And so are cons ...as we`ve witnessed here....vincent.

That's sad, Vince. The differences between the explicit and implicit test results especially so.

Yeah, I agree, Rich. Big variance for the self-identified Democrats. I guess you can look at it in two different ways. The Democrats are in denial (the glass is half empty) or the cultural absorption of racism is really freakin difficult to shake off but they are trying (the glass is half filled)

How about Florida and their racially based education goals?

http://tampa.cbslocal.com/2012/10/12/florida-passes-plan-for-racially-based-academic-goals/

"90 percent of Asian students, 88 percent of white students, 81 percent of Hispanics and 74 percent of black students to be reading at or above grade level. For math, the goals are 92 percent of Asian kids to be proficient, whites at 86 percent, Hispanics at 80 percent and blacks at 74 percent."

So based on the color of skin or DNA, we just cannot expect some students to do as well?

I didn't read the link, Aylee, but my guess from long experience in education is different goals from different starting points adjusted for socio-economic identifiers. I would assume they select out ESL kids altogether. If there still are ESL kids. Been awhile since I was in the building.

Well what do you expect? Obama has made everything a racial issue and intervened numerous times in incidents that should have been handled by local law enforcement. Instead he tried to use every incident for political gain. i believe it has backfired him on though. You seem to forget that automatically taking the black person's side without due process of law is racist too.

It's too bad someone like Allen West wasn't our first President. You would have seen half of redneck America start thinking, 'wow, some black politicians have more common sense than white politicians do.'

That is not unique to Americans, Mike. Dehumanization and presumed inferiority are the modus operendi inherent to prejudice the world over, i think, whether aimed at indigenous people in South America and Australia, or the dispossessed in the Middle East. It is interesting that words like the ones you mentioned were used in the explicit tests.

Hard times…competition for jobs…crime…these are the reality of 2012. Our national problems and the frustrations they bring increase natural prejudices among all people of all ethnic origins.

Agree, Butch, except I don't know about "natural."

quote:

But keep in mind this is just not a white thing… take that same poll and turn the questions from black to white and ask the black community and you will have , in my opinion, the same prejudices.

True, perhaps, but isn't that like blaming the victims?

quote:

These polls also sometimes ask the wrong questions then apply a correct answer to prejudice. If a relatively small portion of the population is committing the majority of crimes and a question is asking if the group is more violent or not the answer will be true or yes and would be correct. This answer is then used to claim prejudice and that is wrong.

That's not how these polls were structured.

quote:

If the majority of Americans were truly prejudice against blacks then Obama does not get elected the first time let alone the second.

Not everyone voted in 2008, Butch.

quote:

So bottom line… is there prejudice…yes Is it just white against blacks….no Is there work to be done in human rights…yes… but …it is my firm belief that with each generation skin color means less and less.

Okay, but it has needed some forcers . . . Brown v Board, busing, Woolworth sit-ins, Selma bridge, Freedom Riders, Rev ML King Jr, Rosa Parks, All in the Family, Guess Whose Coming for Dinner, the Huxtables, etc.

Generational succession is all we have to look forward to......unless of course some green men show up from another planet, giving the species something else to hate and fear [:)]

p.s. About the words mentioned and the fact they were the same used in the explicit tests....I guess I have one more thing to thank my father for...he gave me a good education into the mind of the racists......lol.

Sure in fuck was...even the rise in racist bullshit will in time turn out to be a good thing.
Bringing this shit out of the dark and into the clear light of day can have nothing save a beneficial effect on the nation as a whole.
Just now, right here you have disabused Butch of a fairly held misconception(or at least I hope you did) when you pointed out to him that not everyone voted.
The misconception that America's struggle with racism is over because Barack Obama resides in the White House is more than common ,it is prevalent.
Hell his election was not the end of our struggle with hate, not at all,but perhaps(to borrow a phrase from Churchill) it was/is the beginning of the end.
This election is actually more telling, the racists who sat it out last time, thinking there was no way their country would ever elect a black man will surely find their way to the polls this year...can we still elect the more qualified candidate, despite his being black ?
Nov. 6th will tell that story(I firmly believe we can and will)

Can you document this? About a year ago the Secret Service claimed there was no increase of threats against this president than against others. Sorry, a quick Google proves me wrong. Threats have been increasing over the last year, but you might be hard pressed to make this a racial case. http://www.therepublic.com/view/story/6dfe3ca12d604954a1cfb19d72b3e99a/NC--DNC-Obama-threats
Might be why the press did not pounce on this.

An admirable sentiment, Butch, but can you honestly say that you think things are improving in that respect after some of the crap we've spent the last four years listening to about the Kenyan?

There's definitely still some pretty serious racism out there. But compared with a generation ago?

Imagine if Barack Obama had run instead of Jimmy Carter. The KKK was still murdering people and blowing up buses over integration in the 70s - they would've burned a cross on the goddamn White House lawn.

I think the latter. I know I've talked to people who intellectually believe everyone is and should be equal but still have a hard time shaking off that last little bit of gut-level unease about people that are different from them. An ex of mine, a white woman, confessed to me once that if she was alone at night and saw a black man she'd get scared. She knew it was BS and felt guilty about it, but couldn't manage to get rid of it.

What I found REALLY interesting was that Republicans were apparently more likely to say racist things than have racist feelings.

If you want to be fair and reasonable about that "unease" wouldn't she be a bit uneasy about any man that she did not know when she was alone at night? I am a great believer in 18 inches of pesonal space. A female who approaches without invitation is not to be trusted, and all sorts of paranoid nonsense. I realize that it is paranoid. I don't trust or welcome much of anyone. It is not a race thing. It is an earned thing.

A woman alone is in the right in this day and, age to be afraid of any Male late at night, regardless of color.

And by the way....republicans are not different. democrats are the same.
It's those pesky libertarians we need worry about.

Jesse Jackson once kinda said the same thing.[8|]

Yachtie -> RE: Racial Prejudice in America Getting Worse (10/28/2012 5:38:39 AM)

fr

Back in 2000 Alan Keyes, a black man, ran on the Republican ticket. Now many Rs did not like his politics (he didn't stand a chance), but I have no recollection of Rs decrying him over his race. The ones who did that were the Ds of color, calling him an uncle Tom, not black enough, a Cracka in disguise. You didn't hear that from conservative blacks. I've mentioned Keyes before and the leftists here said he was bat shit crazy. But, but, how could leftists here say that? Alan Keyes is black, and we all know it's about race and not politics.

So now we have Obama. Rs do not like his politics and the Ds have labeled Rs raciss because, as we all know, the only reason to dislike Obama is his race. Can't be anything else. Surely couldn't be his politics. How could it be? Even Samuel L. Jackson said he voted for Obama due to his being black. It's quite apparent, isn't it?, that Obama was elected due to his race and not his politics. It was about breaking the glass ceiling. This is what the Ds scream from the rooftops. Alan Keyes could have broken it too. But of course it wasn't about his race but his politics.

See, it's not about race at all. It's about politics and the leftist double standard applied in its support. Obama represents the Progressive / Liberal desires of the socialist / commie movement. And such needs to shut down the opposition at all costs. So, what better way than to scream raciss at every opportunity? Pure Alinksy.

I'd posit that the increase in racism posited in the OP is leftist in origin.

From your link:
    quote:

Others in the community agreed with Lopez’s assessment. But the Florida Department of Education said the goals recognize that not every group is starting from the same point and are meant to be ambitious but realistic.

As an example, the percentage of white students scoring at or above grade level (as measured by whether they scored a 3 or higher on the reading FCAT) was 69 percent in 2011-2012, according to the state. For black students, it was 38 percent, and for Hispanics, it was 53 percent.
    /

In the 2011-12 school year:
Whites scored at 69% and their goal is 88% (an increase of 19%)
Hispanics scored 53% and their goal is 80% (a 27% increase)
    Black's scored 38% and their goal is 74% (a 36% increase)

The goals are race-based, but the improvement goals are higher for Hispanics and Blacks than they are for Whites (there was no data showing where Asian students were in 2011-12). Additionally, the testing standards, are the same for all students. It's achievement goals that are being set, and demonstrate the different starting points.

DesideriScuri -> RE: Racial Prejudice in America Getting Worse (10/28/2012 5:59:32 AM)

FR,

I wonder what the results were for all racial prejudices. We can categorize into Black, White, Asian, Hispanic and finger out all of it. If they only look at "Anti-Black" sentiment, that only makes a statement for one race against another. While it's not good, stating "Racial Prejudice in America is Getting Worse," without showing the levels of all possible racial prejudices, it's not necessarily accurate.

ElChupa -> RE: Racial Prejudice in America Getting Worse (10/28/2012 6:01:30 AM)

I thought Dear Leader was supposed to be the guy that magically made everybody love everybody else? One of the big problems is that we have whole classes of people born into thinking they are victims and they stay and act that way their whole lives. Plus, you have a whole political party devoted to encouraging racial, ethnic, and class divisions for their power.
