Amazingly, this link that I am putting on here, a PHYSICIAN run site, says exactly what everyone here has told you. I know....who the hell reads anything online, espcially because doctors run it.

http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/how-to-gain-weight

But hey, I'm just a figment of your imagination. Don't click on the link. It may actually say something useful.

Twinkies just confuse me. I don't trust anything I can nail to a wall that is still food (sort of) a year later. I don't trust beef jerky for the same reason. How are you an americans worst nightmare? My worst nigtmare has to do with sharks. A couple of the folks here know why so I'm wondering how you can be a nightmare.

Because any american I meet I fuck with them as much as possible, in LA I had one group convinced a rainbow was a leprechauns suicide, had a group of them in ireland waiting for four hours to see the 'fairies' who only come out if you have a local with them, and generally rip the piss because it generally goes over the head. Plus when I hear Im irish on my great great great grandads side it annoys me, if your irish your born and raised here, simples. or your parents, maybe your grandparents, but ya have to draw the line somewhere! No matter, the whole world wants to be irish :D and we practically built america during railway times etc

But in short, I fuck with every american I come across cause its too easy! Ah lads, like don;t get me wrong Ive friends in Idaho I love to bits, but they copped on to me and give as good as they get so its fine, but really...too easy!!

You said it is hard to eat anymore. I would suggest making yourself eat another meal a day, plus drinking a litre of milk. As far as exercise I would suggest a change in exercise selection. I would propose squats, deadlifts, a press either bench or over head, and a rowing motion. I would keep the sets and repetitions low, 5 sets of 5the repetitions or lower. You should also try to add weight each time you lift. Try just two days a week in the gym to start with. Running 4km multiple times a week is probably counterproductive, try dropping a couple of runs a week. If you lift and eat as described gaining some weight should really be no problem at all.

hahaha Ever been snipe hunting? I'm guessing you haven't. Or you haven't seen how some english take to it. They tend to get bent at the end of the evening when they find out the joke. Not everyone wants to be irish though, calm your fears on that one. My poppy even went out of his way to tell people he was german rather than irish. Most americans have all this guilt bs dropped on them if they don't say they came from someplace else. Personally...I was born here so I just say I'm from here. Don't really give two rats arses for where all the rest of the family came from. You want to have real fun some time....play pool with south africans.

Sorry, that drifted a little. Eat peanut butter before you go to bed. And green.....smoke it. Weight will come not far behind.

I would suggest starting with just the bar for all the lifts. The weight goes up quite quickly when you add a kilo or two to the bar each time you go to the gym. If you could find a gym that had a womens training bar that would be even better.

Hello kinksters,

just a little problem in which hopefully some athletes here can help me with.

I used to weigh 200 lbs, I'm now 108/106 lbs depending. In the past 6 months Ive lost approx 35lbs due to losing 2 members of my family, the stress is still there and the weight is still declining, is there anything I can do to stop this? As its muscle being lost as of present.

My daily intake is around 1500 cals + 4k run and yoga etc,

I am sorry for your losses.

Go to a grief support group.
It is not at all the same as counseling and can be very helpful.

Are you on any medications?
Some such as topamax have weight-loss as a side effect.

You should see your regular doctor and get a good regular checkup.
Unexplained weight loss can be caused by a variety of conditions and illnesses.
The stress of losing people may have had other effects on your health that you are unaware of and a thorough check up is the only way to rule those out...losing 35 pounds in 6 months is about twice as fast as what is suggested for "healthy weight loss".

For most people 1500 calories will cause weight loss, even without the addition of regular exercise.
So, up your caloric intake.
It is simple math: if you are taking in less calories than you are burning, weight loss will follow.
So either you are consuming less than the 1500 calories you have stated or you have a health issue you are unaware of.

But here's the thing: just about every suggestion you have gotten is being met with reasons it can't or won't work.
Your mindset is causing you to be painted into a corner with all the mental roadblocks you are putting up.
You might want to rethink your position on seeing a therapist.
One or even 2 idiotic counselors does not mean they all are.

Ah! Correction it all weighs the same, a pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat, there both a pound, muscle is denser :D i still remember my biology lessons! No no argue away, im looking to build up my muscle mass, not in a bulky crazy way, nicely defined with enough strength to support it, i have maybe an inch of body fat on my hips and thighs looking to reduce that, define my stomach more and define my arms increase upper body strength :) flexibility will have to be there too for weights but thats grand

Missimortalpain the reasoning behind starting with just the bar is kind of simple. First the ts is most likly very week especially in the presses. Second it allows the trainee to learn weight that is submaximal. Third if the trainee trains two times a week adding a kilogram or two to the bar each time the weight will add up very quickly. Most beginner strength training programs recommend double that increase. Those programs are mostly intended for teenage males, so I don't suggested a slower progression. Size, mass, and strength can be different. The program as outlined should maximize strength, but a weight gain and an increase in size should be seen. Often times 10-15 repetitions is advised this is should maximize sarcoplasmic hypertrophy will also increaseing strength as a side effect. A side effect of the program I lined out is measureable, definable achievement, instead of I want to look good naked program that is very subjective. I don't want an arguement either just kind of bored and find the topic very interesting.

*snort* Okay its late and you caught me the grammer thing. You are right about what they weigh but I was thinking about the actual size. You might have to shoot me unless I can get my brain to be awake again ha. You want flexible but strong and still slim.....correct? If that is right I wouldn't suggest getting to far into weights (back to that conversation about the bar) You might want to stick more with machines as they are better at keeping things are the fit but less bulk side of things.

I can understand your reasoning, MrLewis, and I'm willing to admit that part of the reason I wouldn't tell a reasonably healthy person to start with just the bar is because it screams "wimp" to me. But I tend to not want to do things the easy way even when it comes to starting. If I can't feel weight I tend to think nothing is happening and something about the Op's temperment said to me that she might feel the same way. Of course I didn't take into thought how much she could lift to begin with and if she would consider the bar "heavy"
