Imagine that. When you get comprehensive reproductive healthcare, you don't have unplanned pregnancies requiring abortion in the first place.

Must be the education they bring to the conversation.

I had the benefit of planned parenthood participating in my high school sex education, and I am literally a repository for my B/F's cum. Never so much as missed a period.
Maybe that's why they called it PLANNED parenthood in the first place.
Republicans and Right-Wingers in general (making room here for the ones that call themselves Independent) are funny people. They make all this noise about the high cost of a baby growing up (and it IS very costly),but they make up ABSURD legends about the one non-profit entity out there doing the MOST to prevent their poor little wallets from being pinched.
More women should come forward and tell their success stories attributable to PLANNED Parenthood.

FR,

So, without PP, there is no access to contraceptives, huh?

Thanks for demonstrating the typical ignorance of what PLANNED Parenthood does.
Come on Desiderscuri, I know from tour posts you don't take such a simplistic view of things.

and they don't do mammograms like your idiotic Dear LEader keeps insisting. Do you know the creep doesn't even have a drivers license? He is SOOOO out of touch. Well, he might be quite the guy in Kenya or Indonesia.. but he's not American.

At least you are consistent you start all your posts with a lie
"
Planned Parenthood doctors and nurses teach patients about breast care, connect patients to resources to help them get vital biopsies, ultrasounds, and mammograms, and follow up to make sure patients are cared for with the attention they need and deserve."

And you end with one... So what is  the "value added" you bring to society?
I am curious as to why people think by telling hateful whoppers, they are performing some kind of public service.

This is the OP and it seems natural thread drift how things are going, but it is the same thread drift that has derailed other similar topics.

If the OP can at least be addressed along with the thread drift, then it will not get drowned out with the same stuff posted in almost all the other Planned Parenthood topics that have been started over the last several months.

Your assistance in this will be appreciated,
Gamma

And while PP doesnt provide mammograms, they do provide breast exams... which many women would not get without the presence of PP.

Great point about the scope of services. And as to mammograms...
They provide access to a doctor who performs them for free. And they don't take money stating they do. However, the President perhaps generalizes, but it's not a lie. Any woman deemed to need access to a mammogram are referred to the resource free of charge or at a reduced cost.

But...but...

The argument is that even though tax payer money isn't used to fund abortions, by having the tax payer money to pay for other things, they can use private donations for the abortions--without the tax payer money, the private donations would have to be used for general care, administrative costs and they wouldn't have enough to fund any abortions.

Let's be honest....most of these people are against sex education and accessible birth control. They'd rather try to teach abstinence.

And many of the "right to life" groups are calling oral contraceptives, Norplant, Depo-Provera, and IUDs "abortifacient".

It is rather horrifying how much conservatives do that makes abortions happen.

It's amazing how so few women know how to not get pregnant without contraceptives. Maybe we should include this kind of information in our Health classes in grade school....

I dont need the governments money to have an abortion ... I have my own money - and I'll have an abortion any time I fucking want to within legal stats set by Roe -vs- Wade. I'll have them every year until I hit menopause if I want to - put that in your pipe and smoke it. FUCK YOU to those who dont like it. Its my body and I'll do what I want with it.
Dont like it - TOO BAD. And I'll do it for whatever reason I want to - not because of whatever reason youDONT WANT ME TO.

We don't hate it, we just don't think the government should be funding it, especially since the government funds a very small portion of PP's budget, with a shitload of strings attached.

I get sick of hearing like every single woman that needs an abortion is some kind of welfare case. Believe me - more than not can pay for their own abortions and their own birth control. Shit an abortion is pretty damn cheap - three, four hundred bucks? - big deal.

Let's see if we can walk through this one...

farglebargle started this thread. The title is the assertion that Planned Parenthood patients have fewer abortions. His analysis is that women getting comprehensive reproductive care don't have unplanned pregnancies.

To that, I commented, "So, without PP, there is no access to contraceptives, huh?" Since this thread was about abortions and unplanned pregnancies, obviously, I'm talking about contraceptive use solely for pregnancy prevention (as opposed to contraceptives used for non-pregnancy medical conditions; which, btw, I'm not against by any stretch).

You reply that the women who can't afford gyno care without PP, there is no access to pregnancy prevention contraception. My statement points out the fallacy that without PP, women can prevent themselves from getting pregnant.

Very true, there are a lot of uninsured women who get most of their medical needs through PP, they offer low cost medical service covering a wide range of services, abortions are less then 1% of the service they provide
And believe it or not they offer low cost medical service for men also, in such areas as birth control for men, male infertility, testicular cancer and urinary tract infections for men
Have you even visited their web site to see the wide range of services they offer, or do you just trust Fox and believe they only do abortions and the morning after pill

Why would I need to visit their site to see the services they provide?

According to the Wiki, 1/3 of their funding is from the Federal Government. If Federal funding was pulled, would they be able to stay open? Yes. Yes, they would. They might have to scale down their offerings, or increase their fees, but, they'd pull through just fine. Hell, they might find more donors and/or find their current donors would be willing to increase their benevolence.

I'm not for shutting down PP. I understand they offer a plethora of services at a lower cost (it's amazing how it's 2/3 a charity, yet many liberals have hounded me about my stance that charity can, and is a better option for, provide free medical care). Had Federal Funding come as reimbursements for care provided (such as participating in Medicare/Medicaid), I'd have no problem with that, either.

They arent. In fact, unless its a medical necessity, states/federal wont pay for abortions.

Come on Desiderscuri, I know from tour posts you don't take such a simplistic view of things.

The OP gave the simplistic view that PP patients don't have unplanned pregnancies in the first place. So, this whole thread is about PP and pregnancy prevention. This thread is not about all the other services they provide. What services does PP provide that prevents a woman from getting pregnant, if not contraception? Does a mammogram prevent pregnancy?

Which of these things prevents pregnancy?
    quote:

General health care services vary by location. They may include

    anemia testing
    cholesterol screening
    diabetes screening
physical exams, including for employment and sports
    flu vaccines
    help with quitting smoking
    high blood pressure screening
    tetanus vaccines
    thyroid screening

Planned Parenthood health centers also offer sexual and reproductive health services.

I'm sure there are other services provided that aren't pregnancy-prevention related, but we aren't talking about any of those. The OP was specific in stating that PP patients have fewer unplanned pregnancies. Thus, any services that don't prevent pregnancy weren't included in the direction of the thread.

As for Birth control they offer

Gosh abortion is not listed as a form of birth control...has anyone told Fox news

    My Method
Compare Effectiveness of Birth Control Options
Abstinence (Gee even Sarah approves of this )
Birth Control Implant (Implanon and Nexplanon)
    Birth Control Patch (Ortho Evra)
    Birth Control Pills
    Birth Control Shot (Depo-Provera)
    Birth Control Sponge (Today Sponge)
    Birth Control Vaginal Ring (NuvaRing)
    Breastfeeding as Birth Control
    Cervical Cap (FemCap)
    Condom
    Diaphragm
    Female Condom
    Fertility Awareness-Based Methods (FAMs)
    IUD
    Morning-After Pill (Emergency Contraception)
    Outercourse
    Spermicide
    Sterilization for Women
    Vasectomy
    Withdrawal (Pull Out Method)

If PP offers "Withdrawal (Pull Out Method)" as a birth control service, does that mean they send someone out to you to pull him out before he cums?!? [8D]

Now - we know the strings are attached to the abortion part - but Im not so sure about the birth control. Anyways - my point was, that many people can afford their own doctors / medicine for whatever -and not depend on any government funding.

In order to take contraceptives, a woman goes through certain tests. Some contraceptives are contraindicated for people with conditions such as cervical or breast cancer. So those are checked for the presence of cancer.

Many can.. and many cant. Until recently, those that cant were among the college students, for example. Not exactly the "poor" yet not making enough money to afford their own insurance, and were, until recently, no longer covered on mom and dad's plans.
