Well, first off, DON'T SLAM PEOPLE FOR BEING MINDFUL OF PERSONAL SAFETY. I can think of far better (and less humiliating ways) of getting My name in the news than to be one of those "what the hell was she THINKING?" type women who gets attacked/disappears after meeting an online "friend" and leaves family and friends to mourn (and the same goes for you boys who don't take precautions). Thanks, but I'll stick with meeting DURING THE DAY at a large Mall, the best place really, since there is something for most everyone there. You can spend the day hanging out, have a meal or two at the restaurants, and get to know each other's vanilla interests. Malls usually have security (an added bonus) if the person you meet turns out to be a stalker like the one OsideGirl met. If you want to be SUPER careful I suppose you can always get a couple friends to wander about "separately" but within sight to keep an eye on things. ...and a note in response to someone who said the person they met helps people so they felt safe...I once ALMOST met someone like that, a gym Personal Trainer whom I'd met on Myspace, and known online for over a year. I was looking for a personal trainer to help with some fitness issues after losing a ton of weight. He was into poetry, against violence, specialized in anger management for men, he helped abused women, he even had counseled a few women away from abusive relationships, etc...so he of all people should be SAFE, right? A week before I was to go meet him for My first workout session I got a message from another woman on his friends list, it was a warning urging anyone on his friend's list to "look at this Link"....I thought she was WHACKO, a jealous GF perhaps? But I looked at the link anyway....well, Niiiice...it was a local newspaper's website, the link was to an article about his arrest (complete with his mugshot--yep, that was him alright!). He had met another woman he'd been online friends with and had attempted to STAB her several times, she managed to fend him off, escaped and ran across the street to a store for help. My point being, SUCCESSFUL PREDATORS *WANT* YOU TO FEEL SAFE. It's up to YOU to actually BE safe.
