I have nightmares, really disconnected weird ones that do not releate to anything. Sometimes i wnd up dwelling on them trying to work out the whys and where etc.

Sometimes writing them down and making light of them helps so here goes...

The other day i had a nightmare i was being driven into the desert and thrown out of the car, the rest of the dream was desperation to get home.

Now the making light of... i mean a desert, really, closest I have come is a vacation to nevada! i am english, if it was a giant puddle it would be more fitting....

I've done a little dream interpretation...

The desert itself represents a sparse, barren place. Possibly emotionally barren, possibly poverty.

You were thrown from the car, involuntarily. Do you know who threw you? Did you know when being driven out what was to happen, and what were your emotions?

Sweety, I'm gonna guess that you're taking sleeping pills of some sort, among others.

Chantrix (the non smoking pill) I took for about 4 days...you know the drill, all those commercials that tell you it'll help you quit smoking and if you take this drug your symptoms could be "loss of sleep, curiousness, wanting to kill someone, panic, ability to drive while telling a cop to go fuck himself, even while still being in your own bed BUT....still waking up with a ticket on your dash...." made me think I'd actually killed someone....after just 4 days!

I was SURE of it when I woke up and I called my doc and said "Bud...this is some fucked up shit! I believe I'll smoke MORE!!!!!".

I even told him how the deal went down....crazy shit!

I sleep horridly, been on every kind of sleeping pill there is (got hooked on a few of them, got off of them)....been on a few new ones lately (apparently the ones I'm on currently he doesn't want me on long term so now we're trying some new shit; "Mirtazapine"...haven't a clue what the fuck this shit is but baby....you wanna sleep...this IS the shit!!!! but....after 3 days I called him up and said..."Hey....we're done with this shit...I've already killed 3 people (in my sleep)....no one knows the details, but when I wake up, I'm like hiding my guns....from me!!!!!".

Be careful of that shit....people that don't sleep well, for whatever reason, need something...not sure if it's exercise (I've read about that shit....heard it requires effort), better food, shitloads of sex (by the way....how far are you from me?)...but not having any (good sleep) and taking drugs (which I do because...sleep is better than no sleep) can be dangerous.

You're your best doctor.

Always.

(WHOAH!!!!!! Did you see that? That was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay fucking trippy.....ok....I'm fine now).....

As DarkSteven said your being drop off in a barren place is just your mind telling your your in a bad place in reality . Once you figure out where you are in reality your dreams will stop . A bad break up work money problems will all do this .

Sorry you've been having bad dreams!

I'm very prone to them and never figured out how to make them stop. My husband will wake me three or four times a week because I'm crying or thrashing around in my sleep. It happens less at the moment but I think that's because I'm not getting enough complete sleep cycles since the baby is up all night.

Some of my dreams I can see clearly why I dreamed then and piece together where all of the images came from but most of the time it's just nonsense. I have the 'usual' nightmares like running for my life, losing all my teeth etc, and also some really gruesome ones that I won't even type out because they are so awful. I don't think they are reflections of things going on in my mind/life because I actually have it pretty easy.

Anyway, sorry you're feeling bad with them. The ones that leave those lingering feelings into the day are the worst.

Dreams are your subconscious' way of dealing with whatever crap is floating around in your brain. They can represent something, sometimes though they just don't.

I usually only remember my dreams when I sick or they were particularly bad. I suffered from terrible, repetitive nightmares as a child.

i know a bit about dreams; that is the reason that i never have nightmares;
if i ever have a nightmare;
i would become lucid immediately
then the lucid dream adventure begins
dreams are mostly symbolic
though there are
prophesy dreams
lucid dreams
nightmares
flying dreams (could be an out of body experience)
dream walking (where one can enter into another person's dreams)
dreams some say are the language of the subconscious
or could ti be dreams are from the super conscience?
where the true self is? freed from the chatter
of the physical brain; free from physical interference
one is immersed into one's true being
not the body which houses the true self
we are no more the body
than we are a car when we get into a car
the body is just an avatar
exploring this alien planet
called earth
dreams are just remembering
a few things about ourselves
that are just plain forgotten.

OP, I get nghtmares a lot as well, a simple way of stopping them Ive found is regressing to childhood comforts that make you feel safe, hence why I still sleep with my 19 year old teddy

Thankful I haven't had a nightmare in years. I used to have a recurring dream about something traumatic that happened in my life. It was like reliving the horror all over again.

That's really the only one I have ever had. I can't even remember dreams unfortunately.

You know those dreams you have where you actually kill people?

(Those are actually real).

Amaidiamond-

The quickest way to get to the meaning of dreams is to write down as much detail as you remember as soon as you wake up.

Then write down everything that's happened in the last few days or weeks in your waking life that has concerned you. Examples: stressed about finances, a health issue, a particular relationship issue, family problems, work problems, lack of work problems. Write down as much detail as you can.

Where the wording overlaps is where you will find your personal interpretation. If you get stuck, PM me on the other side and I'll help you work out the interpretation and what message it's trying to convey.

Your dream power is a benign and compassionate entity present for your highest good. Nightmares only occur or recur when we don't pay attention the first time to the message and act on it.

Dreams can also be consciously seeded to provide the heart's answer to the dilemma. When we problem solve while awake we think with our head, so sometimes those solutions don't provide ease to the problem. Solutions from the heart, however, are always the 'right' answer.

Good books about working with your dreams are:
The Dream Game by Ann Faraday
Living Your Dreams by Gayle Delaney

Here's to sweet dreams!

I hope your dreams ease soon. I know they can be very disruptive.

I will sometimes have dreams about family where something is wrong. When I wake up the feeling is so strong that I rarely make past noon till I pick up the phone and makes sure everything is okay. My family is use to me, thank goodness!

I also have dreams that are so vivid, so real, that even by dinner time I can still remember the details.

My worst dreams, and the ones that wake up hubby because I am crying, usually involve my Mom. The dreams are usually totally normal. Think of watching a movie. Then, suddenly, out of nowhere, my mom walks across the screen. There is no interaction with her. She just walks into the frame, and tyen right back out of it.

Now, MDA, before you start analyzing my dream for me, my Mom died 10 1/2 years ago. She fell into a coma before I got to town. I never got a chance to say good bye. To tell her one last time that I loved her. Even after a decade my grief is very unresolved, there has been no closure. I know that. And yes, I am crying right now. My relationship with God is on shaky ground. Even though I know, and truly believe, she is in a better place, I can't forgive God for taking her away.

Oh, dear lady, how I feel for you. I understand, only too well, that depth and length of unresolved grief concerning a Mother. Perhaps your Mother is making cameo appearences in your dreams to contact you, and let you know she loves, has not forgotten you, and is well.

Mine has been dead since '82, and it was an awful ordeal, with a lifetime of unresolved stuff, and not once, no matter how much I prayed for it, have I ever had the good fortune to dream of her. Tho' it may be hard for you to appreciate it at this moment, I am actually quite envious of you.

In the event you feel I may be of service to you in this matter, or simply wish to commiserate, please feel free to PM me.

Best wishes your way.

P.S. If it were me, like a duck on a June Bug, I would hop on Mistress' generous offer, as I believe it sounds as tho' she knows of which she speaks.

Master remembers a lot of his dreams but they are hilarious. It's like watching an episode of Monty Python. hahahaa
Then there are the other ones that involve me and something painful.

You know - I didn't even remember writing this till i had a PM on the other side, damn brain of mine.

Had another weird one last night, basically i went to a room in my house that i had never seen before and in it I found a cage full of animals, rats and mice, some dead and some dying (it would be rats as i run a home based small animal rescue here in the uk)

I put them into cages by sex in my dream and nursed them till they were better and woke up trying to work out where they had come from... go figure.

LookieNoNookie - actually you raise a very valid points, i dont take sleeping pills but I do take amitriptyline on days when my muscles are really locked which has the side effect of knocking me out, maybe it is connected.

yourdarkdesire - your words ran so true with me, my mum passed 11 years ago and of all the nights, it was the one night in 3 months i had a night away that she passed - i have mom dreams too - so sorry for your loss

Amitriptyline (Elavil) is prescribed as a sleep aide here in Canada, especially for people like me and Lookie who get hooked easily but desperately need the help.

Right there on the list, nightmares. Go ask your doc to change to another tricyclic. You might be okay with that one.

Now that makes sense - I am perscribed it on low dose for its muscle relaxant properties but it does make me sleep for hours
