I'm "busy getting ready to move"

I'm sure that gives the appearance that I have no life.

But my LJ gives a lot of info for people who want to know what I do for offline fun.

And, not to sound like I'm trying to prove stuff, but I can give you contact phone numbers of people who have met me pretty much up and down the entire East coast.  I've also been the Chair of the board for the local bdsm group, BESS (celebrating its 5th anniversary this year, woohoo!).  I attend a handful of kinky events per month, from picnics to parties, and am a total convention junkie (though I'm missing Shibaricon, SELF AND Leather Retreat this year...I'll be at BR!)

Sadly, when I move to Texas, there are only a few people I will know tangentally through my other contacts and will have to start rebuilding my connections.  But it will be nice to finally get more of the western bdsm flavor.

Don't judge the ones who type fast and have answered these topics often enough to have a "mental essay" ready to pull out from the file cabinets in their brain and make a response.  Time and experience bears out whether someone has useful and relevant information to share.

Many people don't, I believe.
I enjoy your posts...  If they are about politics, I think you are right on and fun to read and learn from; if however they are about personal relationships, you sound like you need a hug and a spanking.   M

Thanks Playful.  It's good that people find useful stuff here- whether it's from me or not.

And of COURSE Brosco was pointing to me as part of his original post...don't you know the world is all about me and how it can adore me and anyone who does not must be cast asunder?

LA,

you dont need to justify yourself to me...  surely by now you have seen that I was making a point about people that condemn online because they are reallife, but spend so much time online to do that ....  uuummm do you fit that category?

Have any of you noticed that there are a number of people who spend so much time here (and other forums) dishing out advice based on their wonderful offline experiences.  They have 'wonderful' relationships - they say - but spend hours every day in a online forum.  Not only do they respond to every thread, they can even reference every thread that even hinted at the topic.

They are experts on every topic raised, and even if they aren't, they will add a comment to say they have no valid input, but express an opinion anyway.

They have time to repeat their point over and over again in many posts, while others add to the discussion ignoring these poor soles.

You have to wonder if they really have a life.

Brosco

Gee Bosco, Thanks for pointing that out! I wonder how you made the indecent stage in less than three weeks from signing on here? It took me almost 2 months!

I happen to like that others take time to insert past links posted in topics, saves me from searching for them myself.  Many could be logged in all day, due to high speed technology, and since we are not taking up our phone lines anymore with dial up. I am logged in all day on my outlook mail, but that doesn't mean I don't do other things while mail is downloading, at the same time.

Nina

Yes *hangs head in shame* I'm completely a loser wanker wannabe with the current world record time of creating a pretend life online.  It's amazing I have the strength to type with all the energy I put into creating "partners" and "family" and all my cockamamie advice about "communication" and "understanding expectations."

Ah cruel world!!!

Brosco,

As someone who posts a lot and is intolerance of idiots, I thought I roughly fit your profile and thought I would toss in my two cents.

I am single and looking, this is a personals site, need I explain more?  Probably.  If you read my posts, I am very supportive of people asking genuine questions.  I sometimes ask questions back they don't want to think about but I don't just attack newbies for being new.  I do however enjoy poking holes in anyone other than myself who is a pompous ass.  I spend way too much time on here, but most of it is before coffee kicks in in the morning or as a way to unwind before bed.

As for my limited offline experience, you can either see the truth of it in my posts or not.

Now you're just lying to make Bosco happy.
Isn't this the age of Aquarius=all about telling the truth?
I saw Bosco's post asking for people to fess up and account for their time, and I skipped it because Bosco and I will never meet, and I have too many other people I care about and account to.
You know I don't always agree with you, but you are very much apreciated on these boards, and in life.   M

lol, LA  and I wasn't even referencing his original post but his later post when he mentioned your name.  Funny how that one slipped his memory..

The funny part here is we have someone online commenting abut people who are online.  I think we all got his message he kept repeating, but have still yet to get his point.

K

BTW, Your welcome,  no matter whether I agree with you on a topic or not, I know that your intentions are good.  Wheere are you moving in TX?  I spent a lot of time there especially the Dallas area

With all due respect, Bosco Sir.

quote:

wow... i got up to post #85 before it was bash the new guy - that must be somewhat of a record

In one single post, You have managed to bash almost everyone that posts regularly on this site.  You have successfully put many of us on " defense mode ", feeling that for some reason we have to justify and protect our " online " time from You.  I, personally, find this absurd.  But, hey... whatever.

If You really must know, my online time is limited to 24 hours a week, which translates into aboutttt three hours a day, give or take an hour or two where i'm on more one than i am another.  This is a very rigid rule with no room for negotiation in Master's Home.  Since my time has started being monitored, ( which i really do love, btw ) i have grown more and more bored with Yahoo, and spending more of my online time, finding more intellingent and productive "conversation" in the forums.  ( Ok, not *always* more intelligent, but at least far more interesting )

i, for one, have certainly never understood why someone, that has no personal bearing on the lives of anyone on here, has to question the validity of offline relationships and or the time management set forth. Who cares??
