So I'm reading a little coverage of the President's campaign efforts in Iowa, and I came across the most remarkable quote.

He was talking about the immigration reform he was supposed to get taken care of his first year in office, and is reported to have said, "Republicans will have learned their lesson," and would go along.

It's right in line with his answer in the first debate, that his way to work across the aisle was going to be to say "no."

Sorry, but if the President squeaks through to a victory, the last thing conservatives are going to do is suddenly decide he was right all along. The same electorate that puts him there will also be sending a Republican controlled house to carry the purse, and their mandate will be just as strong as his, if not much stronger.

Unless he figures, "more flexible after the election," also applies to the Constitutional limits on his authority.

Partisan gridlock is only going to get worse in those circumstances. Do you believe a second-term Obama will come up with any answer at all to the problem?

Of course, Tazzy, but while the outcome of the Presidential race is still up in the air, the House is a lot easier to call.

If you wish though, we can add a consolation question of whether the President would be any more effective with single party control, a second time around. But it ain't gonna happen.

If I`m not mistaken....Mitt claims he`ll be able to work better with congress.......

Perhaps.....in dismantling the social safety net or the wall of separation between church and state....

Folks don`t want the con-nutters and their mad social experimentations.

They just want competent government that does was it`s supposed to and stay out of our private lives.

This is why congress` numbers are single digit and the President are at over 50%

No, and frankly, Im not up on all the seats changing in Congress, not as much as I should be. I wasnt referring to the power shift, which I doubt will be much of one. But more along the lines of actual members changing, even if the R or D still holds the count.

Yes, I'm sure they have. Unfortunately for him, the lesson they've learned is that all they have to do is tell him to stick it, and he'll eventually bend over and cave in. It's a formula that's worked pretty well for them for the last 4 years.

It'll be Bush's fault somehow.

Not much point in that one, Tazzy, unless someone is getting paid to do it. Most seats are safely gerrymandered. My Congressman is being challenged by an independent with no experience at any level of government. I spent some time talking with the guy about local issues that he had no clue on, before signing his petition to get on the ballot, but he has as much chance as Gary Johnson, of getting anywhere.

Watch the trends, for where the House will be, and you'll do just as well. In a cycle this tight, you aren't going to find the momentum needed to shift more than a few seats.

Yep. Couldn't possibly be anything from the last four years.

I kinda liked when the dems stopped the cons from destroying SS and Medicare.......

In those cases....most Americans did NOT want "bi-partisanship"....

The lesson the President is talking about is the shellacking republicans are going to get from Hispanic voters.

Notice he says "will have learned"

Exactly

Above the hilarious aspect of your saying this, Owner59, it's also illustrative of how Mitt Romney has proposed working across the aisle. We can completely agree on this. Now how do we get there?

It sure doesn't happen by the methodology of denial our President is proposing.

If the President loses a week from Tuesday, Owner59, this sort of crap will be a good piece of why (well, that and the economy ).

Here's an opportunity for a discussion, and exchange of ideas, but you offer schoolyard crap.

Yes. I was a speech and debate guy in HS and college, and I spent many a Saturday judging HS debate for $15 bucks a round in the starving student years.

Your link is more pettiness and distraction, and if you pulled that in a round I was judging, you would lose.

The President has offered a vision of further failure, if re-elected. Supporters such as yourself might eat it up, but my hope is that the middle is still bright enough to choose the voice of reason and experience in these grown-up matters.

Dueling links? Sure. Here's one that says Romney has the edge.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/2012_elections_electoral_college_map.html

Neither yours or mine makes the slightest suggestion of a wave that is going to reverse the House again.

Then why do you keep mentioning the house races?

WTF cares?

And that`s an old poll.

PA is NOT a tossup.

The President leads there and is widening it.

Romney has bought ZERO ad time buys in the Philly market....tho he keeps saying he will "next week" for weeks now.

Neither Nev. nor Wis does Mitt lead....Scott who?

Even Thopmson is in trouble....

Democrat Widens Lead in Wis. Senate Race

The exact reverse could be true as well. If Romney wins and you have a Dem senate do you imagine anything getting done at all? The repeal of Obamacare has to run through the Senate.......now a cynic would say that the Republican party has already made that calculation and knows they can run as hard as they want to against Obamacare with the knowledge that it will never actually be repealed or changed in any manner.  Additionally, having secured re-election what is the impetus that would spur the President to work out a deal on sequestration? There is no good reason that he wouldn't let the Republicans in the house just hang out to dry on that. They, therefore, will have to come to him.......Will be quite interesting

I agree... seats wont shirt.... the names may change. As in will enough of the Tea Party crew be out on their ears to make any difference.

That would be the good of the country, DYB. Thanks for being honest enough to admit that doesn't factor into the President's priorities list.
