Yes it was previously scheduled; so what? Why on earth would the Red Cross turn it down? Ohio stuff not good enough? Or is it because it came from the PRIVATE sector? Buckeyes wanting to help people in other states; yeah that's so horrible, how dare Mitt try to bring people together during a disaster; wtf was he thinking?

Go whine to the Red Cross, they are the ones who have long had a policy of not accepting donations of loose can goods.

It is certain Mitt and his staff knew this ahead of time.

I didn't bring up Red Cross - I don't give a flying fuck who distributes what was collected; Point is, it was collected for those in need, and I am sure someone will be able to use the items.

Rmoney specifically claimed the donations were for the Red Cross. You then went ballistic without bothering to get the facts straight.

Not if it's from a Republican (they're Satan's spawn....I may have mentioned that before). I know it says in the Bible that eating the apple (distrusting God) was the first sin....but that's actually a misprint...actually more an omission for space (the original publisher felt Genesis was running a few pages long)....Eve (a Democrat, did as Democrats do and) told Adam to eat the apple....Adam, having no political persuasion of any kind, ate the apple, got his ass kicked by God and said "fuck this...I don't need this shit....next time I vote, I'm voting Republican!", ergo, the first sin was not in fact eating the apple but....becoming a Republican.

My guess is, many of those cans contain apple, or apple like products, proving all the more that Romney, by slightly circuitous routing, is therefore, ergo sum, Satan's spawn.

If you knew so much about our economy you might have realized they just might not have money to give, and been more cognizant of the reality of the employment situation in Dayton, Ohio.

Could it have anything at all to do with the fact that the shipping and handling of such goods make them not worth the trouble...in other words large donations of such goods,on pallets, makes the handling of such loose goods more trouble than they are worth.
Of course that possibility would fly in the face of your preconceived notion of some sort of anti Romney, anti private sector conspiracy...but what the fuck, try just considering it for a bit.

I can't consider that.

Republicans are Satan's spawn and Democrats are perfect.

It kind of negates pretty much everything else anyone could possibly put on the table.

Alrighty then; Let's make sure we tell all the churches and organizations that will be collecting goods in the coming weeks not to; because it's just not worth the time or effort; And after all since the Red Cross doesn't want them, then no one needs them; just give money. Got it.

Getting facts first is helpful.

Romney stood on a chair and spoke for less than five minutes. As throngs of supporters, reporters and TV cameras surrounded him, Romney made note of the items on the tables behind him.

'We're going to box these things up in just a minute and put them on some trucks, and then we're going to send them into, I think it's New Jersey. There's a site we've identified where we can take these goods and distribute them to people who need them,' he said.

To be honest, I think what Romney did was good... the effort was good... the results were not what he had hoped. I just hope he donates the goods where they can be used.

If Romney was just a bit aware of his surroundings he would have known enough to have the food and stuff be collected for people in OHIO.....25% of cuyahoga is without power.Trees down all over....plenty of our own localized flooding...Not sure why he stayed in Dayton when all he had to do was come up I71 and see plenty of people that need a warm meal, warm blanket.

But he already knowss he has lost it badly up here and needs to turn it around in dayton to have a shot at Ohio at all.

What Mitt did was good.

If the Red Cross won't take loose canned goods, there are food pantries, homeless shelters, women's shelters, etc that will be overjoyed to get them.

Good job.

I live in Canada, so I don't have a dog in this fight. Only informed on this mini-issue by what I've read here. But, beyond the belligerent attitude, Liz, your math and logic are not so hot.

You're claiming that 9% unemployment in an area justifies that whole area (ie 100% of the population) not donating or donating less.

Unpack that.

9% are unemployed. Sure, they have a perfectly valid reason to focus their remaining resources to their needs alone. No problem.

But 91% ARE employed. So, presumably, just as well off as they were last year or the year before. Does that mean they HAVE to give? No. But they don't have the legitimate excuse of "I`m out of work`to justify NOT donating.

Still not sure what you think he actually did......would have been much more powerful if he'd have cut a check for about 20 million....But did he bring any canned goods with him?
