My thoughts are that I am thankful you are here posting. That must have been quite the shocker to you. I hope you can rest and get some sleep tonight.

Ditto....second amendment be damned (if it ever changes)...now go and get a few guns that aren't registered. My intentions, exactly, Lookie!I have 3 behind my pillow/mattress and 17 others throughout the house.

Hollow points. Loooove hollow points. Gotta luv 'em, eh?!
There isn't a place in my house where I can't say "mind if I get some clothes on?" that I can't duck, roll and grab a .38 and blow their (%%$#@@%) heads off, starting at their bowels or knee caps....with 17 rounds :).

My impressions.

1) You are a badass. Nah, not really. Remind me not to piss you off. Not to worry, you're safe darlin'. I've only been pissed off enough about 4 times in my life, enough so that someone would know it. I'm just not the angry type.

2) Holy shit. Ya got that right!

3) Never, ever, leave your bedroom if you even suspect something may be amiss in the house. Pick up the gun, your cell phone, lock the door, and call 911 have no cell phone nor bedroom door to lock. Tell them you think there is an intruder in the house I didn't think there was an intruder in the house, remember, I thought it was an animal, and that you are armed. Stay on the phone and in the room until officers force entry. Scream "I have a gun and police are coming." Wait for the cops to come to you-- be prepared to be a bit rousted and roughed up, as they ensure you are the caller and not a threat and secure your gun. There is zero reason to search the house yourself....and about 80 why you shouldn't. The Numero Uno is what prosecutors call "house hunting": if you leave the room, with a gun, expecting to find someone, you have created premeditation: you fully expected to kill someone, upon leaving the room. This doesn't help you (depending on the state). It is not worth saving your life if you're going to spend it in prison.

4) Also, turning on the light is bad tactics: you illuminate yourself, and kill your night vision not if you're looking for an animal that can run around very fast and attack you in the blink of an eye. You know your home better than anyone else; move through it silently in the dark. If you can't adhere to #3, I mean.

5) Please, please accept my gratitude that you are healthy, happy, and whole I do, you're a sweetie, Des. From the few of your posts I've read, you're a quality person, and I would be loathe to think something untoward had befallen you. Awww, now you're making me blush! I think I can safely speak for everyone here: we're very glad you're hale and sound.

Thanks for all your caring and good suggestions. You're a doll.

I don't know.. Do you really think there's less chance of you getting shot when you have a gun pointed directly at them? You're then a much bigger threat to the person in your home, sure. However that just means they'll consider shooting you before you fire one off yourself. The chances are a person won't break into your house looking to kill you for no reason. The gun they have is a deterrent and to give them control or at least a feeling of it, same for yours. But when both parties have one, it's then a huge matter of survival..

Yes. Like you alluded to, most of them are cowards who have the gun to have the upper hand. They aren't prepared to use them. When faced with someone who is, they are more likely to back down and leave if given the chance.

I would buy a gun but need to be trained on them. They horrify me.

I do recommend a can of mace and a stun-gun.

I am certainly delighted this was a happy ending. I am pleased the poster had a gun and good sense to use it.

I'd have shot him. He'll do this again and the next person may not be so fortunate. That's why the police wish you had pulled the trigger. I'm going to sidestep the gun rights discussion as it is a waste of time. I'd love to hear Bob Costas' thoughts on your ordeal.

Myyy thoughts exactly :) Glad you were so level-headed and made it out safe, Dusky!

I'm glad you're okay. But, no, it doesn't change my mind about the gun issue. What I would have done, what I think you should have done, is to stay in your room, lock the door, and call the police.

Pam

Thank you for your good wishes and advice, meta.

Remember, my dear, keep in mind, for all intents and purposes, I thought it was an animal that "squeaked thru'" the cat door. It had happened before, and there was no reason for me to think otherwise. I would never call 911 for an animal break-in, and would be the laughing stock all over town (and in my own head) if I did.

Had I a clue it was a human, that would've have been an entirely different story, and your advice would be most apropos.

Do you always go downstairs with a loaded gun when an animal "squeaks thru" the cat flap as there was no reason to think otherwise you say? Sounds like a pretty nervous way to live. I would think about moving or locking my house better

With Mace, chances are you will be caught in the cloud as well. The exception is the gel based pepper spray.

With a stun gun, you have to be within arms reach and you only get one shot at it.

George Carlin said, "Ever notice that the women that are against strippers are women that you wouldn't want to see naked in the first place".

I think this argument fits the gun control issue as well as many others. The people that want gun control are people that don't have guns, and I personally wouldn't trust with a gun in the first place.

Years ago when Dukkais was running for president, they made political hay out of the fact that he didn't want the death penalty for anyone even if his wife was raped and killed. I have to ask anyone that favors gun control, If your loved one is being raped and murdered which would you rather have?

1) a .357 to blow their damn brains out and save your loved one,
2) a cell phone that you can call 911 with and hope that the cop gets there in time to do something.

I recently saw a case in the news where a young couple was car jacked by four men, the couple was taken to a fifth man's house where all five of them Sodomized the man, took him out to the train tracks shot him and then left him on the train tracks for the train to run over. The young woman wasn't as lucky, she was repeatedly violated for three days, they then poured bleach on her and in her in an effort to hide dna, then they broke her neck, and left her to die in a trash can.

Don't you wish someone had had a gun to put these jackals down!

Or females could choose not to make love to males without a conscience and in a couple of generations individuals capable of such atrocities would be bred out of the population.

That takes too long, .45 or .357 is faster!
