ORIGINAL: cuckoldmepls Certainly, petitions to secede are ridiculous since they won't be granted, but what most people don't understand is that secession from the federal government is inevideable. The unfunded liabilites are about $50 trillion & it all started when LBJ transferred social security to the general fund & started spending on it. On top of using SS as a piggy bank, they have now borrowed $16 trillion. There is no possible way to fund future liabilities. Even if you took all the money the top 5% have, it wouldn't last but 5 years. It's inevideable that secession must occur since they refuse to balance the budget and declare bankruptcy or limit the size of the federal government & future entitlements. It's absolutely impossible. It's just a question of how fast will it occur. I predict it will happen within the next 4 years & red state Governors & their legislators will begin making preparations to secede together so they can set up a seperate financial system & rewrite the Constitution to where the feds answer to the states & they have no law making ability or taxing ability. Agreed, it is inevitable. Though reasons go beyond economics. In the end it will probably be peaceful for the most part; not civil war redux. It was peaceful the last time, and would have stayed peaceful had they paid their tabs and given back any federal reservations, they didn't and it wasn't. The same thing will be true this time, only we will nuke the south out of existence this time, since they are a pain in the ass and a drag on the economy.
