If you said you were concerned about their kids or for their well being.....I`d call you a liar...

Folks....

This is Bainism at work......take a good company, borrow every cent you can off it`s value, the pick the company clean and drive it purposefully into bankruptsy.......and walk away millionairs....

So don`t let the republicans and predator-cpaitalist brown-nosers pretend that the narrative starts at the point where labor goes on strike and not when the new vulture capitalist owners started "Baining" the company to death years ago.

Marini -> RE: A few Labor Leader, cost 18,500 people their jobs (11/17/2012 9:42:59 AM)

Owner, did you read my post?

I am going to try hard, not to type the same words over and over on the internet.
I am going to start referencing prior posts when trying to discuss issues.

If anyone wants to chat about what I said in post #67,let me know.

I don't think anyone dislikes corporations/and most of what they stand for more than I do.

There IS such a thing as throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

I have talked about this for YEARS/as well as unbridled outsourcing.

I need you to address, what is going to happen to these 18,000 people?
Are they to eat cake?
At what point do we discuss what happens to these people.

What are they supposed to live off of?

Is anyone here going to support those 18,000 people and their families or give them their next job?

I need someone here that SUPPORTS what happened to these people to tell me specifically what they should do NOW.

Hold on a minute sport...

The Company was functioning and under the Federal Bankruptcy rules a CBA was put in place. A CBA mind you that was accepted by 7,000 members of the Teamsters UNION. Had The Bakers not stuck, those 18,500 people would still be employed.

tazzygirl -> RE: A few Labor Leader, cost 18,500 people their jobs (11/17/2012 9:49:54 AM)

Actually, from a few sources I have read, and I will try and find one if you wish, there is an argument that a few companies are poised to come in and take over. Having trained people will be the best way to restart a company.

As far as what they are going to do now, many are eligible for unemployment... but not all. Seems they also had a 401K plan, but the accounts seem to be in question.

Why not the white collars who ran up all the debt??????? Why not bitch they are not giving up any of their money????? Your tread title blames the union, the union is the workers who said no...so yea you are blaming the workers

Because that's not how it works in the corporate world. If a company's sales go south, in Hostess's case, or the company does something illegal and gets fined billions, like a Fortune 500 company I used to work for, the shareholders and upper management will not allow themselves to lose income. Instead, they make up the difference by laying people off, expecting the remaining employees to do 2x the work at 80% the pay, all while raising prices for customers. Everybody has to pay for upper management's mistakes.... except for upper management. [>:]

They are a very large and operating bakery with a workforce. They have inept management and a for shit business plan.  It ain't going to be the same as the local shoe shop going bankrupt.  It is more like Eastern Airlines, Northwest Airlines or many other large companies, they will be parted out to other bakers or to an investment group that will hire a great deal of them back.

tazzygirl -> RE: A few Labor Leader, cost 18,500 people their jobs (11/17/2012 9:57:33 AM)

Thats my thinking. They have the plants, many of them in union states, already tooled for the product.

No one said all, Marini. The employees knew this going into the strike. Even in the eleventh hour, when they gave in and agreed to the companies demands, they were told ... too late. None of this sounds like the owners wanted to work out a deal.

No they won't... and and it will take some time to do sell the assets, then depending on who buys them, roll out the line. Plus, they will lose any seniority they had had AND likely start out at lower wages with less benefits than if they had stayed at Hostess. Plus, many of the lines will disappear all together. Most of their bread line, with the exception of Wonderbread which has its name value, are duplicative of other mass bakery lines and will eliminated all together.

This idea, that some "unknown" company is going to ride in, swoop up Hostess and hire their workers back with higher pay and better benefits is pure fantasy!

Sorry tazzy, I have to disagree with you today.
According to many articles, and there are thousands on the internet, I am also blaming the Unions.
According to this article in the NY Times, as late as September the Bakers Union had the nerve to stop returning phone calls.
NY Times/Hostess turns out the lights forever

tazzy, I am really cutting back on endless links because there are billions of links on the internet and I could spend the rest of my life posting links to message boards.

I have read enough to BLAME both sides , BUT I personally BLAME the unions MORE, as I detailed in Post #67.

I think the workers should have returned back to work last month, and continued negotiations.

These people have been screwed by the Corporations and the Union, and many of these people will suffer.
IN THIS crappy economy being fired is not going to keep the heat on, keep a roof over their heads, nor buy groceries.

Peace

Nothing wrong with this part, however...

Absolutely uncalled for. WTF does that have to do with this thread?!?

I am not going to try to explain humor to you.
If you have come this far in life without understanding humor,or it's lesser cousin sarcasm....well,shit,I can't,and won't even try,to help you.
Basically though ...you agreed with my post....but nit picked over my p.s. ?
What axe are you grinding ?
Do you really, really think I hurt Fats feeling with that twinkie comment ?
Do you think it was a joke about twinkies...or about fats ?

tazzygirl -> RE: A few Labor Leader, cost 18,500 people their jobs (11/17/2012 10:21:51 AM)

Then we must agree to disagree. After giving in for years, the workers finally took a stand and knew where that stand could lead.

You know I believe in protesting, and I am ready for the next revolution.

On the other hand, taking a stand can also end up with you losing everything, and living in the shelter and eating in soup kitchens.

I LOVE taking a stand, I just hope all the employees feel it was worth it, one year from now.
[;)]

I feel that most corporations are evil, greedy, soulless bastards, but I think there were too many damn Unions involved in this Hostess debacle, and at the end of the day, if I were some of those workers that lost my job, I would be ready to also kick some of the Baker Union leaders asses.

Peace

BINGO...we have a winner
I have been called "slave",it never bothers me,lest someone is trying to make a larger point...as in"shut up,you are a slave type and I'm a domme type"
At that point it gets under my skin...otherwise I could give a shit....some folks use the letter u when meaning you,it's all about saving keystrokes.
My little joke there was more about "twinkies" than it was about FDD...and anyone that didn't understand that needs to take remedial humor101.....and really ,really pay attention to the course material, cause basically they are humorless [:D]
