Its something the personal trainer I had a free consultation with said I needed when we talked about nutrition.. I can have other things in the meal, but she said those 3 need to be in all meals.

Have you ever had your hemoglobin A1c levels checked to see if you were diabetic or pre-diabetic?

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: i need a fat, a protien and a veggie in each meal. (11/7/2012 12:57:21 PM)

is this a ketogenic diet you're going for?
I did this a few years back and lost 3 stone and I really dont miss the carbs at all.

There are 1000's of recipes for this sort of thing but if you're starting out i'd recommend just learning how to do Fish+Chicken well and in a variety of flavours.

send me a PM if you want some ideas.

regards
She's pre-diabetic/diabetic so she shouldn't go too low on the carbs. South Beach is better than Atkins in that case.

I would recommend dropping bread altogether.

Generally, I do what I call "no white stuff". No flour, sugar, rice, pasta, bread or potatoes.

Keeping carbs moderately low and keeping your blood sugar even will help you stop craving carbs. There's a nasty withdrawal on day 2 or 3 when your body throws a temper tantrum, but after that it gets pretty easy.

Oily fish is always a safe bet.

I'm on a low carb, low fat, zero sugar, and only whole unprocessed foods diet, which I manage to adhere to most of the time.

I agree with the no white things, although you can eat bread, just make it a whole grain flat bread or pita bread. DO try and keep carbs to the minimum, b/c even whole grain carbs are frankly not that good for you.

Since you have quite a bit of extra weight I'd go very easy on the fats, and make sure they're "good" fats.

Sugar is pretty much in everything processed, but you can eliminate a lot of it by reading labels and buying carefully. This type of diet doesn't have to be expensive.

This is a major diet change, and it will help if you can eat every 2-3 hours and never let yourself get too hungry. When I get too hungry is when I eat the wrong things in the wrong quantities.

Shop carefully when you are feeling diet strong so you don't buy bad stuff, then plan your meals and snacks out a day at a time. Also, going w/o carbs will really help you lose weight, but if you're a carb junkie (I am) this is very hard to do. So I do a regular carb day, and then a minimal carb day. It's not that bad then, b/c it's just one day.

Good luck.

I tend to err towards fresh fruit although it has a high sugar content I think (probably wrongly) tha the body processes it better as it isn't processed if that makes sense

Berries and citrus tend to be better. Apples have been bred to have more sugar content than when we were kids. Watermelon is one of the worst on the GI Index.

Thanks Oside I eat loads of apples. Oops.

As an aside since I jacked in management & went back on the spanners I eat abot 3.5k calories a day & have been on a steady weight loss for 2 years now. Feel a shit load better since I got rid of the car & got a bike as well..

Beer is my nemesis though

Unfortunately I hate fish. Only kind I will eat is canned tuna for tuna fish sandwhiches.

The pt wanted me on a very strict diet, no whites, no grains ever not even whole grains no beans no potatoes, no pasta eve. If it was whole grain, no cheese., no bananas cause they're to high sugar for a d to have very much of very little milk or yogurt, et. Etc,

However we have very, very little money for food and so we cant get super restrictive. We need freedoms to get what's cheap, and will feed us many times over, like a 10 pound bag of potatoes for 1.58. As little as we eat potatoes, that bag will last us months.

Grapes, and pineappple I am also told, and to some degree bannanas are bad for shooting sugars up high n fast.

The d nutritionist said 8 ounce or smaller apples are ok. Intact a breakfist that came strait from the d nutritionists mouth was 1 egg half an apple and 1 piece of toast, easy on the butter.

Unfortunately I love grapes and watermellon. Its so easy to eat.

You have a habit of asking for advice, getting some great suggestions, then making excuses for why you can't follow them.

It's up to you, make excuses or make changes. Eating healthy really doesn't cost that much more, especially when you stop buying pricey processed food products and buy real food in it's natural state.

A potato has a GI Index of basically eating straight sugar.

Seriously, it's not that hard or expensive. You just need to learn to shop better. I feed both of us for about $100 a week and that's not even trying very hard.

Buy a Britta filter, drink water instead of soda or soft drinks.
Buy cheese as a block and shred it yourself.
Buy meat in bulk when it's on sale and freeze it.
Use coupons and watch the sales
Buy frozen veggies instead of fresh.
Buy bulk packages of nuts instead of chips or crackers.

Yup. I have a hereditary disease that means that I became insulin resistant when I hit puberty. I've been dealing with these issues for most of my life, but by all means ignore the advice I have to offer.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: i need a fat, a protien and a veggie in each meal. (11/7/2012 2:10:17 PM)

Technically I was only asking if my breakfast fit a fat and a protien n a veggie. The threads kind of wandering, and it had good merits, but I didn't ask for the advice.

And I am trying to buy less crap actually. This last trip there was no junk food. I bought bell peppers. Advocados, baby carrots, 77 cent bag of hot dogs 10 pounds of potatoes, sunny d for daddy for 1. And some bakery bagels that were getting old so they priced them 1.38

I would actually like to move away from packaged precooked for the most part.

Use extra virgin olive oil on bread or toast instead of butter, Tastes scrummy.

I love water and ice tea and crystal light, Daddy is the Soda junky but his Dr finally told him she wants him to cut his intake by 80 percent, so hes finally started honestly trying to go no soda. I'm thinking if he likes club soda, that might be good since re refuses to drink plain unflavored water.

Maybe even a lil juice n the cs with ice.
