We recently finished The Panther as well. Not one of DeMille's best works, IMO. It took too much time getting to the real showdown, and then not near enough showdown. Although I always enjoy the interaction between Cory and Kate.

I've found a new mystery writer by the name of Jon Loomis. His stories are fairly glib (this is not great literature) but for a quick fun read, he's awesome. I really like his descriptions of P'Town, and the 'tall ships.' The tall ships are cross-dressers, evidently Provincetown (Mass) is a haven for alternative lifestyles.

I'm also reading a book called Emotional Awareness, which is a series of discussions between Paul Ekman and the Dalai Lama. It's about overcoming the obstacles to psychological balance and compassion. For those who don't know, Paul Ekman is the leading expert on facial expression, and a professor emeritus (Psychology) at the Univ. of California.

Lastly, I'm reading Geographic Profiling by D. Kim Rossmo, a very content heavy book on the subject.

Perhaps you can see why my fiction reading tends to be 'light?'

I read Emotional Awareness years ago, enjoyed it. That Lama fella is pretty sharp. I also enjoy John Sandford, for light fiction.

I love Sanford and Himself and I are both seriously appreciating 'that fucking Flowers.' Virgil rocks as a stand alone character.

I would like to see more 'How many police officers have *you* shot?' Letty. We both luuuuuuuurve Letty.

Lol at "that fucking flowers" I like him more than Davenport, I think, and totally agree about Letty.

I wonder if he'll do any more Kidd novels?

I'd love to see Letty go up against Kidd and LuEllen. Now that would be a great Sandford.

I found out about the Dalai Lama book while searching for titles by Ekman. I just got done with his Telling Lies, and am looking forward to more by him when they come in at the library.

reading to Youngest and MiddleChild while enjoying it myself: The second Percy Jackson book, named "Im Bann des Zyklopen" in German,

cant wait to get my hands on: the new Dresden Files, "Cold Day", which is pre-ordered and should be here at the end of the month.

I think that "fucking Flowers" guy just might give James Bond a run for his money where the wimmins is concerned! My problem with those books is that I can't reconcile my version of a guy named Virgil (big black guy), with Sandfords (blonde surfer dude type). I actually have to mentally reset everytime I open a Flowers book.

One thing I found really cool was that a the marching band world competition back in July, one of the bands involved was the (get this) Mankato Area 77 Lancers Marching Band! And I had finished a Flowers book only a week before!

Okay,I am going to have to check out these John Sanford books.Always looking for a new author to read,especially one with a list as extensive as his.I'm a voracious reader,so finding a new guy with a long list is a gold mine for me.
I force myself to break it up with some non-fiction...but I can't finish any book without knowing where I am going next,so if he works I'm set for a bit...lol

Actually I don't like Patterson,and this reasoning may seem strange but his 1 and 2 page chapters just drive me crazy.
Bottom line is I am uncomfortable reading him...I know that sounds awfully shallow but that's the thing ,he just doesn't work for me.

I'm not a Patterson fan, either.

For those looking for someone different, may I suggest the author Patricia Highsmith.

She wrote the original 'Strangers on a Train' story which you may remember since Hitchcock turned it into a movie. But she's famous for her Ripley series, the first of which is 'The Talented Mr. Ripley.' This story was made into a movie in 1999, with Matt Damon playing Ripley.
