Wait, look here.   Insofar as calling FatDomDaddy Fats, or FDD it is not meant to be denigrating in anyway it is just a nick of his nick to shorten it.   Nobody flips when I get called mnotter or mno or otter or slavemike4u is called mike. or MusicMystery is called MM or tazzygirl is called taz or subrob1967 is called rob.

For fucks sake, he aint telling me not to do it, if he takes umbrage at it, he has my cmail or can give me fuckin hell right here and I will not do it.

I have never seen a picture of the guy, but his nick includes fat, and that is about all that is about, what the fuck does this have to do with an incompetent greedy management, with a fucked up business plan, who is going bankrupt again?

Notice he aint sayin nothin on the subject FOR FUCKS SAKE.

Oh no... slvemike4u has pitched a fit over me calling him slave.

See the above post for an explanation of that.....no need for you to look Fats, you are well aware of my objections...but acting all butt hurt here serves your purpose....lol
You are so dammed predictable.

The problem is the dozen or so iconic names are just that.

Yes, they may be very profitable and yes they are going to continue but there are no NEW jobs and very few old ones coming from the sale of their names and recipes.

First of all, many of the mass bakers already make a "Twinkie" like product. Their own workers will do just fine making new Twinkies too. But a lot of the Hostess line will not survive and even some of the surviving lines will be downgraded and limited.

Some workers will be rehired, months, maybe even a year down the road making former Hostess brands but most will not.

Have you not read "For God, Country And Coca Cola"?
If a lookalike product was enough, most of the world's brand names would have been undercut out of existence long since.

I couldn't resist.
(Annoyingly, most of the comics Hostess adverts I could find were for the fruit pies or cupcakes, not twinkies...)

FatDomDaddy -> RE: A few Labor Leader, cost 18,500 people their jobs (11/17/2012 10:42:56 AM)

It is not about look a likes.

Wonderbread stands on its own but most of the other breads produced by Hostess, have no iconic value nor the consumer loyalty Wonderbread has. Many of those breads are in direct competition with other mass bakery brands and will be eliminated.

Moonhead -> RE: A few Labor Leader, cost 18,500 people their jobs (11/17/2012 10:46:27 AM)

Who's talking about the breads?
I was thinking more of those Hostess products that do have a bit of that iconic thing going on. Nobody gives a flying fuck about wonderbread, or any other processed, HFCS laden pseudobread Hostess churns up. All of the angst about the brand shutting down is over the sweets: twinkies, those vile looking fruit pies, cupcakes and the rest. The stuff that people enjoyed eating as treats when they were kids, basically.

SimplyMichael -> RE: A few Labor Leader, cost 18,500 people their jobs (11/17/2012 10:48:23 AM)

How come republicans dont mind CEO bargaing for more money, often for performance that would get a union baker, fired but, object to bakers negotiating, for more?

And,it was decades of bad management, that caused, the problems that as usual get blamed on,unions.

Moonhead -> RE: A few Labor Leader, cost 18,500 people their jobs (11/17/2012 10:52:35 AM)

Because blaming it on high level management would be admitting that these people don't create wealth and jobs for anybody else, and trickle down theory is horseshit?
I suspect most of the GOP would rather see their daughters raped by gorillas than have to admit that...

Except the 1,000s of workers making and shipping them and who are now out of job you mean?

And what is wrong with that ?
Merely the market at work,no ?
I thought your side believed in an unfettered marketplace wherein these things are allowed to go on all the time ?
Why the false concern here Fats ?
You wouldn't be trying to score political points out of misfortune of others, would you ?
Nah,you're a compassionate conservative.....lol.

I am still waiting on suggestions on what these almost 20,000 people should/will do.

tazzygirl -> RE: A few Labor Leader, cost 18,500 people their jobs (11/17/2012 11:30:49 AM)

I gave them to you. Its the only sure option they have at this moment.

The difference, for me, in all this is that the union members made the decision to take this risk. This isnt a company that came in, made promises to the employees, had them build a platform, then tell them from that platform they were all fired.

I agree tazzy, this is one of the very few cases when I think the workers should have gone against the Union and gone back to work.

They also should have fired their Union reps, gotten new reps and just hammered this crap out.

They had a lot more options BEFORE the doors shut for good, than they do now.

slvemike4u -> RE: A few Labor Leader, cost 18,500 people their jobs (11/17/2012 11:46:05 AM)

I can't disagree more Marini, why should they have done that ?
This company had for shit management, had they done as you suggested how much longer till management once again asked labor to take the hit for them ?

I think it's better for that large a group of people to continue to work, and work even harder with Union reps/Management than to be unemployed in this economy.

Many people are taking a cut in pay, have not had a raise in years, lost hours, etc. these days.

I would rather fight {especially if I needed the job} than be on the street.

AGAIN, easier to fight/negotiate when working.
They have nothing to negotiate now right?
Game over, they provided their point, and the corporation MIGHT be better off.

Who the hell had the most to lose in this scenario?
lol
Management/the corporation will be jim dandy.

Now, many can try to figure out if they can stay in their homes this winter, have any sort of Christmas and turn the heat on.

As always to each their own.

Hillwilliam -> RE: A few Labor Leader, cost 18,500 people their jobs (11/17/2012 12:02:29 PM)

One thing to think about. How do you know that the management was incompetent?
They may have done just what they set out to do which was make a shit pile of money shortselling stock and fuck anyone who gets in the way.

I formerly worked for a company that was bought out by "Vulture Capitalists". I looked them up when things started going wonky and they had bankrupted 8 companies prior to ours. Each time, they slipped away with a high 6 figure/low 7 figure payday.

DaddySatyr -> RE: A few Labor Leader, cost 18,500 people their jobs (11/17/2012 12:04:14 PM)

I agree. I think management is to blame. I think any time money is lost/a profit isn't made it is the fault of the CEO.

Unfortunately, we'll never get Americans to see it that way. They prove it, over and over again (every election cycle).

Peace and comfort,

Michael

slvemike4u -> RE: A few Labor Leader, cost 18,500 people their jobs (11/17/2012 12:07:09 PM)

Dammit...one of my guilty pleasure is a Hostess Chocolate creme filled cupcake...I don't like vanilla,so the twinkie never did work for me.
Anyway,I'm just back from the store, and the Hostess rack is simply gone, not there....lol
I bought a "Little Debbie" box of cupcakes, their version of my Hostess treat......agrrrrrrr,it sucks,it is a definitely inferior product.
Those damm bakers have now,for the worse, affected my cushy life....damm them to hell, damm them all.
